Pokémon the Series

History

Pre-series
Jessie at the Pokémon Nurse School

Jessie's mother, Miyamoto, was a high-ranking Team Rocket agent. When Jessie was around the age of five, Miyamoto left on a mission to the Andes to record the voice of the elusive Pokémon Mew. However, after Miyamoto disappeared, Jessie was put into a foster home which had very little money. There were times when she had no choice but to eat snow because of a lack of food, but she revealed in Snow Way Out! that the "snowgasboard" meals were one of her few happy childhood memories.

In Crossing Paths, it was revealed that she had a crush on a boy she had gone to school with, named Astin, who was leaving to become a Pokémon Coordinator, and who has a current-day counterpart with a similar name. She refused to go with him because she and two friends were training to become pop idols. Unfortunately, while her two friends passed, Jessie's audition didn't go well and her idol dreams were quashed.

Jessie as "Chainer Jessie" when she was part of the bridge bike gang

When she was old enough, she left home to become a Pokémon nurse. However, she was unable to go to a regular nursing school and went to the Pokémon Nurse School, which was intended for Chansey. She was quite skilled at things such as bandaging, and even showed a Chansey how to do it. She quickly became good friends with that Chansey. However, because she was not a Chansey herself, Jessie couldn't do things like use Sing to soothe Pokémon, instead falling asleep herself. Ultimately, she failed to graduate, and on graduation day, she simply packed a bag and left. As she was leaving, Chansey came up to her and offered her her nurses' hat, but Jessie refused to take it. Chansey then broke her egg-shaped pendant she got as proof of graduating in half and gave one half to Jessie so that they would have something to remember each other by. In the episode Ignorance is Blissey, Jessie was reunited with that same Chansey, which had since evolved into a Blissey.

In The School of Hard Knocks, Jessie and James told Meowth that while they were at the Pokémon Trainers' school Pokémon Tech, they both received the lowest scores in the history of the school. The school later brought back bad memories for both Jessie and James.

After this, as revealed in The Bridge Bike Gang, Jessie and James joined a bicycle gang in Sunnytown, where Jessie was known for swinging a chain above her head as she rode her bike, acquiring the nicknames "Big Jess" and "Chainer Jessie".

It was revealed in Spring Fever that she was supposedly a model at one point.

Upon arriving at Littleroot Town's port in Hoenn Alone, Jessie indicated that she had been to the town sometime before and referred to it as "the city whose colors will never change", though she didn't elaborate further. Her past connection to Hoenn was again hinted in All Things Bright and Beautifly!, when Jessie was revealed to have an expired Hoenn Contest Pass.

Sometime before joining Team Rocket, she had several boyfriends, all of whom left her and/or treated her badly. In Xatu the Future, she revealed that she had once worked at a TV station as the weathergirl. In From Cradle to Save, it was revealed that she once was a ninja.

Due to conflicts in canon between Kanto and Johto episodes and the special episode Training Daze, what happened between Jessie and James after the bike gang is unknown. What is known, as shown in the special episode, is that they joined Team Rocket separately and were on initially unfriendly terms after being grouped with Meowth but they quickly made up and became good friends. While Jessie and Cassidy quickly became bitter rivals, she had befriended trainee-hopeful Christopher and inspired him to pursue his ambitions outside of Team Rocket.

Team Rocket member Wendy held a grudge against Jessie for failing to pay for a drink and instead made Wendy pay, but she got her revenge when later and added the charge to Jessie's overall Team Rocket bill.

Pokémon the Series: The Beginning
Jessie and James's first appearance in Pokémon Emergency!

Jessie made her debut in Pokémon Emergency. Alongside James and Meowth, they set their sights on the injured Pokémon in the Viridian Pokémon Center. Sending out their Ekans and Koffing from their Meowth balloon, they quickly overtook the Pokémon Center, which only had Nurse Joy, Ash and Misty inside. Before they could steal any of the Pokémon, however, Ash's Pikachu, who teamed up with many other Pikachu in the Pokémon Center, used an electric attack, causing the entire Pokémon Center to explode. It was here that Team Rocket decided to capture Pikachu, deeming him as an exceptionally powerful Pokémon, and made it their goal to capture him.

In Electric Shock Showdown, after hearing that Pikachu would fight to defend his own honor and Ash's, the trio were inspired to cheer on Pikachu before his rematch against Vermilion Gym Leader Lt. Surge's Raichu.

In Battle Aboard the St. Anne, the Team Rocket trio worked together with other Team Rocket Grunts to steal the Pokémon of all the Trainers on board the S.S. Anne. Out on the open ocean, Team Rocket began taking the Pokémon of everyone by force. Ash led a counterattack against the Rockets, leading to a large battle and many of the members of Team Rocket being blasted off through the side of the ship. Afterwards, the S.S. Anne started taking on water and sunk, trapping Team Rocket, Ash, and his friends underwater. When the two groups met up, they initially fought, but Misty took charge and directed all of them in an emergency escape plan before the ship fell into the depths of the sea floor. They eventually found an exit, with Team Rocket nearly drowning due to having to rely on James's Magikarp to swim them to safety. After getting stranded, Magikarp evolved into Gyarados and sent them all flying with a cyclone made from Dragon Rage.

In The Punchy Pokémon, Jessie entered the P1 Grand Prix after stealing Giant's clothes and Hitmonlee. She used Giant's clothes as a disguise. She did not make it as Hitmonlee lost to Primeape.

Jessie in the Princess Festival

In Princess vs. Princess, Jessie participated in the Princess Festival. She caught a Lickitung beforehand when it was caught stealing stuff from Team Rocket with its tongue, claiming to deal with it later. Jessie competed in the contest of the Princess Festival but was eliminated by Misty despite her Lickitung nearly defeating the entirety of the team that Misty used.

In The Ultimate Test, Jessie decided to take the Pokémon League Admissions Exam to see if she could enter the Indigo Plateau Conference and add that achievement to her résumé. However, during the theory test, she rose from her seat and started to argue with the instructor, which led to her being expelled.

In The Battle Of The Badge, Jessie, James, and Meowth were made the temporary Gym Leaders of the Viridian Gym in Giovanni's place. Having rigged the platforms so that the Trainer feels the pain their Pokémon feels, they battled against Ash. Despite using Giovanni's Pokémon and cheating, they ultimately lost and were sent blasting off.

The Team Rocket trio continued to follow Ash to the Orange Islands, where they were ordered by Giovanni to operate a blimp in an attempt to get rid of them. The three performed their duty as wait staff before realizing no one was piloting the blimp, and because of this it drifted straight into a storm. They then found Ash and friends and started a battle, which tore a hole in the blimp. Meowth attempted to make a parachute from some of the broken fabric, but Jigglypuff landed on top of it and sang a song. Meowth, unable to stay awake, let go of the fabric, causing the trio to fall into the ocean and drift away.

Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver

In Wobbu-Palooza!, she fought the Wobbuffet Festival crashers with her Wobbuffet and single-handedly defeated them. When she, James, and Meowth were leaving the festival, they were caught with stolen food from the festival. Ash and his friends easily defeated them and got the food back.

In The Trouble with Snubbull, Team Rocket first tried using Meowth as bait for a newly evolved Granbull so they could collect a reward from the Granbull's owner, Madame Muchmoney. This failed, and they subsequently used a Meowth-shaped mecha for their next attempt. Through a misunderstanding over Meowth trying to release Granbull from the mecha's tail, Team Rocket were mistakenly assumed to have tricked Madame Muchmoney. When Team Rocket was blasted off following a battle between the mecha and Granbull, Granbull returned home and no longer followed Meowth.

In Control Freak!, she wore an ancient mask and scepter belonging to a queen from a long time ago. Using the items, Jessie possessed some Pokémon that she chose except for Golbat who was apparently unaffected. She was about to get away with the items but Brock's newly evolved Crobat sliced the Dig-a-tron and separated her from the mask and scepter.

In Dues and Don'ts, the Team Rocket trio learned they'd been disbanded from Team Rocket for unpaid dues. However, a Rocket Scout informed them she could get them back in if they prove themselves to her by defeating Ash and his friends. The three begged to borrow her Delibird to help them, which she agreed to. Even with the support, they failed to complete the mission, but were reinstated anyway due to a labor shortage. Their signing bonus helped pay off their bills, but the Rocket Scout informed them Delibird would be following them to make sure it didn't happen again. By Can't Beat the Heat!, Delibird stopped following them, satisfied with the money they earned during the Silver Conference.

Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire
As Jessebella
As Jessadia

Starting in Hoenn, Jessie became a Pokémon Coordinator, entering every Contest that she could. She frequently made it to the battle round, but usually lost there. Although Jessie entered mostly every Contest in Hoenn and Kanto, she lost in all of them, whether it was the first match of the Battle Rounds or the finals.

In the Kanto Contests, Jessie disguised herself as Jessebella (Japanese: ムサぴょん Musa-pyon) wearing a red dress and glasses. Eventually, Ash, Brock, May, and Max found out her true identity in the last Contest.

In A Scare to Remember!, Pikachu developed amnesia after an attack by Team Rocket and their machine. Team Rocket took advantage of this and tricked Pikachu into joining them. Trying to get Pikachu back, Ash jumped on their balloon, and the trio ordered Pikachu to hit Ash with Thunderbolt. This caused them to get blasted off, while Ash and Pikachu fell into a river. As Ash protected him, Pikachu managed to regain his memory and got rid of Team Rocket once again.

During the Kanto Grand Festival, Jessie dressed up as Jessadia (Japanese: プリティ・ムサリン Pretty Musalin) and wore glasses, long white socks, a yellow and orange dress, and had her hair in pigtails. She worked there as an announcer and Lilian Meridian's assistant; Lilian herself said she did not really like Jessadia's style, but recognized her talent.

In Off the Unbeaten Path, Jessie entered Potpourri Island's Pokémon Orienteering with Meowth as her partner Pokémon. The duo had trouble finding the checkpoints and decided to drop out of the competition. They planned on letting James and his Mime Jr. collect the five stamps, thinking James would share the sample of fruit prize with them. To assure James's victory, they dug several pitfall traps throughout the island so as to slow down the other contestants. When James was declared the winner, Jessie was certain she would get to eat some fruits. However, James was more interested in the Pokémon Teamwork Medal and he agreed to donate the fruits after Nurse Joy asked him to, much to Jessie's disappointment.

Jessie's odd Contest style caught the eye of Harley, and they quickly struck up a friendship of sorts during the Mulberry City Contest. Harley was determined to sabotage May's chances of getting her final Ribbon, and he subsequently paired up with Team Rocket, even giving Jessie his Pokémon to borrow for the event. Jessie lost to May in the final round, much to Harley's annoyance. Later, in The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing!, Harley suggested that Jessie should accompany him to Johto to compete in Contests. She refused his offer, admitting that she was already committed to Team Rocket.

In The Ole' Berate and Switch!, following a failed attempt of getting Ash's Pikachu, Jessie separated with James and Meowth, and met up with Butch. Jessie went back with James and Meowth after Team Rocket were caught stealing a load of Poké Balls.

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl

In Two Degrees of Separation!, Giovanni approved the trio's plans to set up Team Rocket in Sinnoh.

As Jessilina

In Mounting a Coordinator Assault!, Jessie disguised herself as Jessilina (Japanese: キャンディ・ムサリーナ Candy Musalina) in order to compete in the Jubilife City Pokémon Contest. When the results were announced in Arrival of a Rival!, it was shown that Jessie's performance had secured her a place in the second round, where she lost to Zoey and her Glameow in the finals. The disguise adopted for the Jubilife Contest was used in every official Pokémon Contest Jessie entered in the Sinnoh region and the Hearthome Collection as well. As Jessilina, she would form an unfriendly rivalry with Dawn throughout the entire Sinnoh Contest circuit.

After rescuing Ash's Aipom from falling off a cliff in Borrowing on Bad Faith!, Jessie managed to persuade Ash to let her borrow Aipom for an informal Pokémon Contest that would be held in a small village as part of a festival. Jessie then decided to practice for the competition, asking Aipom to show off all of her moves. Jessie's training session paid off as she easily advanced to the second round of the Contest, where she faced Dawn and her Pachirisu. During their battle, Jessie used a Contest combination to drop Dawn's points before commanding Aipom to attack Pachirisu with Focus Punch, which caused the Electric-type Pokémon to faint, thereby eliminating Dawn from the Contest and giving Jessie her first Contest victory.

The trio were hired by Team Galactic to steal the Adamant Orb from the Eterna Historical Museum in A Secret Sphere of Influence!.  Team Rocket successfully made the theft, framing Nando in the process, but ultimately failed to get away with the orb.

In Team Shocker!, Jessie entered the Solaceon Contest with her Dustox. Their performance left the three judges, Raoul Contesta, Mr. Sukizo, and Nurse Joy, very impressed as Coordinator and Pokémon were in sync with one another. This secured Jessie a place in the Battle Round, where she quickly made her way to the finals. There, Jessie faced Kenny and his Prinplup using her Dustox. She was able to win the battle by taking advantage of Kenny's techniques, having used Prinplup's moves to favor her Dustox. This victory gave Jessie her first Contest Ribbon.

In Sleight of Sand!, the trio argued with Butch and Cassidy over who would steal a Hippowdon. Their constant bickering made it easy for Ash and his friends to save the Heavyweight Pokémon.

In Crossing Paths, Jessie was in the middle of a training session on the shores of a mountain lake when her Dustox got distracted and flew away. Jessie hurried after her and found her with a Shiny Dustox belonging to a Trainer named Austin. Austin told Jessie about the Dustox Crossing, a time when Dustox gather at the lake and pair up before flying over Mt. Coronet towards the Dustox Flower Field, where they start their families. After hearing this and noticing her Dustox's crush on Austin's Dustox, Jessie remembered her school days when she had a crush on a boy called Astin. One day, Astin decided to leave town to become a Top Coordinator and invited Jessie to come along with him, but Jessie declined the offer. To this day, Jessie wonders how her life would have turned out if she had joined Astin in his journey. Jessie was determined to prevent Dustox from making the same mistake, and decided to release her so she could take part in the Crossing with Austin's Dustox. When Dustox refused to leave, Jessie broke Dustox's Poké Ball, telling Dustox to go follow its heart. As Dustox fluttered off with her partner, Jessie remembered their time together before calling out to Dustox telling her to go fall in love with all of her heart and to do it for the both of them.

Jessilina meeting Wallace

In Our Cup Runneth Over!, Jessie announced her plans to enter the Wallace Cup and said she would dedicate her performance to her released Dustox. She also decided to go looking for Wallace, thinking that meeting Wallace would increase her chances of winning the special Pokémon Contest bearing his name. After finding him, she showed him her Seviper dressed up as a Milotic and asked him to award her some bonus points during the Wallace Cup. She later watched as Wallace delivered a performance with his Milotic, and asked him to teach Aqua Ring to her Seviper, but Wallace said Seviper could not learn the move.

When Jessie entered the Wallace Cup in Staging a Heroes' Welcome!, she was counting on James and Meowth to make sure she would be the one taking the Aqua Ribbon home, as she believed they had plotted a scheme for her to win the Solaceon Town Pokémon Contest. However, they admitted to her that they did not use any cheats back then and told her that she won the Solaceon Ribbon all by herself thanks to her skills as a Pokémon Coordinator. Later, Jessie used Wobbuffet in the first round of the Wallace Cup. She started the performance by running towards Wobbuffet while he ran at her using Counter. When the two collided in the middle of the stage, Jessie was sent flying in the air. She then finished it off by landing on top of Wobbuffet's head, but failed to impress the panel of judges. For this reason, Jessie didn't make it past the Performance Stage. Jessie then reappeared in the Wallace Cup in her Contest announcer persona "Jessadia", interviewing Coordinators backstage.

In Shield with a Twist!, Jessie found out a Pokémon Contest would be held in Majolica Town and decided to participate. After advancing to the second round, where she managed to defeat all of her opponents, Jessie won the prestigious Majolica Ribbon, her second Contest Ribbon overall.

In Dressed for Jess Success!, Jessie was determined to win her third Contest Ribbon. However, she was sick and unable to take part in the Lilypad Contest, so she persuaded James to go dressed as Jessilina and compete in her place. She watched the whole competition on television, in which James managed to defeat Dawn in the semifinals.

Jessie competed against several Coordinators in the Neighborly Town Pokémon Contest in Teaching the Student Teacher!. She made it through the Performance Stage and managed to defeat each one of her opponents in the Battle Stage, winning the event with the help of her Seviper and earning the Neighborly Ribbon, her fourth Contest Ribbon overall.

In Dawn of a Royal Day!, Jessie entered the Arrowroot Contest hoping to win her fifth and final Ribbon. Not knowing that Dawn and Princess Salvia had switched places for the day, she was puzzled when she saw Dawn backstage, as Dawn had already completed her requirement to compete in the Grand Festival. During the first round, she delivered a performance that assured her progression to the Battle Stage. There, she quickly made her way to the finals, where she found herself up against a disguised Salvia. Using her Seviper against Salvia's Togekiss, Salvia was able to make a comeback after hearing some encouraging words from the real Dawn, defeating Jessie and earning the Arrowroot Ribbon. Later, Salvia approached Jessie backstage and gave her the Contest Ribbon as a token of gratitude for their battle in the finals. Jessie was confused and furious for receiving what she called a pity Ribbon. She was about to throw away the Ribbon but James convinced her to keep it so she could take part in the Grand Festival; as she had obtained her fifth Contest Ribbon fair and square, she was now qualified to compete.

Jessilina in the Grand Festival

Jessie entered the Sinnoh Grand Festival in Last Call — First Round!. When the results were announced, it was revealed that Jessie was among the 32 Coordinators advancing to the Contest Battles. In Opposites Interact!, she defeated her first opponent in the Battle Stage with the help of her Yanmega and Seviper. After advancing to the semifinals of the competition in Coming Full-Festival Circle!, she used her Seviper and Carnivine to face off against Dawn and her Buneary and Cyndaquil. Despite her efforts, she ended up losing the battle.

After her loss to Dawn, Jessie got furious as her dream of becoming Top Coordinator was destroyed. Regardless, she told Dawn that since she had been defeated by her, she wouldn't forgive her for as long as she lived if Dawn didn't end up as Top Coordinator, thus showing that Jessie was rooting for Dawn despite the two being rivals. When Dawn lost to Zoey in the finals of the Grand Festival in A Grand Fight for Winning!, Jessie was enraged and decided she was done with Pokémon Contests. She then discarded her Jessilina costume before storming away. None of the main characters ever learned that Jessie and Jessilina were the same person.

Pokémon the Series: Black & White

In Pokémon the Series: Black & White, Jessie, James, and Meowth were sent to the Unova region under orders from Giovanni after they were promoted in Memories are Made of Bliss!. Now wearing black uniforms instead of their previous white ones, Jessie and James, along with Meowth, followed various missions given to them by Giovanni through other people. To prevent them from getting too much attention, Giovanni did not allow their other Pokémon to be sent to them, only making them use Pokémon native to Unova. Unbeknownst to the two, Giovanni was not certain that they would be successful; however, he sees that their presence in the region will force Team Plasma to reveal themselves.

The trio completed multiple missions for Giovanni in the early episodes of this series, with their first mission coming in Triple Leaders, Team Threats!. After arriving in Striaton City, Giovanni ordered them to visit a former laboratory located at the nearby Dreamyard, where they were tasked to take control of the area's mysterious ‘Future Energy'. They arrive and assemble a machine to collect data to be sent back to headquarters, though the machine ended up alerting Ash, his friends, and Officer Jenny of their plan. The machine is destroyed, but not before they transmitted the data back to HQ for analysis.

In The Bloom Is On Axew!, Giovanni instructed the trio to head to the Desert Resort and meet up with another Team Rocket agent to investigate a meteorite fragment located there. Upon arriving at the meetup location, the trio were surrounded by the police. As Officer Jenny prepared to arrest them, the agent-Pierce-arrived and rescued them. As they escaped, Pierce handed a briefcase to James with vital information.

In A Home for Dwebble!, the trio succeeded in their mission to steal data concerning the Meteonite from the Antimony Research Lab.

In A Night in the Nacrene City Museum!, the trio was given a mission to break into the Nacrene Museum and swap out a fake meteorite with the real one, which they accomplished in the next episode, and later handed it off to Dr. Zager.

In A Venipede Stampede!, they located the Meteonite in the Desert Resort. This would be their final mission from Giovanni, and after this they were advised to act on their own in the best interest of Team Rocket. The three decided to focus on what they do best-trying to capture Ash's Pikachu.

In Stopping the Rage of Legends! Part 2, after destroying the shrines of Tornadus and Thundurus, Team Rocket tried to capture the forces of nature, but were thwarted by Ash and his friends.

In A Restoration Confrontation! Part 1, the trio were given a mission by Dr. Zager to obtain a Cover Fossil inside Twist Mountain, which would be used to open a time gate to steal countless Fossil Pokémon from the past.  Once they stole one from Ferris, they retreated to Dr. Zager's helicopter. The Cover Fossil was successfully revived into a Tirtouga, but it escaped from the group. Team Rocket chased it down-where it evolved into a Carracosta-and held it down in front of the Time Gate. As they were about to pass through the gate, Ash and his friends arrived to stop them. This, along with Carracosta from the past, forced Team Rocket to flee emptyhanded.

Team Rocket rescuing Giovanni

The trio reappeared in An Epic Defense Force!, where they tried to capture a Meloetta for a future job: Operation Tempest. The plan continued in All for the Love of Meloetta!, where they were able to injure Meloetta before it was found by Ash and Cynthia. In Meloetta and the Undersea Temple!, the operation began in full, with the trio capturing Ash, Pikachu, and Meloetta and bringing them to the Abyssal Ruins.

Once there, Giovanni used Meloetta's song to summon the Reveal Glass and the forces of nature. During the battle, Giovanni was possessed by the Reveal Glass, and Meowth, Jessie, and James jumped in and removed him from its influence. He then ordered a full retreat from the Unova region, with the trio joining him.

Along with James and Meowth, Jessie reappeared in New Places... Familiar Faces!, returning to their original plan of catching Ash's Pikachu. They've also added new Pokémon to their team, with Jessie catching a Frillish sometime before meeting up with Ash and company. However, she is forced to give it and her Woobat away to Giovanni in The Dream Continues! under the pretense that she captured them for him. She also regained Wobbuffet as part of her team in the episode.

Pokémon the Series: XY

Jessie returned once again in Pokémon the Series: XY, following Ash to the Kalos region. In Kalos, Jessie became a Pokémon Performer, competing under the aliases Jessilee and Jessilia (Japanese: ムサヴィ Musavie).

In A Battle of Aerial Mobility!, Giovanni approved the trio's plan to steal as many rare and powerful Pokémon as they could in Kalos.

In The Bamboozling Forest!, she caught a Pumpkaboo.

In A Battle by Any Other Name!, the Team Rocket trio entered the Poké Puff Contest. After failing the preliminary round, the three decided to instead steal all the food and Pokémon at the event. They are stopped by a combined attack from the twerps Pokémon.

In A Showcase Debut!, Jessie entered the Rookie Class Pokémon Showcase that was being held in Coumarine City. In the first round, she competed against Shauna and Alouette using her Pumpkaboo, which she dressed up as a scarecrow. Jessie however had misunderstood what she meant to do, as the point of the Showcase was to show off the Pokémon's beauty whereas she had chosen to make Pumpkaboo as scary as possible. As a result, she was the least voted Performer and thus was eliminated from the competition.

Jessie trying to release Wobbuffet

In A Fork in the Road! A Parting of the Ways!, Jessie and Wobbuffet got lost after blasting off when trying to steal Pikachu. As she and Wobbuffet searched for James and Meowth they came across a wild Gloom which Jessie tried to shoo away by shoving sand at it, but instead it used Stun Spore on her and Wobbuffet causing them to fall into a nearby river. Jessie and Wobbuffet were saved from drowning by Dr. White and his female Wobbuffet. Dr. White took Jessie and Wobbuffet back to his clinic in order to recover. There, Jessie noticed the two Wobbuffet had a connection and started to fall in love with Dr. White. Later, after being found out by Ash and his friends, Jessie confided in them that she was done with Team Rocket. Unbeknownst to Jessie, James and Meowth were listening in on the conversation, but they didn't do anything to try and stop her. After realizing Dr. White didn't have feelings for her, and learning that Pumpkaboo, Inkay, and Meowth were captured by a Pokémon Hunter, Jessie decided to leave Wobbuffet behind and save her friends. As she was rescuing her friends, Wobbuffet came back to her and helped her. At the end of the episode, she was seen holding flowers that Dr. White gave her as a gift, but she decided to stick with her friends instead.

In Performing with Fiery Charm!, Jessie attempted to earn her first Princess Key by competing in the Dendemille Rookie Class Showcase. During the Theme Performance, she was seen baking some Poké Puffs for the judges along with Meowth and Wobbuffet. Meowth had heard what flavors the judges' Pokémon preferred and told Jessie to give her an advantage. As a result, the three were able to advance to the Freestyle Performance. There, they delivered a performance that impressed Delilah and some other audience members. However, it was not enough to bring Jessie the victory.

Jessilee in the Couriway Showcase

In A Festival Trade! A Festival Farewell?, Jessie and her fellow Team Rocket members attended the Gourgeist Festival, during which she dressed up as a Mismagius. She met a man named Count Pumpka who had a Pumpkaboo that had fallen in love with Jessie's. Count Pumpka offered to trade his Mawile for Jessie's Pumpkaboo, and after hearing that Mawile could Mega Evolve, Jessie became very excited and a fight broke out between Jessie and Pumpkaboo. As a result of the fight Jessie agreed to the trade. As soon as Count Pumpka called Pumpkaboo out she evolved, which caused Count Pumpka's Pumpkaboo to lose his interest in her. After remembering all the good times she had with Pumpkaboo Jessie wanted to trade the two Pokémon back, to which Count Pumpka agreed. During a blast off, which happened as a result of battling Ash and his friends, Jessie was hugging Gourgeist the entire time, happy to have her back.

Jessie entered the Couriway Town Pokémon Showcase in A Dancing Debut!, where she succeeded in getting past the Theme Performance, which consisted of baking Poké Puffs while simultaneously delivering a performance, with the help of Meowth and Wobbuffet. During the Freestyle Performance, she performed a dance routine alongside her Gourgeist and Wobbuffet that excited the audience. When the round was over and the audience was asked to vote on the Performer who had performed the best, a majority voted for Jessie, who earned her first Princess Key from Monsieur Pierre as a reward.

In Party Dancecapades!, Jessie and her team members decided to attend a dance party hosted by Monsieur Pierre. After seeing Serena and her friends go inside, Meowth noted that it would be a perfect chance to catch Pikachu. Jessie, however, decided to let go of these plans in favor of attending the dance party and decided on James being her date while Gourgeist decided Inkay to be hers. Later, she was seen flailing James during their dance. With the dance party over, Monsieur Pierre announced a Tag Battle and Miette and James were partnered against Ash and Serena. Despite James's chagrin, Jessie sternly told him to win the battle but he lost, leading to her and her Gourgeist eating from the table behind them out of frustration.

In An Explosive Operation!, Jessie, James, and Meowth were first seen contacting Giovanni and informed them about Team Flare and a powerful Pokémon which can exhibit various Formes. Intrigued, Giovanni assigned them with the task to catch the Pokémon. As the trio searched for Squishy, they met up with another Pokémon resembling Squishy but having a blue core and Team Flare scientists Aliana and Mable. After James's Inkay successfully damaged the device which was used by Team Flare to catch Z2, Jessie sent out her Gourgeist to attack Mable's Weavile and Aliana's Druddigon with Seed Bomb which created smoke, successfully allowing Team Rocket to flee with Z2. She and her teammates were confronted once again by Team Flare but despite putting up a good fight, her Gourgeist ended up being knocked out. Later, she witnessed Z2 transform into its 50% Forme to fight against Team Flare's Pokémon and later Alain's Charizard. When the Order Pokémon lost, she along with her teammates jumped in front of Z2 to rescue it from Team Flare but ended up being blasted off by Mable's Weavile and Aliana's Druddigon.

Jessie in the Master Class Showcase

In Master Class Is in Session!, having gained the two Princess Keys needed to enter the Master Class, she entered the Gloire City Pokémon Showcase Master Class. In the first round, she performed against Nini and Concetta, where she dazzled the audience with Shadow Ball from her Gourgeist. When the second part of the first round began, she chose to strike a series of poses with her Gourgeist while Nini and Concetta appealed to the audience, but later joined the appeals, commanding Shadow Ball from her Gourgeist which enveloped the stage in a lilac smoke. Due to her appeals, she managed to advance to the next round in which she participated with Meowth, and made it through to the top three semi-finalists. Jessilee seemed pleased when Monsieur Pierre announced the rules for the semi-final round in the next episode, claiming she just has to do what she has been since doing. Despite putting up a good performance with Meowth and her Gourgeist, she was defeated, and despite her partners' fear, did not seem sad about it, instead being happy that Kalos could see her beauty. When the Master Class was over, she was seen walking through Gloire City rather silently, causing James, Meowth, Inkay and her Pokémon to worry and fear her wrath. However, she shrugged their fears and decided that she just wanted to give a feast to them, which shall be financed by James, for supporting her.

She along with her teammates and her Wobbuffet worked as Malva's assistants during the Lumiose Conference from A League of His Own! to Down to the Fiery Finish!, with the aim of earning money and capturing any strong Pokémon in the Kalos League. However, they were not very pleased with their jobs and felt that they were over-working; despite this, they did not quit their jobs. In Kalos League Passion with a Certain Flare!, they made it a point to steal the two finalists, Ash and Alain's, Pokémon after the battle, but could not execute their plan due to Team Flare wreaking havoc in Lumiose City. When Malva decided to abandon the broadcasting and confront Lysandre in A Towering Takeover!, Jessie, as Jessimurrow, took to narrating the calamity herself, until the broadcast was interrupted by Team Flare. In Coming Apart at the Dreams!, she, in disguise of a news reporter, set out with her teammates, Serena, Mairin, and Professor Sycamore towards Lysandre Labs in an attempt to take over the base and bring Team Flare down.

They reached the Lysandre Labs in The Right Hero for the Right Job!, where a surprise attack from Celosia's Drapion caused her, and her teammates, to be enraged enough to remove their disguises and take on Celosia and Drapion with her Gourgeist. In the next episode, she finally defeated Celosia and Mable with her Wobbuffet, and after the Giant Rock transformed into a Zygarde, fled the Lysandre Labs along with her teammates on their helicopter. She took to reporting the entire event surrounding the Rock as they followed it on the helicopter on its way towards Anistar City, and like her teammates, was utterly surprised to see the seven Gym Leaders and Kalos Champion Diantha arrive on the scene to deal with the Giant Rock. She later assisted Ash and Alain in infiltrating the Giant Rock by sending out her Gourgeist in Forming a More Perfect Union! to fight the Megalith Zygarde. One of the roots, however, blasted her and her teammates out of the helicopter, but they were saved by Diantha's Gardevoir.

After the disaster, she and her teammates claimed sole credit for defeating Team Flare to Giovanni.

In The First Day of the Rest of Your Life!, she and Gourgeist participated in an Exhibition Showcase held in Lumiose City, specifically planned to help the citizens recover from the gloom of the disaster by spreading happiness and excitement.

Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon
Jessie catching Mimikyu

In Loading the Dex!, the trio arrived in the Alola region to obtain some rare Alolan Pokémon for Giovanni, as well as Ash's Pikachu, which they were surprised to find on Melemele Island. They had also left Inkay and Gourgeist behind at headquarters. They allied with a Mimikyu, which hated Pikachu, but at the end of the episode, a wild Bewear kidnapped Jessie and James. In First Catch in Alola, Ketchum-Style!, the Bewear looked after the trio, giving them food and shelter at its den. Jessie used James's Luxury Ball to capture Mimikyu.

It was revealed in The Sun, the Scare, the Secret Lair! that Jessie has a dislike for Giovanni's secretary Matori, who regularly displays a contemptuous and condescending attitude towards the trio and acts as if she is their boss. Jessie in turn sees Matori as a rival figure and even calls her "four eyes".

In A Seasoned Search!, the trio completed their secret base in Bewear's den.

In A Team-on-Team Tussle!, the trio, upon learning about Z-Moves, began their search for a Z-Crystal. They discovered a Darkinium Z in a nest of Alolan Rattata and Raticate, led by a Totem Raticate, and attempted to retrieve it. However, they were intercepted by members of Team Skull, also after the same Z-Crystal. Ultimately, after a clash with the other team, and with the Totem Pokémon, the trio obtained the Z-Crystal for themselves.

In Pulling Out the Pokémon Base Pepper!, it was revealed that Jessie has a star-crush on Oluolu, a famous Pokémon Base player from Melemele Island. In the episode, she, along with her teammates, played Pokémon Base against Ash and his classmates in an effort to get Oluolu's autograph, but lost. In appreciation for a good game, Oluolu offered Jessie his autograph anyway; however, Bewear charged through and carried Team Rocket off before she could accept it.

In Mimikyu Unmasked!, Jessie sent Mimikyu out to battle Ash during another attempt to steal Pikachu, but Team Rocket was quickly blasted off. This separated Mimikyu and its Trainer from James, Meowth, and Wobbuffet, while also ripping Mimikyu's rag in the process. Wearing a malasada bag, Mimikyu and its Trainer went shopping to find a replacement for its rag, but the Disguise Pokémon became irritated by Jessie's different outfits and stormed out of the store. Jessie convinced Mimikyu to hand over its rag to her for a repair. When she later opened another bag of malasadas, a trio of Murkrow stole them, but also accidentally took Mimikyu's rag. Jessie, however, was able to retrieve it. When a larger flock of Murkrow returned for an attack, Mimikyu slid into its repaired rag and protected its Trainer from the flock. Later, Team Rocket returned to Ash for a rematch. Nevertheless, Mimikyu still ignored her commands to attack Lycanroc and attacked Pikachu instead, leaving Team Rocket open to Lycanroc's Continental Crush, sending them flying until Bewear arrived to take them to its den.

In Alola, Kanto!, Team Rocket was revealed to have flown to Kanto as per orders from the headquarters. At the airport, the trio noticed Misty and Brock meet up with Ash and his classmates, and after eavesdropping on the group's conversation, decided to steal Pokémon off of Professor Oak's Laboratory and present them to Giovanni. However, their attempt to steal the group's Pokémon was thwarted, and they were carried back to Alola by Bewear in When Regions Collide!.

Team Rocket having obtained a Z-Power Ring

In Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime?, James's Mareanie learned Knock Off, meaning the trio finally had a move that worked with their Darkinium Z. They reported this to Giovanni and Matori, who informed them they needed a Z-Ring to use it. Giovanni told them to head to Ula'ula Island to meet Nanu, an old acquaintance of his who could help them out. They later arrived on the island and ran into a Gengar-nicknamed Greedy Rapooh-who stole their Darkinium Z. They chased it down, with Mimikyu attacking it with Shadow Ball. Greedy Rapooh jumps from body to body possessing them; James used the distraction to retrieve the Darkinium Z. As the battle continued, Nanu arrived and gave the trio a Z-Power Ring. The Greedy Rapooh is then defeated with Mareanie's Black Hole Eclipse. Afterwards, Jessie was given a Mimikium Z from Acerola.

In A Battle Hand-Off!, Team Rocket acted as Ash's opponent during his Thrifty Megamart trial. Mimikyu battled Pikachu, and eventually Mimikyu used Let's Snuggle Forever, with all of Team Rocket working together to provide the Z-Power. However, Pikachu was able to survive the Z-Move when he shielded himself with his newly learned Electroweb. When Ash's Electrium Z turned into a Pikashunium Z, Pikachu was able to use 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt, which defeated Mimikyu.

In Spying for the Big Guy!, Giovanni informed the trio that he wanted them to send Bewear to him, as they had earlier stated they had caught her. They attempted to catch her before realizing it would be impossible, after which Matorni and her Meowth appeared demanding the Strong Arm Pokémon. They managed to stall by promising other strong Pokémon-namely those belonging to Ash and his friends and Grandpa Forest. Both attempts failed, and Matori settled for taking Stufful. Unable to let their friend be taken, the trio tricked Matori into taking Meowth disguised as Stufful. When the ruse was discovered, Matori's Meowth attacked, which summoned Bewear to the rescue.

In Battle Royal 151!, Jessie entered the Manalo Conference alongside James. Disguised as Jessina (Japanese: ムサジーナ Musasina), Jessie was among the 151 Trainers taking part in the Battle Royal preliminary round. Despite intending to keep herself hidden and avoid elimination until the battle was over, Mimikyu kept running around the battlefield, attacking any Pikachu it could find. By the end, Jessie was one of the 16 Trainers still standing at the end of the round. The match-ups for the next round revealed that she would be battling James.

In The Battlefield of Truth and Love!, Jessie and Wobbuffet battled James and his Mareanie. Fully confident in her own victory, she allowed Wobbuffet to act however he pleased, which he did by repeatedly using Counter and Mirror Coat against Mareanie's Spike Cannon and Sludge Bomb. However, Mareanie ultimately managed to defeat Wobbuffet with a relentless Spike Cannon barrage after James gained a newfound resolve to win, thus eliminating Jessie from the competition.

In Thank You, Alola! The Journey Continues!, Team Rocket received a call from HQ to return to headquarters. Unable to believe Mimikyu and Mareanie would be happy there, they released the two Pokémon before returning to Kanto.

Pokémon Journeys: The Series

In Ivysaur's Mysterious Tower!, Giovanni ordered Jessie, James, Meowth, and Wobbuffet to steal strong and rare Pokémon for the organization and make Team Rocket known and feared across the world. He then promised to deliver them a new secret weapon meant to help them achieve these objectives: The Rocket Prize Master. They used it for the first time against Ash and Goh, receiving a Tyranitar and Gyarados. Despite the powerful Pokémon, they lost to Ash's Pikachu.

Sometime prior to Kicking It from Here Into Tomorrow!, Team Rocket was revealed to have made a secret base in Vermilion City.

Team Rocket encouraging Ditto

In A Talent for Imitation!, Team Rocket encountered a movie-star Ditto who'd run away due to its inability to properly Transform and its Trainer's short temper. Deciding to make Ditto a new member of Team Rocket, the group worked to teach Ditto to control its nerves and transform properly. After learning that Ditto was needed back, however, Team Rocket pretended they'd kidnapped Ditto to cover up the fact it ran away. The trio provoked Ash and Pikachu to blast them off, and with that Ditto was returned to the studio.

In A Little Rocket R & R!, Team Rocket was ordered to go on vacation to the Resort Area in Sinnoh. However, the reward was a ploy by Matori and her agents, who planned to steal many Pokémon from the Resort Area. After overhearing her insulting them, the four decided to get their revenge by helping Ash and Goh free the Pokémon. The subsequent battle quickly turned against Matori and her unit, and when Officer Jenny arrived, they retreated.

In Sword and Shield: The Darkest Day!, the trio were sent to Galar on Giovanni's command. During the trip, the Darkest Day began, and the trio planned on using the opportunity to capture Eternatus. The plan failed, however, when Meowth was hit by a beam of Dynamax energy, causing him to Gigantamax. Unable to handle the energy, he began to attack his teammates. He eventually regained control of himself and went to attack Eternatus with G-Max Gold Rush, but was robbed of his Dynamax energy and subsequently sent blasting off by the Gigantic Pokémon.

Team Rocket's radio show

In The Good, The Bad, and The Lucky!, Team Rocket met up with Cassidy, who was running a café in a small snowy village with her Raticate. James grew to like the place and was encouraged by the other to stay, which he agreed to. Jessie and Meowth later found Butch running a bakery in a quiet coastal village alongside a female Meowth. Meowth fell in love, and Jessie persuaded Meowth to stay with it. The two later reunited with her after getting kicked out and rejected.

In Radio Lulled the Mischievous Stars!, Team Rocket was ordered by Giovanni to recruit new members for Team Rocket. They figured radio was the best method, and as a result started a new late-night radio show. However, after their first episode, they discovered not a single person tuned in to listen. The second episode went no better, and as a result they gave the show a major overhaul. Through many changes, Team Rocket's radio program started to become more and more popular, but along the way they forgot about the goal of recruitment. They were later scolded by Giovanni for this, though they occasionally did the show for fun.

In Team Rocket Expedition which stands by the evils of love and truth, Jessie briefly travels alongside James and Meowth to the Paldea region.

Team Rocket reuniting with all of their current Pokémon

In Rocket Revengers!, Jessie, James, and Meowth reunited with their Pokémon that had been residing at Team Rocket HQ. Realizing the potential of such a large group, the team hatched a scheme to isolate Ash's Pikachu and capture him. The trio waited at the end of the trap, where they ambushed an isolated Pikachu. Despite their efforts, however, Pikachu was able to evade capture, and a wild Latias that had been following Ash intervened and sent the evil group blasting off. Upset over the failure, the trio decided it was time to go their separate ways.

In Ash and Latios, she returned to the headquarters and gained a job working in the cafeteria, though the work was harder than she imagined. She later snuck out to try and steal Pikachu once again, where she unexpectedly ran into James and Meowth, who had gotten the same idea. Tired of working at the cafeteria, the Team Rocket trio rekindled their friendship and decided to work together once more. They launched their attack, snatching Pikachu in a net and reciting their motto to celebrate their reunion. Ash's Pidgeot came to Ash and Pikachu's rescue, and Pikachu delivered the usual blast-off Thunderbolt. Despite failing once again, the Team Rocket trio were happy to be together again and vowed to never give up on chasing after Pikachu as a team as they disappeared into the distance.

Character

Jessie enraged

She has a long-standing bitter rivalry with Cassidy, another member of Team Rocket. Beginning in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, she has a rivalry with Matori, Giovanni's secretary and an elite Team Rocket operative.

Jessie seems to have a special preference for snake-like Pokémon, owning both an Arbok and a Seviper. In The Ninja-Poké Showdown, she expressed a preference for Poison-type Pokémon in general, though several Bug-type and Ghost-type Pokémon have since appeared on her team including Yanmega, Gourgeist, and Mimikyu.

Jessie is prone to vanity and explosive anger. She values her appearance, and she can get furious when her face or hair is damaged, such as in The Tower of Terror, Tracey Gets Bugged, Don't Touch That 'dile!, A Tail with a Twist, Maxxed Out!, A Meteoric Rise to Excellence!, One for the Goomy!, and Good Friends, Great Training!. When this happens, she may do things like beat up a Pokémon such as Meowth or her Seviper. Furthermore, Jessie goes into a violent outrage whenever someone insults her beauty by calling her old, such as in the episode The Battling Eevee Brothers when Misty calls Jessie an "old hag" (Japanese: oba-san). She shares this trait with James, who hates being referred to as an old man. She is also angered (compared to her companions, who are usually depressed when they fail at something) when missions are either failed or botched, which is a regular thing. At times, her anger is also shown to scare James and Meowth, usually when they are expecting it or if she really loses her temper. This intense anger was demonstrated in the Indigo League, Orange Islands, and part of the Johto League story arcs. However, her anger tantrums have become less frequent and eruptive over the next story arcs.

While she is very incompetent when it comes to stealing Pokémon, Jessie eventually becomes a highly accomplished Performer and a Master Class semi-finalist. Indeed, after she loses to Serena, she is overjoyed by her steady progress, instead of going on her usual rants or crying like the others.

During her time in Hoenn, Jessie revealed herself to have been a former Pokémon Coordinator and re-assumed this role throughout her time in the region. Still, almost every time, she performed terribly. Her skills significantly improved during her time in Sinnoh, during which Jessie proved herself to be a talented Coordinator. Her skills and knowledge of Contests were further showcased in Team Shocker!, where Jessie criticized Dawn's performance after her Ambipom's attack proved distracting. Jessie tended to showcase her relationships with her Pokémon. She was consistently noted for her unique style and enthusiasm, literally throwing herself into her performances and enduring attacks. Despite being defeated on many occasions, Jessie has nonetheless been able to win a few Contests on her own, including defeating Kenny in the finals of the Solaceon Contest and being praised by Top Coordinator Johanna for her winning performance in the Neighborly Contest.

Jessie's current party, excluding Wobbuffet

Pokémon

As with the standards set by the Team Rocket organization, Jessie initially started off with mainly Poison-type Pokémon, but as the series continued onward, her team has diversified. Most of her other Pokémon tend to be unusual in appearance and don't usually fit the general image of "cute". However, she does display a desire to obtain Pokémon that are considered "adorable" when the opportunity presents itself, especially feminine Pokémon such as Happiny or Smoochum. She was also attracted to a Weavile in Duels of the Jungle!.

Occasionally, she manages to take control of some powerful Pokémon, but due to either inexperience or hubris, this often backfires and loses control of them. She doesn't appear to train her Pokémon that often. Instead, they are often used to fight against Ash and his friends. When she enters Pokémon Contests, she tends to involve herself in her Pokémon's appeals.

Jessie's Starmie

During a flashback, Jessie used a Starmie similar to a shuriken, telling it to use "water magic" Water Gun as it hit others while spinning. However, it was heavily implied that Jessie made this up.

Starmie's only known move is Water Gun.

Jessie in The Power of Us

Jessie appeared in I Choose You!, which is set in a different continuity from Pokémon the Series. She first appeared in disguise with James and Meowth in a Pokémon Center, being wanted for stealing Pokémon. When a Trainer who had just battled an Entei hurried inside the Pokémon Center, Team Rocket eavesdropped on the conversation and decided to hunt for Entei themselves. While looking for Entei in the forest, they were blasted off by a raging Onix.

In The Power of Us Team Rocket hide behind some bushes as Ash meets Margo. Meowth asks how they are going to steal Pikachu and Jessie suggests starting a juice business because that they will become rich. That day, before the catch race Team Rocket is in the background selling Lum Berries. Later that evening Team Rocket are trying to steal from Toren's lab Jessie reveals that she has "No idea" what moves and abilities are. Team Rocket is about to begin stealing when the Smeargle ink spills and Toren comes into the room to investigate so Team Rocket hides outside.

The next day while Toren is presenting his research, Harriet finds Team Rocket backstage and asks them who they are. Jessie starts saying the Team Rocket motto but Meowth interrupts them. James drops a smoke bomb and they run to the forest but while they are running Jessie thinks that she tossed the Effect Spore to Meowth but it turns out she didn't and she actually dropped it.

After the Effect Spore started spreading across the city, Team Rocket took their Lum Berry cart and went to the Pokémon Center. As they caught their breath Toren, with their permission, takes all of their Lum Berries to stop the spread of and reverse the effects of the Effect Spore.

In the core series games

Artwork of Jessie and her Arbok from the Game Freak website

Both Jessie and James appear in Pokémon Yellow as in-game bosses, collectively referred to as the Rocket Trainer class rather than by name. They first attack the player in Mt. Moon while trying to take one of the rare Fossils uncovered there.

Later, in Celadon City's Rocket Hideout, Jessie and James guard Giovanni's room. During that time, as the player runs into them, they are eager for revenge after Red busted up their plans at Mt. Moon.

They hold Mr. Fuji hostage at Pokémon Tower, attacking the player on the seventh floor.

Finally, at Silph Co. in Saffron City, Jessie and James make their final appearance, once again trying to stall the main character from reaching their Boss.

Unlike in Pokémon the Series, Jessie and James do not follow the main character around and come up with their usual evil plans to capture Pikachu.

Jessie and James appear in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! on the same level as admins. They are more powerful than other Team Rocket Grunts and will always challenge the player to a Double Battle. If the player tries to leave Viridian City without delivering Oak's Package, they will be blocking the north exit to the city. Above the entrance to Mt. Moon, Meowth is sleeping, but when the player takes a few steps into the cave, Jessie and James appear, Meowth wakes up and joins them, and the trio runs away, leaving the player to follow them into Mt. Moon. When the player gets a Fossil and starts leaving the cave, Jessie and James challenge them to a battle.

Pokémon Masters EX

Main article: Jessie (Masters)

Jessie forms a sync pair with Arbok in Pokémon Masters EX. Jessie became a playable sync pair on July 9, 2020.

In this game, Jessie, from the alternate movie continuity, somehow got transported to Pasio while chasing a Shiny Celebi. Unlike most characters in Pokémon Masters EX, Jessie's appearance is based directly on her Pokémon the Series incarnation, and retains her Japanese and English voice actors.

In the manga

The Electric Tale of Pikachu

Jessie and James as a married couple in the manga
Jessie in the manga

Jessie appears in The Electric Tale of Pikachu along with her teammates James and Meowth.

Her first appearance is in Pikachu's Excellent Adventure. She, James and Meowth tag along with a group of lost Pokémon, including Pikachu, to try to find the Hidden Village. When they arrive, she and James attempt to steal the Pokémon living in the village, but they are quickly expelled by a Kangaskhan. In this chapter, she uses an Ekans in battle.

Jessie's next appearance is in You Gotta Have Friends. She and James attempt to steal a herd of wild Pikachu. At this point in the manga, Jessie's Ekans has evolved into Arbok, though its evolution is not depicted in the manga.

Following this, Jessie and James begin regularly appearing in the manga, following Ash to the Pokémon League championship at Indigo Plateau and cheering him on at the Orange League. Jessie, along with James, seems to maintain a friendship or at least acquaintance with Ash, as he has the Team Rocket trio deliver a letter to his mother as they are passing Pallet Town in Epilogue: Wild Type. In this epilogue chapter, she is shown as slightly older with a shorter hairdo.

While in the animated series, the nature of Jessie's relationship with James is not explicitly stated, in the epilogue of the manga, James is shown confessing his love to Jessie. They are shown afterwards married with Jessie visibly pregnant.

Like many female characters in the manga, Jessie is depicted with an oversized bust, though this is edited down for VIZ Media's English translation.

Jessie debuted in Flash of the Titans!. In the manga, the role of the Team Rocket trio is quite reduced compared to the animated series, so their participation ends up being removed or much smaller than the episodes on which each chapter is based.

Trivia

Jessie's special lure

Name origin

Jessie's English name is taken from Jesse James, an American outlaw. Her Japanese name, Musashi, is taken from 宮本武蔵 Miyamoto Musashi, a famous Japanese swordsman. In his most famous duel, he defeated his rival, 佐々木小次郎 Sasaki Kojirō, after whom James got his Japanese name. However, one can argue that she is also named after the Japanese battleship Musashi, as her rival Cassidy's Japanese name is based on the Japanese battleship Yamato.

She is based on a combination of Takeshi Shudō's old girlfriend from when he was in school, and Majo, the female antagonist of the Time Bokan anime series.
