Abe (Japanese: マオのパパ Mao's father) is a recurring character who appeared in the Pokémon anime. He is the father of Mallow and Ulu, and the owner of the Aina's Kitchen.

History

Abe in his youth

Abe first appeared in A Seasoned Search!, where Ash and his classmates were having a meal, only for Mallow to ruin it when she tried to apply a pinch of Pikachu's Thunderbolt. He made them some more food to make amends for Mallow's cooking and later explained the history about the legendary Alolan Stew, remarking that the key ingredient was out of date. Despite this, Mallow and Ash went looking for it the next day and were successful.

He later reappeared in The Ol' Raise and Switch!, where he was serving food to his customers, only for Togedemaru, who Mallow was watching for the weekend, to become overexcited and roll around in a ball, causing trouble by knocking over customers.

Abe reappeared in Mallow and the Forest Teacher!, where the Aina's Kitchen was on TV, only for Mallow to run away into the forest after having a falling-out with her father. There, she encountered the same Oranguru that Abe encountered in the past. Abe later found Mallow and they reconciled.

Abe appeared again in The Professors' New Adventure!, attending the wedding of Professor Kukui and Professor Burnet and being part of the catering at the wedding.

Abe reappeared in Tasting the Bitter with the Sweet!, during a flashback when Mallow and Lana were young where Lana's mother made a delivery.

Abe reappeared in Sours for the Sweet!, when Ulu returned. He and Mallow were preparing to enter the Alola Bread Festival‎‎, only for Abe to hurt his back. Mallow and Ulu competed together, but Ulu lost his Berries to a Snorlax. Though Ulu left soon after, Mallow was able to win the competition.

Abe reappeared in All They Want to Do is Dance Dance!, where he watched Mallow and Steenee prepare for the PokéDance that the Pokémon School was doing. He volunteered to take over Mallow's chores so they could have more time to practice.

Abe reappeared in Filling the Light with Darkness!, where he was among the adults who were tired and without motivation due to the effects of a Necrozma. He closed Aina's Kitchen and later visited Oranguru's place.

Abe reappeared again in SM093, where he watched Mallow perform in the school play.
