Kaede (Japanese: カエデ Kaede) is a member of Team Rocket in the manga series How I Became a Pokémon Card. Her Pokémon is a Gloom (referred to as a "Dark Gloom", as the series is based on the Pokémon TCG).

History

As a child, Kaede was very close to Celadon City's Gym Leader, Erika. She has always been incredibly allergic to flowers, but Erika was unaware of this and continued to give her flowers, believing her severe reactions were due to an intense love for them.

At Kaede's seventh birthday party, Erika gave Kaede a bouquet of flowers as a gift in front of all of her friends. Kaede had a severe reaction, including a very runny nose, which caused all of the other attendees to begin laughing and quietly making fun of her. In a similar event in the same time frame, Erika gifted Kaede a flower necklace. She once again had a severe reaction and ran off into the forest, where she first met her Oddish. After these incidents, Kaede swore that she would get her 'revenge' on Erika.

Years later, Kaede was given the opportunity to get said revenge by infiltrating Erika's Gym. When she attempted to do so, she was caught due to her allergies acting up, and in frustration, she wished that flowers didn't exist. This hurt Gloom, who was then picked up by Erika's maids, who harshly criticized her, claiming that a member of Team Rocket could never understand feelings. Kaede challenged this, reminding Gloom of all of the good times the two of them had together. Gloom rushes back over to Kaede and jumped into her arms, then using Gloom's Pokemon Power, 'Pollen Stench' to knock the maids unconscious.

Erika showed up to investigate the commotion and immediately became incredibly excited to see Kaede after years of having been apart. Kaede tried to challenge Erika, but was unable to because the latter became preoccupied with Gloom, who had evolved since their last meeting. Erika then excitedly showed Kaede her Vileplume, which caused Kaede to fall to the ground unconscious.

Later, after waking up, Kaede one again declared she would never forgive Erika and that she must have flowers for brains. She reassured Gloom that, since it is close to evolving into Dark Vileplume, they will be able to make Erika pay next time they meet.

Kaede first met Oddish as a child. It later evolved into Gloom. It is typically seen carrying around a tissue box, since Kaede often sneezes. Even though Kaede is allergic to Gloom and often has to move away from it, the two of them still care deeply for each other.

Gloom's only known move is Poison Powder*.
