In There's a New Kid in Town!, it was revealed that Ren had been helping Professor Cerise since he was a student, trying to do research on Yamper. However, Chloe disapproved of this and was always angry with him. Because of that, Ren always tried to research Yamper during times when Chloe was not around.
Ren debuted in Legend? Go! Friends? Go!, where he attended the opening of Cerise Laboratory. He later saw Professor Oak and Delia off as they returned to Pallet Town. In Ivysaur's Mysterious Tower!, he apologized for being late due to a traffic jam caused by an outbreak of Ivysaur.
He also seems to be afraid of paranormal activities and ghosts, including Gengar. Moreover, he believed Goh's claims regarding Gengar's curse. In How Are You Gonna Keep 'Em Off of the Farm?, it's revealed that he has been uncomfortable with such activities from the time when he was Cerise's student along with Endo.
