A map of the Hoenn, Johto, Kanto, and Sinnoh regions in the anime; locations of movies are deliberately marked, and labeled Pokémon are positioned in relation to the locations of certain episodes.

This is a chronological list of significant events in the anime and the episodes which they occurred in, or, for events which happened outside the series, where they happened in relation to the episodes.

2,000 years prior	A war breaks out. Soldiers leave Kanto by ship. (EP020) A woman dies while waiting for her lover to return at Maiden's Peak, creating a haunted monument. (EP020) Sir Aaron tries to stop a war. He seals his Lucario in a staff. (M08)
1,000 years prior	A war breaks out in the form of a clash between the Hero of Truth and Hero of Ideals, pitting Reshiram and Zekrom against each other and resulting in the devastation of the Kingdom of the Vale. (M14) Using power borrowed from Victini, the King of the People of the Vale moves his castle from the Kingdom of the Vale to the site where Eindoak Town will later be founded, then dies, trapping Victini in the area. 500 years prior	The Artificial Pokémon, Magearna, is created by Nikola. (M19)
400 years prior	Azalea Town experiences a devastating drought that ends when a Slowpoke's yawn brings rain, prompting the town's people to begin a time-honored tradition of respect for all Slowpoke. (EP142)
300 years prior	The Orange League takes place for the first time. (EP095) The captain wins the Orange League. The captain's ship gets caught in a storm and sinks.
200 years prior	Early versions of Poké Balls are used. (EP232) Lokoko's master, who looks identical to Brock, left his home in Johto to go on a journey. He never returns. (EP232)
100 years prior to XY	Hoopa Unbound causes a great clash of Pokémon that nearly destroys Dahara City. (M18)
50 years prior	Samuel Oak is born. (M04)
40 years prior	Samuel Oak goes on his Pokémon journey. (M04)
30 years prior	Kaiser reports the existence of a Dratini in the Safari Zone. Thousands of people came to get the rare Pokémon, which literally destroys the Safari Zone in the process. Since then, they only allow Safari Ball there. (EP035)
29 years prior	Delia is born.
20 years prior	Grings Kodai touches the time ripple, laying all of Crown City's plant life to waste. Kodai starts to have visions of the future, and Celebi stops visiting Crown City. (M13)
???	Samuel Oak becomes a Professor. Delia and Spencer study as students of Professor Oak. (M03) Jessie is born. James is born. James is arranged to marry Jessebelle. (EP048) James runs away from home. (EP048) Jessie's mother, Miyamoto, is sent on a mission to catch Mew. She vanishes without a trace. (The Birth of Mewtwo) James catches a Carnivine. (EP017) Brock catches a Geodude. Flint leaves Pewter City to train, leaving the Pewter Gym in the hands of his oldest son, Brock. (EP005) Lola leaves Pewter City out of boredom, leaving her children in the hands of her oldest son, Brock. (EP005) In the dub of EP005, Flint says Lola died at this point, rather than leaving. Clemont becomes Gym Leader of the Lumiose Gym. He catches his Magnemite, Magneton, and Helioptile, which later evolves into a Heliolisk. Less than 1 year prior	Ash and Gary find an old Poké Ball while fishing, breaking it in half after arguing who will get it. (EP269)
Less than 1 year prior to DP	Paul enters the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn Leagues. Paul catches his Elekid, Murkrow, Weavile, Ninjask and Chimchar. Zoey competes in three Contests and wins one of them.
Less than 1 year prior to XY	Clemont creates Clembot which then Clemont answered his voice code incorrectly which lead to him and Bonnie fleeing from the Gym. (XY009) Clemont catches a Bunnelby. (XY088) Shauna, Trevor, and Tierno start their Pokémon journeys with Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, respectively. (XY039)
Less than 1 year prior to SM	Lana rescues a Popplio from Team Skull Grunts, and it joins her party. (SM005)

Original series

Kanto

Episode	Details
Pokémon, I Choose You!	Ash turns 10. Gary turns 10. Two unnamed and unknown Trainers receive Pokédexes and starter Pokémon from Professor Oak. One chooses Bulbasaur, the other chooses Charmander. The two unknown rookie Trainers leave Pallet Town Gary receives a Pokédex and his starter Pokémon from his grandfather, Professor Oak. He chooses a Squirtle. Gary leaves Pallet Town to become a Pokémon Trainer. Ash receives a Pokédex and his starter Pokémon from Professor Oak. He chooses the only Pokémon left, Pikachu. Ash leaves Pallet Town to become a Pokémon Trainer. Ash attempts to capture a Pidgey. He fails miserably. Ash meets Misty and steals her bicycle. Pikachu attacks a flock of Spearow, destroying Misty's bike and depleting its health in the process. Ash sees a Ho-Oh.
Pokémon Emergency!	Ash arrives in Viridian City. Misty begins following Ash until he repays her for her broken bicycle. Ash meets Team Rocket as they attempt to rob the Pokémon Center. Team Rocket is defeated by Pikachu for the first of many, many times. They vow to capture it. Ash and Misty leave Viridian City. Ash and Misty enter Viridian Forest.
Ash Catches a Pokémon!	Ash and Misty are in Viridian Forest. Ash catches Caterpie. Ash catches Pidgeotto. Caterpie evolves into Metapod.
Challenge of the Samurai	Ash and Misty are in Viridian Forest. Metapod evolves into Butterfree.
Showdown in Pewter City	Two weeks have passed since the first episode. Ash and Misty leave Viridian Forest. Ash and Misty arrive in Pewter City. Ash meets Flint. Ash goes to Pewter Gym and challenges the Gym Leader, Brock. He loses by forfeit. With the help of Flint, Ash supercharges his Pikachu at an abandoned mill. Ash goes to Pewter Gym and rechallenges Brock. He loses by forfeit again, despite having a lucky advantage from the sprinklers going off. Brock gives Ash the Boulder Badge despite his forfeiting. Flint reveals himself as Brock's father, and reclaims the responsibilities of being Gym Leader and taking care of Brock's siblings. Brock joins Ash, starting his journey to become a Pokémon Breeder. Ash and his friends leave Pewter City.
Clefairy and the Moon Stone	Ash and his friends arrive at Mt. Moon. Brock catches Zubat. Brock meets Team Rocket for the first time. Ash and his friends leave Mt. Moon.
Water Flowers of Cerulean City	Misty leaves Ash to avoid going to Cerulean City. Ash and Brock arrive in Cerulean City. Brock leaves Ash for the day. Ash goes to Cerulean Gym and challenges the Gym Leader, who he learns is Misty. Ash's battle against Misty is interrupted by Team Rocket. Daisy, Lily, and Violet give Ash the Cascade Badge despite the inconclusive match. Misty and Brock rejoin Ash. Ash and his friends leave Cerulean City.
The School of Hard Knocks	Two months have passed since the first episode.
Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village	Ash and his friends get lost on the way to Vermilion City. They find the Hidden Village. Ash catches Bulbasaur. Ash and his friends leave the Hidden Village, returning to the route to Vermilion City.
Charmander the Stray Pokémon	Ash and his friends are en route to Vermilion City. Ash catches Charmander.
Here Comes the Squirtle Squad	Ash and his friends are en route to Vermilion City. Ash catches Squirtle.
Mystery at the Lighthouse	Ash catches Krabby. Ash sends Krabby to Professor Oak's Laboratory, unbeknownst to him. Ash meets Bill. Ash, his friends, and Bill see a giant Dragonite.
Electric Shock Showdown	Ash goes to Vermilion Gym and challenges the Gym Leader, Lt. Surge. He loses. Pikachu reveals that he does not want to evolve into Raichu. Ash goes to Vermilion Gym and rechallenges the Gym Leader. He wins. Lt.Surge gives Ash the Thunder Badge.
Battle Aboard the St. Anne	Ash and his friends board the St. Anne. Ash trades Butterfree for Raticate. James buys a Magikarp from the Magikarp salesman. Ash trades back Raticate for Butterfree. The St. Anne sinks with Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket still aboard.
Pokémon Shipwreck	A funeral at sea is held for Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket. Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket escape from the sunken St. Anne. Magikarp evolves into Gyarados. James loses control of Gyarados and thus releases it.
Island of the Giant Pokémon	An amusement park owned by Giovanni is wrecked by Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket. Ash and his friends arrive in Porta Vista.
Beauty and the Beach	Misty and Brock meet Delia and Professor Oak in person for the first time. Misty also meets Gary for the first time.
Tentacool and Tentacruel	Misty catches Horsea. Porta Vista is attacked by a giant Tentacruel and a swarm of Tentacool. Ash and his friends leave Porta Vista in a boat headed for the mainland.
The Ghost of Maiden's Peak	It is the last day of summer.
Bye-Bye Butterfree	Ash and his friends are en route to Saffron City. Butterfree becomes the mate of the pink Butterfree. Ash releases Butterfree.
Abra and the Psychic Pokémon	Ash and his friends arrive in Saffron City. Ash goes to Saffron Gym and challenges the Gym Leader, Sabrina. He loses. After learning that Psychic types are weak against Ghost Pokémon, Ash and his friends leave Saffron City in order to capture one.
The Tower of Terror	Ash and his friends arrive in Lavender Town. Ash enters the Pokémon Tower. Ash and Pikachu are knocked out by a falling chandelier and their spirits fly around the Pokémon Tower, having fun with a Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar. Ash befriends Haunter. Ash and Pikachu are revived.
Haunter Versus Kadabra	Ash goes to Saffron Gym and attempts to rechallenge the Gym Leader, Sabrina, but discovers that Haunter is missing. As such, he opts out of a battle. Brock and Misty are turned into dolls. Ash goes to Saffron Gym and challenges Sabrina to a rematch. Because of Haunter making Sabrina laugh, he wins. Brock and Misty are returned to normal. Sabrina gives Ash the Marsh Badge. Ash leaves Haunter with Sabrina.
Primeape Goes Bananas	Charmander learns Rage. Ash catches Primeape.
Pokémon Scent-sation	Ash and his friends arrive in Celadon City. Ash is thrown out of Celadon Gym. Ash cooperates with Team Rocket, who disguise him as a girl. Ash goes to Celadon Gym and challenges the Gym Leader, Erika. Ash's battle against Erika is interrupted by Team Rocket. Celadon Gym catches on fire. Ash rescues Erika's Gloom from the fire. Erika gives Ash the Rainbow Badge.
Hypno's Naptime	Ash and his friends arrive in HopHopHop Town. Misty catches Psyduck by accident. Ash and his friends leave HopHopHop Town.
Pokémon Fashion Flash	Ash and his friends are on Scissor Street in Celadon City. Brock meets Suzie, a famous breeder whom he admires greatly. Brock asks Suzie to teach him to be a great breeder. She turns him down. Brock receives Vulpix from Suzie.
The Punchy Pokémon	Ash and Brock enter the P1 Grand Prix with Geodude and Primeape. Ash and Primeape win the P1 Grand Prix. Ash gives Primeape to Anthony.
Sparks Fly for Magnemite	Ash and his friends arrive in Gringey City. Ash catches Muk. Ash sends Muk to Professor Oak's Laboratory. Ash and his friends leave Gringey City.
Dig Those Diglett	Several months have passed since the first episode. Ash and his friends are en route to Fuchsia City. Ekans evolves into Arbok. Koffing evolves into Weezing.
The Ninja Poké-Showdown	Ash and his friends arrive in Fuchsia City. Ash goes to Fuchsia Gym and challenges the Gym Leader, Koga. Ash's battle against Koga is interrupted by Team Rocket. Ash rechallenges Koga. He wins. Misty discovers Psyduck's Ability to use Confusion and Disable when it gets a headache. Koga gives Ash the Soul Badge.
The Flame Pokémon-athon	Ash and his friends look for the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. They enter the Pokémon reserves surrounding the Safari Zone.
The Kangaskhan Kid	Ash and his friends look for the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. They are still in the Pokémon reserves surrounding the Safari Zone.
EP035	Ash and his friends enter the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. Ash catches thirty Tauros. Ash and his friends leave the Safari Zone and Fuchsia City.
The Bridge Bike Gang	Ash and his friends cross Cycling Road. Their next Gym destination at this point is not clear.
Pikachu's Good-Bye	Pikachu reveals that he would rather stay with Ash than wild Pikachu.
Holiday Hi-Jynx	It is Christmas Eve. Ash and his friends help save Santa Claus from Team Rocket.
The March of the Exeggutor Squad	Ash's Charmander evolves into Charmeleon.
The Problem with Paras	Ash's Charmeleon starts to disobey him.
The Song of Jigglypuff	Ash and his friends help a Jigglypuff learn to Sing. It starts to follow them secretly.
Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon	Ash's Charmeleon evolves into Charizard. Ash finds an Egg. Brock starts taking care of it.
Princess Versus Princess	Chronologically, this episode actually takes place before So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd. It was not aired in order. It is the Princess Festival. Jessie catches Lickitung.
Who Gets to Keep Togepi?	The Egg hatches into Togepi. After a battle, Togepi goes to Misty, since it saw her right after hatching and believes she is its mother.
Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden	Bulbasaur reveals that it does not want to evolve into an Ivysaur yet.
The Purr-fect Hero	It is Kids Day.
Pokémon Paparazzi	Ash meets Todd Snap. Todd joins Ash.
The Breeding Center Secret	Pre-episode James catches a Weepinbell. Weepinbell evolves into Victreebel. Todd leaves Ash.
Riddle Me This	Ash and his friends arrive on Cinnabar Island. Ash challenges Blaine to a Gym battle.
Volcanic Panic	Ash forfeits his match with Blaine, not wanting Pikachu to get hurt. Blaine grants Ash a rematch after he and his friends save Cinnabar Gym. Ash defeats Blaine. Blaine gives Ash the Volcano Badge.
Beach Blank-Out Blastoise	Ash and his friends leave Cinnabar Island.
The Misty Mermaid	Misty leaves Horsea and Starmie at the Cerulean Gym. Seel evolves into Dewgong.
The Battle of the Badge	Ash arrives in Viridian City. At the Viridian Gym, Giovanni easily defeats all of Gary's Pokémon using Mewtwo. Jessie and James give Ash the Earth Badge. The Viridian Gym collapses.
It's Mr. Mime Time	Delia catches Mimey. Mewtwo escapes from Giovanni.
The Evolution Solution	Jessie catches Shellder. Jessie releases Shellder.

Bad to the Bone	Ash and his friends arrive at the Indigo Plateau.

Round One - Begin!	Krabby evolves into Kingler. Ash defeats Mandi and wins his first round battle at the Pokémon League.

In The Shadow of Zekrom!	Trip turns 10. Ash and Pikachu travel with Delia and Professor Oak to the Unova region where Professor Oak is attending a conference. Deerling's Spring coat indicates it is Spring in Unova. Ash learns that all of the Pokémon that live in the Unova region cannot be found in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn or Sinnoh. Ash and the group meet Professor Juniper. Team Rocket also arrive in the Unova region, having been assigned there by Giovanni. Pikachu becomes temporarily unable to use Electric-type attacks after being hit by lightning caused by Zekrom. Ash meets a photographer and beginning Trainer by the name of Trip. Trip obtains a Snivy from Professor Juniper then battles Ash's Pikachu and wins.

Ash leaves all of the Pokémon he traveled with in Unova and the Decolore Islands (except Pikachu) with Professor Oak. Ash receives new clothes from his mother. Jessie and James give their Unova Pokémon to Giovanni at the Team Rocket Headquarters, while Jessie retrieves her Wobbuffet. Team Rocket decide to pursue Ash to Kalos. Ash and Alexa leave Kanto for the Kalos region.

Ash is unable to have an official Gym Battle as he needs four Badges in order to challenge the Lumiose Gym. Ash meets an inventor named Clemont and his sister Bonnie for the first time. Ash has a battle with Clemont, but it gets interrupted by Team Rocket. Clemont and Bonnie encounter Team Rocket for the first time. A Froakie saves Pikachu from Team Rocket, but is injured in the process.
Lumiose City Pursuit!	Ash meets Professor Sycamore. Ash, Clemont, Bonnie, and Team Rocket learn about Mega Evolution. Serena sees Ash on TV and recognizes him from when they were younger. Ash meets a Mega Blaziken. Ash receives a new Pokédex from Professor Sycamore. Ash captures the Froakie he befriended.

Serena reunites with Ash, although he fails to recognize her from their childhood. Serena meets Clemont and Bonnie for the first time. Ash meets up with Alexa again. Clemont, Bonnie and Serena meet Alexa for the first time.
Battling on Thin Ice!	Serena reveals that she knew Ash from summer camp in Pallet Town, but he does not remember her. Ash has a rematch against Viola and wins, earning himself the Bug Badge. Ash learns that the next Gym is located in Cyllage City.
Giving Chase at the Rhyhorn Race!	Serena officially joins the the gang in their travels. Serena tells Ash about the first time they met and Ash finally remembers her. The gang decide to head back through Lumiose City on their way to Cyllage City. Serena encounters Team Rocket for the first time.
Clemont's Got a Secret!	Ash and his friends return to Lumiose City. Ash and Serena meet Meyer, Clemont and Bonnie's father. Ash and Serena learn that Clemont is the ejected Gym Leader of Lumiose Gym, having been forced to abandon it with Bonnie when Clembot, one of his inventions, ran amok and took over. Clemont is revealed to own a Magnemite, a Magneton, and a Heliolisk, which he keeps at the Gym. Clemont challenges Clembot to a battle and wins, reclaiming the Gym. Clemont modifies the program of Clembot and leaves it in charge of the Gym, and he and Bonnie continue traveling with Ash and Serena. Despite the badge restriction no longer being an issue, Ash decides to wait until he's acquired three more Gym badges before challenging the Lumiose Gym, and Clemont agrees to meet the challenge himself when the time comes.
Mega-Mega Meowth Madness!	Ash and his friends learn about Blaziken Mask, the Trainer of the Mega Blaziken that previously saved Ash. Blaziken Mask is revealed to be Meyer, Clemont and Bonnie's father. Clemont receives a Chespin from Professor Sycamore.

The Synchronicity Test!	Pre-episode Alain catches a Metang. Clemont invents a wristband-like mechanic to enhance and analyze Ash and Greninja when using the Ash-Greninja form. Ash and his friends encounter Alain again. Ash has a battle against Alain and loses. Ash has a rematch with Alain; however, it is abandoned when Ash collapses due to the strain of using the Ash-Greninja form.
Championing a Research Battle!	Olympia tells Diantha about the upcoming threat to Kalos. Ash and his friends meet up with Diantha again. Diantha informs Ash and his friends about the island that Team Flare used to experiment on in an earlier episode and about Zygarde. Ash's Greninja reaches its final Ash-Greninja form. Ash has a rematch against Diantha, which is interrupted when Ash overexerts himself during the battle and collapses with Greninja.
A Full-Strength Battle Surprise!	Pre-episode Sawyer earns three more Badges, thus bringing his total to eight and qualifying him for the Kalos League. Sawyer's Honedge evolves into Doublade. Sawyer is catches a Clawitzer. Ash and his friends meet up with Sawyer again. Ash has another battle against Sawyer and loses, suffering his first defeat to him. Ash's Noivern is revealed to have learned Dragon Claw. During the battle, Ash attempts to activate Greninja's Ash-Greninja form. However, it fails for the first time. Sawyer travels with Ash and his friends as they head towards Snowbelle City.
All Hail the Ice Battlefield!	Ash and his friends arrive in Snowbelle City. Bonnie coins the term "Ash-Greninja". Ash and his friends meet Wulfric, the Leader of the Snowbelle Gym. Ash has a Gym battle with Wulfric and loses. Sawyer leaves the group. Ash goes off by himself into the Winding Woods.
Seeing the Forest for the Trees!	Ash and Greninja perfect the Ash-Greninja form. Ash and his friends learn that the Kalos League will be held in Lumiose City.

Down to the Fiery Finish!	Ash and Alain continue their Full Battle. Alain defeats Ash, making him the winner of the Lumiose Conference. The Lumiose Conference ends. Team Flare places Z2 under their control. Z2 transforms into its 50% Forme and attacks Lumiose City. Squishy goes off by itself to encounter Z2.
A Towering Takeover!	Ash learns that Lysandre is the leader of Team Flare. Ash learns that Alain has been working for Lysandre. Meyer and his Blaziken return. Ash and his Pokémon are captured by Team Flare. Ash's friends encounter Lysandre for the first time (only on TV though). Lysandre made a brodcast announcement to all people in Lumiose City that he and his team will create a new, beautiful world by destroying Kalos using Z2. Alain learns of Lysandre's true motivation for gathering Mega Evolution energies. Ash and his friends see Squishy change into its 50% Forme for the first time and learn that Squishy is actually a Zygarde.
Coming Apart at the Dreams!	Squishy battles against Z2, but ends up getting subdued by it. Lysandre reveals to Alain his true purpose of having him collect Mega Evolution energy. Serena, Mairin, and Professor Sycamore head to Lysandre Labs to rescue Chespie, with the help of Team Rocket. Lysandre attempts to take control of Ash and Greninja, but fails. Ash frees himself from Lysandre's binds using Bond Phenomenon, with Alain helping to free his Pokémon. Alain turns against Lysandre. Clemont and Clembot defeat Bryony and Aliana, with Clembot subduing them afterwards, allowing them to infiltrate the Lumiose Gym in order to reclaim it. Team Flare places Squishy under their control. Ash and Alain begin their battle against Lysandre. Bonnie begins to run after Squishy.
The Right Hero for the Right Job!	Clembot manages to open the doors to the Lumiose Gym, allowing it and Clemont to head inside it. Clemont battles Xerosic and wins, reclaiming his Gym. Serena meets Steven for the first time. Team Rocket begin their battle against Celosia. Malva turns against and battles Lysandre. Serena, Professor Sycamore, and Mairin escape from Lysandre Labs with Chespie. Bonnie sings Puni-chan's Song to Squishy to calm it down, which frees it from Team Flare's mind control. Clembot sends Xerosic falling through a trap door in the Lumiose Gym. Clemont makes the machine controlling Z2 self-destruct, destroying Clembot in the process, at its own request. Z2 is also released from Team Flare's control.
Rocking Kalos Defenses!	Ash and Alain defeat Lysandre. Team Rocket defeats and subdues Celosia and Mable. The Giant Rock inside Lysandre Labs absorbs Chespie and takes the form of a Zygarde 50% Forme. The Giant Rock destroys Lysandre Labs and heads towards the Anistar City Sundial, threatening to cause an explosion that would destroy the world. Bonnie persuades Z2 to trust her. Ash meets up with Steven again. Ash and his friends, along with Alain, Mairin, Professor Sycamore, Blaziken Mask, Steven, Malva, and Team Rocket, follow the Giant Rock. Diantha and all the Gym Leaders of Kalos arrive to join the battle against the Giant Rock.
Forming a More Perfect Union!	Ash and Alain rescue Chespie from the Giant Rock, temporarily stopping it. Lysandre returns and gains control of the Giant Rock. Clemont and Bonnie discover that Blaziken Mask is Meyer, their father. Squishy and Z2 combine into Zygarde Complete Forme in order to battle and destroy the Giant Rock. The Giant Rock is destroyed, with Lysandre disappearing in the process, leaving his fate unknown and resulting in Team Flare's defeat. Malva decides to disband Team Flare and turn herself in. Chespie wakes up from its coma. Squishy leaves with Z2.
Battling With a Clean Slate!	The Lumiose Gym reopens. Clemont rebuilds Clembot. Ash reveals that he's planning to head back to Pallet Town once Lumiose Airport has reopened. Professor Sycamore gives medals to Ash, his friends, Alain, Mairin, and their Pokémon for their heroic efforts against Team Flare. Serena considers accepting the offer that Palermo made her earlier.
The First Day of the Rest of Your Life!	Ash and Serena have a battle, which Ash eventually calls off. Serena declines Palermo's earlier offer outright, having decided to continue traveling in order to increase her skills. On Palermo's advice, Serena decides to head to Hoenn to compete in Pokémon Contests.
Facing the Needs of the Many!	Ash's Goodra returns to its home in the wetlands. Ash learns that Lumiose Airport has reopened. Xerosic returns, intending to create Neo-Team Flare, but is defeated and arrested. Ash and his friends meet up with Squishy and Z2 again. Ash releases Greninja so that it can protect Kalos with Squishy and Z2. Bonnie promises to Squishy that she will go on another adventure with it once she becomes a Trainer.
Till We Compete Again!	Team Rocket returns to Kanto. Serena leaves the group and heads to Hoenn. Ash and Clemont have a battle, with the end result left unknown. Ash separates from Clemont and Bonnie, leaving the Kalos region and returning to Pallet Town.
SS037	Pre-episode Cilan travels to Kalos for a fishing competition held in Lumiose City. Clemont and Bonnie meet Cilan for the first time.

Alola to New Adventure!	Pre-episode Ash and his mother traveled to the Alola region. Professor Oak tasks Ash with delivering an Egg to his Alolan cousin, Samson Oak. Ash leaves all of his party Pokémon (except Pikachu) at Professor Oak's Laboratory. Ash meets Lillie, Mallow, Lana, Kiawe, and Sophocles for the first time. Ash meets Samson Oak and Professor Kukui for the first time. Ash delivers the Egg to Samson Oak. Ash encounters Team Skull for the first time. Ash learns about Z-Moves and the island challenge. Ash encounters the guardian deity of Melemele Island, Tapu Koko, for the first time. Ash receives a Z-Ring equipped with an Electrium Z from Tapu Koko. Delia returns to Pallet Town while Ash stays in Alola to study at the Pokémon School.
The Guardian's Challenge!	Sophocles's Togedemaru is revealed to have Lightning Rod as her Ability. Ash encounters Tapu Koko again, with his classmates encountering it for the first time. Ash and Pikachu have a battle against Tapu Koko, which gets called off when Tapu Koko flees. Ash and Pikachu perform Gigavolt Havoc for the first time. Ash's Electrium Z shatters. Ash decides to take on the island challenge in order to get new Z-Crystals and qualify as a Z-Move user. Ash receives a Pokédex from Professor Kukui.
SM003	Pre-episode Jessie and James leave their Gourgeist and Inkay at Team Rocket HQ. Team Rocket arrives in the Alola region, having been assigned by Giovanni to capture the region's unique Pokémon. A Rotom inhabits Ash's new Pokédex, turning it into a Rotom Pokédex. Ash tries to catch a Mimikyu, but it decides to side with Team Rocket instead. Ash's classmates encounter Team Rocket for the first time. Team Rocket changes to a new motto.
SM004	Ash tries and fails to catch a Grubbin. James is revealed to own a Luxury Ball. Jessie uses James's Luxury Ball to catch the Mimikyu Team Rocket encountered earlier. Ash catches a Rowlet.
SM005	Lana's Lapras is revealed to know Ice Beam. Ash meets Lana's sisters, Harper and Sarah, for the first time.
SM007	Ash tries to catch the recurring Litten, but eventually decides to let it go.
SM008	Samson Oak gives Ash and his classmates an Egg, which Lillie agrees to take care of. Meanwhile, Samson Oak takes responsibility of the Egg that Ash brought from Kanto. Ash's Rowlet is revealed to know Tackle and Peck. Lillie's phobia of Pokémon is slightly explained as she gained the trauma from an experience with her mother that she doesn't remember. Ash's Rowlet competes in first proper Pokémon battle.
SM009	Ash meets the Kahuna of Melemele Island, Hala, for the first time. Hala reveals that he makes Z-Rings and that Tapu Koko stole the Z-Ring equipped with Electrium Z that it gave to Ash earlier. Ash clears his first island challenge trial in the Verdant Cavern, earning a Normalium Z from the Totem Gumshoos as a reward.
SM010	Ash and Pikachu perform Breakneck Blitz for the first time. Ash battles Hala and wins, clearing the Melemele Island grand trial. Hala goes to give Ash a Fightinium Z as a reward for defeating him, but Tapu Koko switches it with an Electrium Z, which Ash receives instead.
SM011	Ash's Rowlet performs Breakneck Blitz for the first time. Ash visits Akala Island for the first time. Ash meets Kiawe's family for the first time. Kiawe's Turtonator is revealed to know Flamethrower. Ash battles Kiawe, with the end result left unknown.
SM012	Jessie and James try and fail to catch a Cloyster and Carvanha, respectively. Team Rocket decide to make Bewear's den their base of operations in Alola. James catches a Mareanie.
SM013	Lillie is revealed to have named the Egg she and her classmates have been taking care of Shiron. Lillie's Egg hatches into an Alolan Vulpix.
SM014	The Egg that Ash delivered to Samson Oak hatches into a Vulpix. Lillie catches the Alolan Vulpix that hatched in the last episode. Lillie becomes able to touch her own Pokémon.
SM015	Ash catches the Rockruff that Professor Kukui once took care of.
