Suicune (Japanese: スイクン Suicune) is a Water-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation II.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Along with Raikou and Entei, it is one of the Legendary beasts resurrected by Ho-Oh after the burning of the Brass Tower. Of the three Legendary beasts, Suicune is said to represent the rains that quenched the flames of the burning Brass Tower. It is pursued in Pokémon the Series, Pokémon Adventures, Pokémon Crystal, and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver by Eusine.
The Paradox Pokémon Walking Wake is said to be an ancient relative of Suicune.
Suicune is the game mascot of Pokémon Crystal, appearing on the boxart.
Biology
Suicune is a slim, quadrupedal, blue, mammalian Pokémon with white, diamond-shaped markings. Its face and underside are white as well. Suicune has a thick, purple mane that resembles the aurora borealis and two white, streamer-like tails that wave forward. It has a long, white snout. Suicune has a large, hexagonal, cerulean blue crest on its forehead with two prongs on either side of the base. It has red eyes, a small tuft of fur under its chin, and small paws with white paw pads.
Suicune has the power to walk across water and purify dirty water with one touch. It travels across grasslands in search of water to purify by following the north wind. Northern winds always seem to blow stronger in its presence. In Pokémon Crystal, Suicune is said to be the closest of the Legendary beasts to Ho-Oh and shares a cooperative bond with the Unown.[1] Suicune's personality is said to be heroic, serious, and calm during dangerous situations, as depicted in Drifloon On the Wind!. Suicune is believed to be both the embodiment of the north winds and compassion of pure spring waters. Suicune loves Suicune Treats made by Snacksworth, who once encountered and rode with it in the past. Walking Wake shares a resemblance to Suicune and is believed to be its ancient ancestor.
As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, Suicune can observed sleep deeply in locations where the water is clean. When Suicune awakens, it will start racing around the world once more, following the north wind to purify fouled water. Suicune is known to enjoy eating Suicune Biscuits. Suicune can be lured over to a sleeping spot using the Suicune Incense. Suicune has three different sleep styles it sleeps in, they are called Energy-Storing Sleep, Meditative Sleep, and Northern-Wind Sleep.

NPC appearances
- Pokémon Crystal: It is possible to see Suicune multiple times on the overworld — specifically in Cianwood City, outside Mt. Mortar on Route 42, and on Route 36 just beside the gate to National Park, in that order — before the actual battle in the Tin Tower. On these occasions, it will always hop away on being spotted, and then reset the event on the next route, creating an infinite loop that replicates its roaming status in Gold and Silver. Once Suicune is captured or defeated, it cannot be seen on those routes again.
- Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver: As in Crystal, Suicune will roam Johto and Kanto before finally battling the player. After being first seen in the Burned Tower, it runs to Cianwood City, Route 42, Vermilion Port, and Route 14 before becoming battleable at the end of Route 25 after defeating Misty. If it is not caught, Suicune can be found in the Burned Tower after entering the Hall of Fame again.

Major appearances
Suicune (recurring)
Suicune debuted in Don't Touch That 'dile, where Ash and his friends first encountered one as they were heading towards New Bark Town. Suicune was seen standing on a small island in a lake, appearing as a mysterious silhouette of blue energy. At first, Ash did not understand what Pokémon it was and wanted to catch it. However, Suicune leaped into the fog and vanished as soon as Ash made an attempt to battle it.
The same Suicune reappeared in For Ho-Oh the Bells Toll!. After Team Rocket had removed the Crystal Bells from Ecruteak's Tin Tower, many Bug-type Pokémon invaded the city. They wrapped Jessie, James and Meowth in a String Shot and blocked off the entry to the Tin Tower. Suicune appeared in a mystical blue light and calmed the wild Pokémon down. Seeing the Legendary Pokémon, Jessie had Arbok launch a Poison Sting, but Suicune evaded the attack and sent Team Rocket blasting off with an Aurora Beam.
Eusine wanted to catch Suicune and sent out his Alakazam to battle it. Alakazam used Disable, but Suicune easily blocked it with a Mirror Coat. It then used Roar to send Alakazam back into its Poké Ball and fled from the area before Eusine could even react. The brief encounter led Eusine to pursue Suicune, in the hopes of seeing it again one day.
Its known moves are Aurora Beam, Mirror Coat, and Roar.
In Celebi: The Voice of the Forest, a Suicune participated in the battle against Dark Celebi. It also demonstrated its ability to purify water.
A Shiny Suicune appeared with the other members of its trio in Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
In Healing the Healer!, Ash and Goh encountered a Suicune that was being targeted by a group of Pokémon hunters. Goh caught Suicune in order to save and heal it. In the end, even though the hunters were arrested and Goh attempted to release Suicune, it chose to remain under his ownership while roaming the world.
Other
In Drifloon on the Wind!, a Suicune had befriended Marnie and Paige, the daughters of a Nurse Joy. It saved Ash and Paige's lives when they fell into a deep canyon.

Melee trophy information
This mystical aurora Pokémon constantly journeys in search of places with pure flowing water. Suicune wields the power to instantly purify any contaminated water it finds. Some say Suicune is the north wind reborn. Its strange and dramatic story is told over the course of the Crystal version of the Pokémon game.
Brawl trophy information
"An Aurora Pokémon. It has the power to instantly purify even the filthiest water. Suicune is said to be the reincarnation of the northern wind, so when it shows up, so does that wind. Suicune uses the move Aurora Beam--aurora light focused into a powerful beam. Along with inflicting damage, this attack also lowers the target's attack power."
3DS/Wii U trophy information
Suicune trophy in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS
NA: A Legendary Pokémon that emerged from the ashes of the Burned Tower, Suicune is a Water-type Pokémon easily identified by its long, purple mane. In battle, it'll head toward a nearby fighter and fire an Aurora Beam all the way to the edge of the screen. If you get hit, you'll be frozen solid!
PAL: Suicune is one of the Legendary Pokémon from the Burned Tower in Ecruteak City. Its mane is said to resemble an aurora floating over it. If summoned in battle, it'll make its way straight for a nearby fighter and unleash its Aurora Beam. The target, frozen in place, is unable to resist as it's blown off the stage.
Suicune appears as a Spirit alongside Entei and Raikou.
Trivia
Concept and development
Suicune, along with Raikou and Entei, was designed by Muneo Saitō.[2][3]
When asked if Suicune was based on any particular animal, Muneo Saitō described its creation process to come together easily and fell into a motif that felt "leopard-like".[4] This design is more clearly seen in its design from the Pokémon Gold and Silver Spaceworld '97 demo, where its build is thinner and more cat-like. This design also features a more unshaven, dishevelled Suicune, with bangs covering the eyes and tail fur tied together by an orb. In the final game, Suicune is seen with a purple faceplate and more serious expression, which would be changed to the more familiar design in Pokémon Crystal.
Origin
Raikou may be partially based on a leopard. The concept of a leopard, combined with the idea of Suicune representing the north wind, may have been derived from Fūjin, the Shinto god of the wind, who wears leopard skin; additionally, numerous Shinto themes are seen across Johto, such as Mediums (known as Itako in Japanese). Its mane also looks similar to aurora. Its build, crest, and ability to walk on water bear similarities to the Qilin.
Water-type Suicune corresponds to the rain that put out the Brass Tower according to its legend; at the same time Raikou represents the lightning that struck it, and Entei represents the fire that burned it.
Name origin
Suicune may be a combination of 水 sui (water), 水晶 suishō (crystal), and 君 kun (monarch).
