Trick Room (Japanese: トリックルーム Trick Room) is a non-damaging Psychic-type move introduced in Generation IV.

It is:

Effect

Trick Room reverses the move order within each priority bracket so that Pokémon with a lower Speed stat attack first, while those with a higher Speed stat will attack last. Individual brackets are still maintained; moves in higher priority brackets still work before moves in lower ones regardless of Trick Room. This effect lasts for five turns, and using Trick Room counts as the first turn. Similar to Magic Room and Wonder Room, using Trick Room while it is already in effect will end it immediately.

Effects that alter the order of specific priority brackets override Trick Room. Therefore, Pokémon holding Full Incense or Lagging Tail and Pokémon with Stall will go last in their priority bracket regardless of their Speed stat. Pokémon activating Quick Claw will go first in their priority bracket.

Trick Room has a priority of -7, so will be used after all moves with a normal priority.

From Generation V to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, due to the way Trick Room affects Speed calculation, a quirk occurs when a Pokémon reaches effective Speed value between 1809 and the cap of 10000. The Speed is specifically calculated as such:

TrickRoomSpeed=(10000Speed)mod8192 (Speed is the Pokémon's effective Speed stat, after stat modifiers and multipliers)

As such, Pokémon with effective Speed of 1808 will have it reduced to 0, while one with effective Speed of 1 will have it increased to 1807. However, at 1809, the modulo part of the function will return 8191, causing it to move first even inside Trick Room. This value after that will decrease as expected, causing Pokémon with effective Speed of 1809 to be faster than Pokémon below and above that value, and Pokémon at an effective Speed of 10000 (the cap) to be as fast as Pokémon with effective Speed of 1808 (although reaching such high Speed values requires situations incredibly unlikely to occur in regular gameplay).

If powered up by a Psychium Z into Z-Trick Room, the user's accuracy is raised by one stage.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In the Explorers and Adventure Squad series, Trick Room targets all Pokémon on the floor and randomly increases or decreases their Movement Speed by one stage (even if already at maximum or minimum).

From Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity onward, Trick Room reverses any changes to Travel Speed. The Trick Room dungeon status lasts until the player's team progresses to the next floor. It will not affect the permanent Travel Speed boost of opposing Kecleon. Unlike the main series games, using Trick Room again does not end its effect.
