Mirror Move (Japanese: オウムがえし Parrot Mimicry) is a non-damaging Flying-type move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Generation I to VII
This move effect may be in need of research. Reason: Test if in Stadium 2 (much like in GSC), Mirror Move always fails when used by a transformed Pokémon. Account for moves that Mirror Move's "memory" ignores, such as Role Play, in each generation (refer to Smogon for Gen IV). And any other things Smogon mentions that aren't accounted here. Also, check whether this line applies to both Pokémon Stadium (Japanese) and the international Pokémon Stadium: "In Pokémon Stadium, Mirror Move will copy multi-turn moves during either of the turns they take to execute." You can discuss this on the talk page. |
Mirror Move uses the last move targeted at the user by a Pokémon still on the field. A move called by Mirror Move in this way counts as the last move used. Moves that target multiple Pokémon count as long as the user of Mirror Move is one of the targets.
Mirror Move will fail if no moves were targeted at the user (by a Pokémon still on the field) before the use of Mirror Move, if the user of the move that would be called by Mirror Move switches out during the turn Mirror Move is used, or if Mirror Move would call itself, a Shadow move, or a Z-Move. In Generation II only, Mirror Move will also always fail when used by a transformed Pokémon.
Paralysis, confusion, recharging, and building up for a multi-turn move have no effect on the last move used; if Mirror Move is used against a target that was fully paralyzed, hurt itself in confusion, or executed the first part of a multi-turn move right before its use, Mirror Move will not count this as using a move. In Pokémon Stadium, Mirror Move will copy multi-turn moves during either of the turns they take to execute.
A Pokémon will be able to use a move that is disabled if it is called via Mirror Move.
Mirror Move can be also used on teammates. If used on a move like Rock Slide that can only target opponents, Mirror Move will use it without hurting allies.
If powered up by a Flyinium Z into Z-Mirror Move, the user's Attack stat rises by two stages. Additionally, the copied move will become its corresponding Z-Move. If the copied move is a status move, it will not receive its Z-Power effect.
Generation VIII onwards
Mirror Move cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
In the Rescue Team, Explorers and Adventure Squad series, Mirror Move gives the user the Mirror Move status, which causes all enemy moves targeting it to be reflected back at the attacker instead, without being affected by them. Mirror Move only reflects the effect the move would have on the user, rather than its usage; for example, moves with multiple targets will still hit the other original targets. Mirror Move does not return regular attacks, if the attacker is not adjacent, if the move has already been bounced back, or if it was cutting a corner. The status lasts for 2-5 turns.
From Gates to Infinity onward, Mirror Move instead targets an enemy in front and uses the enemy's last used move against them. Mirror Move fails if there is no move to copy.
