It is related to Carbink, being a mutation of the species.
Diancie was leaked in the March 2014 issue of CoroCoro magazine on February 11, 2014, and it was officially revealed on February 14, 2014. Mega Diancie was leaked in the July 2014 issue of CoroCoro magazine on June 7, 2014, and it was officially revealed on June 12, 2014.
Diancie is a small Pokémon with a vaguely humanoid appearance. Its lower body is a conical, gray rock with a large, pink diamond sprouting from the left side. Its upper body and arms are covered by a white, fluffy material that somewhat resembles a dress. Its arms end in gray, mitten-like hands, and its gray head has purple eyes surrounded by red sclarae and pointed ears. Diancie's most distinctive feature is its headdress, composed of a collection of pink crystals with different shapes and sizes: on its forehead, a big, rounded crystal is the centerpiece, backed by four spike-like crystals. Two long, obelisk-like crystals hang down from either side of the back of its head, resembling ponytails. There is a golden, necklace-like ornament with a pink diamond around its neck, a small golden piece hanging off the rounded crystal, and a small pink diamond embedded on the back of its head.
Diancie is the result of a spontaneous mutation of Carbink; the exact mechanism and probability of such an event happening, however, are still unknown.[1] Possibly due to this, groups of Carbink tend to gather around it, but Diancie pays little attention to them. By compressing the carbon in the atmosphere with its hands, it can instantly create diamonds, which it uses to both attack and defend itself.[2] The symmetry of Diancie's body enables it to absorb light with a perfect balance and display a marvellous radiance;[3]Emma compares it to the Anistar CitySundial.[4] Accordingly, it is said to be the loveliest sight in the whole world and one of the most beautiful Pokémon in existence. Legends speak about Diancie as a guardian Pokémon that protects its travel partners from any ill events.[5] Due to its status as a Mythical Pokémon, little is known about its habitat, but the movieDiancie and the Cocoon of Destruction depicts it living in an underground cave filled with diamonds, the Diamond Domain; also, according to the movie, Diancie can speak through telepathy.
As a result of Mega Evolution, Mega Diancie's lower body turns into a pink, diamond-shaped crystal with a golden ring with equidistant, claw-like hooks around the girdle. From the diamond's crown, a thin, pastel pink veil and a series of long, obelisk-chaped crystals extend downwards, covering the sides and back of its lower body, with the crystals on the back growing much longer. The white, fluffy material on its torso becomes longer, now covering the entire diameter of the diamond's girdle, loses its sleeves, and gains a golden ornament around the waist. The tips of the necklace-like ornament around its neck curve outward. The centerpiece of Mega Diancie's headdress is bigger and heart-shaped and has two long, obelisk-shaped crystals dropping down from either side, resembling a pair of long earrings; the remaining crystals of its headdress are smaller and further apart. On the back of its head, two small gems are embedded, and another long crystal drops down between them. Two lengthy ribbons grow out from this pair of gems, and each have two small crystals floating at the tips. Similarly, the long crystals covering the back of Mega Diancie's lower body and the ones on its head end in smaller, floating crystals.
Mega Diancie no longer has any impurities on the surface of its body, causing it to shine so brightly that when reflecting light, one cannot look directly at it. Due to its noble beauty,[6] it has been referred to as the "Royal Pink Princess". The diamond on its forehead has 2,000 carats. Mega Diancie has been shown to be able of wielding a sword made out of its own diamonds.
Diancie possesses a wondrous power that allows it to compress carbon molecules in the air into diamonds! When we saw it living happily with Carbink, it looked just like a princess.
Diancie debuted in this chapter, where it was mentioned by Gurkinn as he was escaping the destruction of the Tower of Mastery in Heracross Transforms. It was sought after by the owner of the Shabboneau Castle, who sent his butlers out to obtain Diancie in Glittering Diancie. One of the butlers, actually a thief, found Diancie and attempted to steal it. With the help of Gurkinn, Diantha, and Korrina, the thief was defeated and sent running away. Afterward, Diancie left with its Carbink companions to find a new home.
Mega Diancie has the highest base Special Attack stat of all Rock-type Pokémon, as well as the highest base Attack stat of all Fairy-type Pokémon. Mega Diancie is also tied with:
Mega Tyranitar for the highest base stat total of all Rock-type Pokémon.
Crowned Sword Zacian for the highest base stat total of all Fairy-type Pokémon.
Mega Diancie's Defense and Special Defense decrease is the largest single stat decrease of all Mega Evolutions, at 40 points.
Diancie's origin as a mutated Carbink is reflected in its near-identical moveset and learn rate, though it learns Trick Room instead of Power Gem in Generation VI.
Diancie's Pokédex entry on the official English Pokémon website erroneously stated that its gender can be either male or female, despite the fact that it is actually a gender unknown Pokémon; Mega Diancie is correctly stated to be gender unknown.[7] This error has been fixed as of September 2024.[8]
This error is absent in the Japanese Pokémon Zukan website.[9]
Diancie is the only Pokémon in Pokémon GO capable of Mega Evolution to not have its Shiny form available. It is also the only one to have not been available in Mega Raids at any point.
Origin
Diancie could be based on the carbuncle, a mythical fairy-like creature that was rumored to have a jewel embedded on its forehead. Diancie could also be a visual pun derived from the idea of a "princess cut" diamond, referring to its princess-like appearance, although the diamond on the forehead resembles a brilliant cut in its base form and a heart cut in its Mega Evolved form. Its relationship with Carbink may be inspired by eusociality, a biological phenomenon which usually manifests in a colony of animals having a sole breeding female, or queen, tended to by her usually infertile offspring; or an example of a highly rare and unique mutations such as albinism or polydactyly. Alternatively, the transformation from Carbink to Diancie could reference metamorphic rock formation. Diancie, and its Mega Form, could possibly be analogous to various depictions of magical girls across various series. Mega Diancie in particular, being a powered up form, could potentially be compared to a typical magical girl transformation or a powered up super forms often seen in various properties.
Name origin
Diancie may be a combination of diamond, fancy, pixie, and 石 ishi (stone). The -cie could also come from メレシー Melecie (Carbink's Japanese name), reflecting Diancie’s status as a mutated Carbink.
