Giga Drain (Japanese: ギガドレイン Giga Drain) is a damage-dealing Grass-type move introduced in Generation II.
It is:
- TM19 from Generation II to Generation IV, and in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
- TM28 in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
- TM111 in Generation IX.
It is the strongest in a line of three Grass-type HP draining attacks, the other two being Absorb and Mega Drain.
Effect
Generation II
Giga Drain inflicts damage, and up to 50% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user as HP. If this attack deals 1 HP of damage, 1 HP will be restored to the user.
The base PP of Giga Drain is 5 in this generation, and its base power is 60.
Giga Drain will always fail against a substitute.
Generation III
Giga Drain can now hit a substitute and will properly heal the user when damaging a substitute. When used on a Pokémon with the Liquid Ooze Ability, the user will lose the amount of HP it would have gained instead.
Giga Drain can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 2 bonus appeal points if Growth was used in the previous turn.
Giga Drain is no longer affected by King's Rock.
Generation IV
The move's base PP was raised to 10. If the user is holding a Big Root, the HP restored is increased by 30% (making the restored HP 65% of the damage dealt). Big Root does not increase the damage dealt.
Generation V
Giga Drain's base power has been increased from 60 to 75.
Giga Drain is now affected by King's Rock.
Generation VI onwards
Giga Drain cannot be used if the user is under the effects of Heal Block.

Giga Drain inflicts damage, and 50% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user as HP, including excess damage. In Adventure Squad only, the move heals by 20% of dealt damage instead. In Gates to Infinity only, the user will heal based on how much HP the target lost, and excess damage is not accounted for.

Pokémon UNITE
In Pokémon UNITE, Giga Drain is Venusaur's first move after reaching Ivysaur stage at level 5 and upgrading Seed Bomb into it instead of Sludge Bomb. The user emits a cone-shaped blast in the designated direction, damaging enemies and restoring health when it hits. The user also takes 35% reduced damage for a short time. This move's healing is not increased by the user's passive. At level 13, the healing is increased.
