Scovillain is a monstrous, bipedal Pokémon. It has two bell pepper-like heads, each connected to its torso through a green, stem-like neck. While, typically, the right head is red and the left head is light green, the Pokémon Horizons: The Series episode The Knight in the Ruins revealed that, on rare occurrences, a Scovillain's heads may have the opposite color scheme or even be of the same color. The red head is depicted with an angry expression, while the light green head appears more mischievous. Both of its heads have black eyes, stick their orange tongues out, and possess short, white fangs, with the bottom pairs jutting out below their jaws. Its upper body and arms are green, and its lower body and short tail are dark green. Scovillain has a leafy growth similar to a collar at the point where the necks connect to the torso, and each of its feet end in a clawed toe.
Scovillain is described as a ferocious Pokémon whose rampage is unstoppable. The spicy chemicals in its brain stimulate both heads, turning the green head vicious while providing a source for the red head to convert into spicy, fiery energy, which it blasts its surroundings with. Scovillain's two heads have different aggressive personalities, and each head excels at different fighting styles. Despite these conflicting personalities, they act in perfect harmony and balance on the battlefield.
As a result of Mega Evolution, Mega Scovillain takes on a more villainous, dinosaur-like aspect. Both of its heads are more rugged and adorned with white spikes: the red head has a single row of four spikes running through the middle, while the light green head has four spikes divided between two rows above each eye, as well as two more on either side of its lower jaw. Its fangs are bigger and sharper, and its tongues have grown to the point of not fitting inside its mouths anymore. Mega Scovillain's upper body, collar, necks, and arms have turned black, resembling a business suit with a popped collar. From the middle of its collar, a jagged, glowing, necktie-like structure similar to a chili pepper hangs down. Its lower body is much bulkier, and its tail is longer as well, with three spikes near the tip. Above each of its clawed toes, there is a small spike, and the surrounding area is a darker green.
Mega Scovillain's spiciness has been further increased by Mega Evolution. In battle, it swings its pepper-like necktie to whack at its enemies.
A Scovillain appeared in The Knight in the Ruins, under the ownership of Pepper. It had ran away from its Trainer due to his constant use of the Strong Sphere, which caused it to enter a Laquium-induced rampage, forcing Liko to subdue it in battle before having Pagogo purify it.
Excluding Legendary Pokémon, whose names are often the same in all localizations of Pokémon games, Scovillain is the only Generation IX Pokémon whose English and Japanese names are the same.
Mega Scovillain is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 586.
Origin
Scovillain seems to be based on a chili pepper plant. The red head seems to be based on a ripe, mature chili, while the green head seems to represent an immature chili that is not as pungent. The shape of the heads seems to be based on the habanero (as alluded to by its Japanese category) or the Carolina Reaper (the spiciest chili in the world at the time of debut).
Scovillain's red head being the only one to produce spicy and fire energy may allude to the Padrón pepper, a variety of pepper cultivated in Galicia, Spain. The flavor of these peppers can vary from mild to very spicy, which has given way to the Galician saying "Os pementos de Padrón, uns pican e outros non" ("Padrón peppers, some are hot, some are not"). Scovillain's appearance and behavior also suggest inspiration from villains in Western films; in particular, its typical stance recalls the classic hands-on-belt pose common among cowboys and the gunslinger's pre-duel stance before a showdown. All of this, together with its Paldean origin, may reference Spain's role as a major filming location for many iconic Spaghetti Westerns.
Its polarized expressions may be based on the sock and buskin theater masks, with the green and red heads representing Thalia (muse of comedy) and Melpomene (muse of tragedy), respectively.
Mega Scovillain seems to be wearing a suit jacket and a necktie. The "necktie" also resembles a stylized chili pepper. Its spikes help give it the appearance of a dinosaur or a kaiju.
Name origin
Scovillain may be a combination of Scoville (as in the Scoville scale, the measurement scale for chili pepper pungency) and villain.
