Throat Chop (Japanese: じごくづき Hell Thrust) is a damage-dealing Dark-type move introduced in Generation VII. It was TR95 in Generation VIII, and is TM221 in Generation IX. In Pokémon Sun and Moon, it was one of the signature moves of Incineroar, but other Pokémon could still inherit it via breeding.

Effect

This move effect may be in need of research.
Reason:
  • Does Throat Chop fail when used on a Pokémon already affected by Throat Chop?
  • If a Pokémon affected by Throat Chop attempts to use a sound-based move and fails, does that spend any PP?
  • If a confused Pokémon affected by Throat Chop attempts to use a sound-based move, is it still possible to hit itself from confusion or will the move always fail regardless of confusion?
  • Is Throat Chop's effect transferable by Baton Pass?
  • Can the affected Pokémon still use a sound-based move through Mirror Move or Mimic?
You can discuss this on the talk page.

Throat Chop inflicts damage and prevents the target from using sound-based moves for two turns. Status Z-Moves are unaffected by this effect.

If the only moves that would be usable by an affected Pokémon are sound-based moves, it will use Struggle until the effect ends.
