Headbutt (Japanese: ずつき Headbutt) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation I.
Effect
Generation I
Headbutt does damage and has a 30% chance of causing the target to flinch.
Headbutt can't make a target with a Substitute flinch.
In the second generation of games, Headbutt can be used in the field to shake small trees, sometimes causing a wild Pokémon to drop out. Depending on the time of day, the Pokémon which falls out may be asleep. Some Pokémon can only be caught by this method (e.g Pineco, Heracross) as well as being found in trees in certain areas.
Headbutt was no longer usable in the field, as in Generation I.
In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, the effect of Headbutt is the same as in Generation III.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the ability to headbutt trees outside of battle to find wild Pokémon returned, although certain wild Pokémon being asleep depending on the time of day did not. After the National Pokédex is acquired non-regional Pokémon from Hoenn or Sinnoh can also be found using this method.
Pokémon available
Pokémon are grouped by either Forest or Mountain.
- Forest locations are: Azalea Town, Ilex Forest, National Park, Lake of Rage, Route 26, 27, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39
- Mountain locations are: Route 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 42, 43, 44

Some of these Pokémon can only be encountered in one tree in one location. These trees are usually hidden, or only accessible via an HM like Rock Climb.
