Trivia
- Weedle's Yellow sprite is the first sprite to clearly show that Weedle has feet, however a close look at Weedle's Red, Blue, and Green sprites show tiny stubs of feet.
- Weedle resembles a Wiggler from Super Mario World.
- Up until Pokémon Platinum, Weedle was completely unable to damage Steel-type Pokémon because the only damaging move it could learn was Poison Sting, and Steel-types are immune to Poison-type. In Platinum, Weedle is given Bug Bite via level-up, and Snore by tutoring, allowing it to do damage, however, it won't be very effective.
Origin
Weedle appears to be based on a larva, the baby form of a bee.
Name origin
Weedle's name appears to be a misspelling of weevil, but this is not likely, considering the difference between the two. Its name is more likely a combination of worm and needle, which refers to the stingers on its body. Beedle is similar, but refers to bees instead.
In other languages
- German: Hornliu - Refers to the stringer on Weedle's head.
- French: Aspicot - An asticot is a sort of caterpillar, picot means dot (referring to the circles on its body) and pic means point.
- Korean: 뿔충이 Ppulchungi - "Horned Insect' in an affectionate manner ('i' at the end).
- Chinese (Taiwan): 獨角蟲 Dú Jîau Chóng - "Single-horned bug".
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 獨角蟲 Dú Jîa Chóng - "Single-horned bug".
