Trivia
- Bayleef is the tallest of any of the second-stage evolutions of the starters.
- In Generation II front sprites, the hole in its leaf is at the top. In later generations, the front sprites change this to be in the bottom of the leaf. Only the front sprites are affected; the back sprites always show the hole on the same side of the leaf.
- Like Chikorita, Bayleef's Pokémon Gold and Silver sprites show it having a peach body while its official artwork and later sprites show it having a yellow body.
- The leaves around Bayleef's neck have changed in size. In Gold and Silver, the leaves around its neck were very long compared to all later sprites.
- Bayleef's "necklace" is also consistently described as having a spicy aroma, while real bay leaves have a bitter and herbal taste, similar to thyme.
Origin
This Pokémon is based on sauropods, most notably the apatosaurus.
Name origin
Bayleef's name is a misspelling of the word bay leaf, a herb.
