Trivia
- While Prinplup's pre-evolved form, Piplup, can learn Pound, Prinplup and Empoleon learn Tackle instead.
Origin
Prinplup is seemingly based on a macaroni penguin.
Name origin
Its English name comes from "prince" and "plup", the sound of hitting the water. Its Japanese name uses the same pun; it is a combination of the words ぽちゃぽちゃ pochapocha, meaning both to splash in water and to have a plump appearance, and 皇太子 kōtaishi, crown prince - in reference to its evolution into an emperor penguin of sorts.
