Luxio (Japanese: ルクシオ Luxio) is an Electric-type Pokémon.
It evolves from Shinx starting at level 15, and evolves into Luxray starting at level 30.
Biology
Physiology
Luxio is sometimes referred to as looking like a young lion. It has a black mane around its face, unlike its pre-evolution, Shinx. It also has two yellow rings around each of its front legs, whereas Shinx only has one around each.
Gender differences
The tufts of hair in a male Luxio's mane are longer than those of the female. Similar to Shinx, the portions of blue on a Luxio's hind legs are longer for females.
Special abilities
Behavior
Luxio communicate among each other using electrical pulses from their claws.
Habitat
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
In the wild, Shinx, Luxio, and Luxray generally hunt for food. Evidence of this is plainly given in Luxray's Pokédex entry: "It has eyes that can see through anything... it can spot prey hidden behind solid objects."
In the anime
Luxio appeared in the movie The Rise of Darkrai. It was among the Pokémon in the garden. Luxio seemed to be shy, as it hesitated before it ran to Ash and his friends' Pokémon. It participated in the short-lived massive fight.
It also made a brief cameo at the beginning of Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
In Leading a Stray!, a Luxio helped a Wailmer that was trapped in the sewers and the Wailmer made it back into the ocean safely and also it evolved into a Wailord.

Trivia
Origin
Luxio is based on an adolescent lion.
Name origin
The name "Luxio" comes from the Latin lux, which means light, and a corruption of leo, which means lion. Also, the Karnak temple complex in Luxor, Egypt has a famous avenue of sphinxes. If Luxio's name is derived from the origin of its pre-evolution Shinx, then both its name and Luxray's name may take root in this temple.
