Whismur (Japanese: ゴニョニョ Gonyonyo) is a Normal-type Pokémon.

It evolves into Loudred starting at level 20, who evolves into Exploud starting at level 40.

Contents

Biology

Physiology

It has a spherical, mauve-colored body with two stubby arms. Its ears are long and rabbit-like with yellow tips, and it has a small, plug-like tail with a yellow crescent marking above it at its back. Whismur appears to have three holes, one beneath each of its ears and one on its tail.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Due to breathing through its ear canals, it has no need to breathe and thus can cry continually. For this reason, it stops screaming if its ear covers are shut.

Behavior

Normally Whismur make murmurs that are only barely audible, but Whismur are scared very easily, and often use their shrill cries to try and scare off other wild Pokémon. And once it screams, its cries scare it into crying harder, eventually exhausting itself to sleep.

Habitat

Whismur like tall grass, but prefer caves like the Desert Underpass and the Rusturf Tunnel.

Team Rocket captured a trio of Whismur to perform for Giovanni in Gotta Dance!!.

  • Though its name suggests that is very soft, it can learn Hyper Voice by level up.

Origin

Whismur is based on the concept of a whisper or murmur. It also appears to be based on a rabbit or a stuffed animal.

Name origin

Whismur's name is based on whisper and murmur, both of which mean speaking in a very soft voice.

Gonyonyo is based on ごにょごにょ gonyogonyo, the sound of mumbling, murmuring, or whispering.

In other languages

  • French: Chuchmur - From chuchoter (whisper) and murmur.
  • Korean: 소곤룡 Sogonryong
