Biology
Physiology
Azumarill's long ears are indispensable sensors. By focusing its hearing, this Pokémon can identify what kinds of prey are around, even in rough and fast-running rivers. The bubble-like pattern on its stomach helps it camouflage itself when it's in the water.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
By keeping still and listening intently, it can tell what is in even wild, fast-moving rivers. Azumarill can make balloons out of air. It makes these air balloons if it spots a drowning Pokémon. The air balloons enable the Pokémon in trouble to breathe.
Behavior
It lives in water virtually all day long. When it plays in water, it rolls up its elongated ears to prevent their insides from getting wet. If it spots a drowning Pokémon, it will make air balloons to help it breathe.

Trivia
- Azumarill is the only final form of a baby Pokémon that evolves by level alone.
- Azumarill is one of the few Pokémon that can learn the three solely tail-based moves via leveling up and TMs, they being Tail Whip, Iron Tail, and Aqua Tail.
Origin
It may be based on a combination of a rabbit and a beach ball.
Name origin
Azumarill's name may be a combination of azure, a shade of blue or azul, blue in Spanish and Portuguese, marine, of the water (Possibly mar, Sea in Spanish and Portuguese), and rill, a small river or brook. Marill could also be a contraction of marine blue. Its Japanese name may be a combination of 丸い marui, round or circular, or 鞠 mari, ball, and 瑠璃 ruri, lapis lazuli.
