Characteristics

Defensively, the Electric-type is a somewhat useful type. Some outliers benefit from their typing (Magnezone, Zapdos and Lanturn) and can be incredibly bulky. It is also the only type that, when unpaired, has some resistances and only one weakness. A large problem is the prevalence of Earthquake which is a very common physical move. Plus, not only are most of the types Electric resists rarely used offensively, but Rotom and Zapdos are the only Pokémon without the Electric type's Ground weakness. However, many Electric types can use Magnet Rise, thus giving them temporary immunity to Ground-type moves.

Offensively, the Electric-type is also only somewhat useful. Flying and Water are fairly common types. Most Water types can also learn Ice attacks to counter it's other weakness which often leaves Electric as the only key type against them. However, there are 2 other types that can also be used super effectivly against Flying and part Ground Water types can be used to rid Water of it's Electric weakness.

When used in contests, Electric-type moves typically become Cool moves, but can be of three other contest types. None are of the Tough type.

In total, there are 29 Pokémon with the Electric-type.

Trivia

  • In the anime, the Electric-type has had some degree of exclusivity with Ash, as his Pikachu was the only Electric-type Pokémon owned by a main character up until Dawn captured Pachirisu in Twice Smitten, Once Shy.
  • Each Electric-type Gym Leader is seen wearing a military-style outfit; Lt. Surge wears a uniform reminiscent of that of Vietnam soldiers, Wattson wears what appears to be an aviator's jacket, and Volkner wears what appears to be a military uniform similar to that of the dress uniform of Turkish troops.
  • Every generation has introduced Electric-type Pokémon whose names begin with the letters E, M, and P.
  • In Generation III, all Electric moves were Cool moves except for Charge.
  • There is yet to be a Pokémon with double resistance to the Electric-type, though there are multiple types which do resist it.
