Biology

Physiology

Sentret has a big round body with stubby arms and two small feet. It has a striped tail which it uses to stand on to see if there is danger nearby. It has long black ears and a white ring on its belly.

Special abilities

Sentret are able to stand on their tails. They do this to find out whether there is any danger nearby and also to warn others of possible danger. Their shrieks warn all Pokémon in the neighbourhood of any possible danger.

Trivia

  • Sentret's Gold, Silver, and Crystal sprites are a dark brown, while the later sprites are much lighter.
  • In each region, there is a two-stage Normal-type Pokémon encountered early in the region. Sentret is the Johto variation on this theme that also includes Rattata (Kanto), Zigzagoon (Hoenn), and Bidoof (Sinnoh).
    • Out of these Pokémon, Sentret has the lowest base stat total.
  • Generation II is the only Generation where Sentret's starting move is Tackle. The next two generations have replaced Sentret's starting move with Scratch.
  • So far, none of Sentret's sprites have it standing on its hind legs.

Origin

Despite its name, its behavior and markings are more similar to meerkats than ferrets. It also shares traits with flying squirrels, sugar gliders and raccoons.

Name origin

Sentret's name is a combination of ferret and sentry. Its Japanese name is a combination of 尾 o (tail) and 立ち tachi stand or 鼬 itachi weasel.

In other languages

  • German: Wiesor - Most likely from Wiese (meadow) and visor, or from Wiesel (weasel).
  • French: Fouinette - From fouine (beech marten).
  • Korean: 꼬리선 Kkoriseon
