This is a list of Pokémon in the order dictated by the Galar regional Pokédex, meaning that the first partner Pokémon from Galar will appear first, followed by Pokémon native to the Galar region. There are 400 numbered Pokémon in the Galar Pokédex. More Pokémon have been added to Pokémon Sword and Shield via patches released to coincide with the release of the games' two expansions, in which the new Pokémon were included in the Isle of Armor Pokédex and Crown Tundra Pokédex, respectively.
Only Pokémon in the Galar, Isle of Armor, and Crown Tundra Pokédexes, as well as a select few outside of the aforementioned Pokédexes, can be transferred from Pokémon HOME to Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Compatible Pokémon not in any Sword and Shield Pokédex
The following 80 Pokémon are not in the Galar Pokédex, Isle of Armor Pokédex, or Crown Tundra Pokédex, but can still be obtained in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Some can only be obtained by transferring them from Pokémon HOME.

These 26 Pokémon also have Sword and Shield Pokédex entries, but they can only be viewed in Pokémon HOME. All of them have been theoretically compatible since Version 1.0.0, but only Mew could be obtained (via the Poké Ball Plus programmed serial code) until Version 1.1.0 due to HOME's release coming after Version 1.1.0.

Compatible Pokémon formerly not in any Sword and Shield Pokédex
These Pokémon were compatible with Pokémon Sword and Shield in an earlier version than the one which added them to one of the Sword and Shield Pokédexes.
Galarian Slowpoke was added to Pokémon Sword and Shield in Version 1.1.0. All other Pokémon on this list were compatible with Sword and Shield in Version 1.0.0, but were not made available until Pokémon HOME's release. All of the Pokémon on this list had Sword and Shield Pokédex entries viewable in HOME prior to them being viewable in Sword and Shield.

Trivia
- The three Galar Pokédexes combined contain the most species of Pokémon of all regions, with a total of 584.
- Of the 400 Pokémon in the main Galar Pokédex, 176 exclusively appear in the main landmass of Galar. 89 also appear in the Isle of Armor, 123 also appear in the Crown Tundra, and 12 appear in both DLC areas.
- The seven Pokémon evolutionary lines that appear in all three Galar Pokédexes are Magikarp, Barboach, Karrablast, Shelmet, Skwovet, Pincurchin, and Morpeko.
- Some forms that can be registered in the Galar Pokédex were not present in the game until the release of The Isle of Armor expansion, namely Pikachu's World Cap form and the Gigantamax forms of Rillaboom, Cinderace, and Inteleon.
- The West Sea forms of Shellos and Gastrodon are the only Pokémon able to be registered in a Pokédex in Pokémon Sword and Shield that cannot be obtained without transferring them from Pokémon HOME.
