Waterfall (Japanese: たきのぼり Cascade Ascent) is a damage-dealing Water-type move introduced in Generation I. It was the first move to gain HM status in a generation after it was introduced, doing so in Generation II.

Waterfall does damage.

Generation IV

Along with damage, Waterfall also has a 10% chance of causing flinching.

Allows players to climb waterfalls. Note that in Generations II and III, the HM move Waterfall is not required to go down waterfalls, whereas Generation IV requires the HM.

Trivia

  • Since Waterfall is a physical move in Generation IV, the Pokémon with the strongest Waterfall is Gyarados (Rayquaza and Dragonite have a higher Attack, but they don't get STAB).
  • Waterfall is one of the two HM moves learned by some Pokémon by leveling them up.
