Bullet Seed (Japanese: タネマシンガン Seed Machine Gun) is a damage-dealing Grass-type multi-hit move introduced in Generation III.

Contents

Effect

Generation III

Bullet Seed does damage, hitting 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. Each attack made has an equal chance to land a critical hit.

Taking the average number of hits into account, Bullet Seed could be considered to have an effective power of 30.

Bullet Seed will end immediately if it breaks a Substitute. Bide and Counter will only acknowledge the last hit of this move.

Generation IV

Its effect is the same as Generation III, except that it will continue attacking after a Substitute is broken.

Due to the introduction of the ability Skill Link, a Pokémon with said ability will always hit for the maximum number of possible hits when using Bullet Seed; assuming the absence of accuracy and evasion modifiers. However, no Pokémon can naturally obtain Skill Link and Bullet Seed until Generation V.

Generation V

Its effect is still the same, however its Base Power increases from 10 to 25. Unlike previous generations, if Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activate before the last hit is dealt, the following hit will cause the defending Pokémon to faint; however, Focus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting. Each hit will cause Weak Armor to activate.

Taking the average number of hits into account, Bullet Seed could be considered to have an effective power of 75 in Generation V.
