Milotic is an aquatic, serpentine Pokémon with a primarily cream-colored body. It has red eyes with long, pinkish antennae above them. Additionally, there are long, hair-like fins above its eyes, which begin thin and thicken towards the tips. These eyebrows extend to almost half of Milotic's body length, and will be longer on the female than the male. On top of its relatively small head is straight spike. Running down either side of its neck are three black dots, similar to gills. Its lower body was a patterning of blue and pink, diamond-shaped scales outlined with black. The tail consists of four large, blue fins with pink ovals in their centers. Each of the tail fins overlaps the next slightly, causing it to resemble a fan. While it has not been depicted, Milotic's scales are said to change color depending on the viewing angle.

Milotic is said to be the most beautiful of all Pokémon. When there are fights going on, it has the power to calm angry feelings and end arguments by releasing a wave of energy. In addition, it can move by floating in the air as shown in the anime. It lives at the bottom of List of Pokémon by habitat
Milotic is said to be the most beautiful of all Pokémon. In fact, it is said to have inspired many artists in their works. However, there are Trainers who prefer Feebas over it, seemingly disappointed after it evolves from said Pokémon. When there are fights going on, it has the power to calm angry feelings and end arguments by releasing a wave of energy. In addition, it can move by floating in the air as shown in the twelfth Pokémon movie. It lives at the bottom of List of Pokémon by habitat.

Evolution
Evolution data
Milotic evolves from Feebas when leveled up with its Beautiful condition high enough. Starting from Generation V, it also evolves from Feebas when traded while holding a Prism Scale.

In games in which Pokémon Contests are absent, condition stats are hidden, but a Feebas that has enough Beauty points will still evolve when it is leveled up. The Prism Scale, introduced in Generation V, was created due to the fact that there is no legitimate way to raise a Feebas's Beauty in the Generation V games, whereas in FireRed and LeafGreen, the player could trade Feebas to Ruby and Sapphire, or Emerald; and in HeartGold and SoulSilver, a haircut or grooming by Daisy Oak or the haircut brothers affects Beauty, though this cannot raise Feebas's Beauty if its sheen is too high.

Trivia
Trivia
* In the anime, all of the Milotic that appeared were under the ownership of a Pokémon Coordinator or a Frontier Brain.
* In the official Prima Strategy Guide for Ruby and Sapphire, Milotic's Ability was mistakenly listed as Torrent.
* In the official Prima Strategy Guide for Ruby and Sapphire, Milotic was erroneously stated to have the Torrent Ability.
* Milotic seems to be a counterpart of Gyarados. Both are the serpentine evolved forms of weak fish Pokémon, and both appear in times of conflict, Milotic to calm, Gyarados to destroy. Both have base stat totals of 540, sharing the same HP, Defense, and Speed stats with Attack, Special Attack and Special Defense stats sharing the same values but in a different arrangement.
* In many ways, Milotic is the counterpart of Gyarados. Both are the serpentine evolved forms of weak fish Pokémon, and both appear in times of conflict, Milotic to becalm, Gyarados to destroy. Both have base stat totals of 540, the only difference being the distribution of their Attack, Special Attack and Special Defense stats.
** Milotic may also be a parallel of Gyarados oriented to Pokémon Contests, since it was introduced in the third generation where Pokémon Contests debuted. This is supported by Milotic's emphasis being on its beauty, while Gyarados' emphasis is on its power. In addition, Milotic is strongly associated with Pokémon Contests in Pokémon the Series; all known male Top Coordinators have a Milotic as their signature Pokémon.
** It is also possible it is meant to be a Contest version of Gyarados - because Gyarados was introduced in the first generation, and Milotic was introduced in the third generation with Pokémon Contests. This is fortified by Milotic's emphasis being on its beauty, while Gyarados' emphasis is on its power.
* Milotic is tied with Gyarados for the greatest increase in base stat total after evolving, at 340 points.
* Milotic is tied with Gyarados for the greatest increase in base stat total after evolving, at 340 points.
* Milotic is the only Pokémon in the Mystery Dungeon WiiWare games that is unobtainable without evolving a Pokémon in some way be that by a Feebas getting a KO as an enemy Pokémon or by evolving it normally, if Pal Passwords are excluded.
* In , it is possible to evolve Feebas into Milotic without trading, even though no Poffin can be obtained and used in the game. This is done by visiting the Haircut brothers in Goldenrod or by talking to Daisy in order to groom Feebas, which not only helps to raise its friendship, but also raises its Beauty. This is subtly stated by the brothers and Daisy in the games, but cannot be checked unless the Feebas is traded to Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. However, this cannot raise Feebas's Beauty if its Sheen is too high.
* Exclusively in Japanese Platinum, a Shiny female Milotic has blue antennas in its front sprite due to a colouring error. This is corrected in every other version of Platinum. This makes Milotic the only Pokémon to have a gender difference exclusive to its Shiny form.
* Milotic, along with Espeon and Umbreon, is the only Pokémon which has multiple manners of being evolved from its pre-evolved form in the main series.
** Unlike the case with Eevee in , which cannot evolve into Espeon or Umbreon its normal way due to a lack of in-game clock, a Feebas that has maximum Beauty (via transfer from Generation IV) can still be evolved by leveling it up in Generation V, as Beauty, while a hidden stat like the rest of the Contest conditions, still exists in the data structure of each Pokémon.

Origin
Origin
Milotic may be based loosely on sirens, mythical creatures who can hypnotize with their voice to make men attracted to them. Another possibility is Loch Ness Monster and popular culture. Its similarity to Dragonair suggests a basis in sea serpents or sea dragons as well. It has anatomical similarities with the oarfish, with a pale, elongated body and extended, red dorsal fins.
Milotic seems to be based on a sea serpent and a mermaid due to its hair-like fins, pale upper body, and scaly lower body. It is also similar to an oarfish, which have very long bodies and red fins. Its gills are similar to those of Cyclostomata. Its tail fin resembles a hand fan, and its colorful scales resemble stained glass. Its feminine appearance and history of being depicted in art indicate that it may be inspired by Venus (mythology), the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Its drastic transformation after evolving from Feebas may be inspired by the classic fairy tale The Ugly Duckling, where a small and feeble duckling is treated as an outcast by other animals until it eventually grows up to be a beautiful swan.

Name origin
Name origin
Milotic may be a combination of aquatic or melodic and Milo (as in the sculpture Venus de Milo, which is known for being an example of beauty (and, like Milotic, possesses no arms). It may also involve mitotic (the healing process of a body part through mitosis), as Milotic has a wide range of healing and defensive moves.
Milotic may be a combination of Venus de Milo (a sculpture known for its beauty) and aquatic, melodic, exotic, or lotic (a river ecosystem).

Milokaross may be a combination of Milo (Venus de Milos) and καλλονή kalloni (Greek language for beauty) or Χάρις charis (Greek for beauty, elegance, charm, or grace). See also Charites.
Milokaross may be a combination of Venus de Milo and κάλλος kállos (Greek for beauty) or Charis (Greek goddesses of grace and beauty).

Milotic (Japanese: ミロカロス Milokaross) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Feebas when leveled up with its Beautiful condition high enough, or when traded while holding a Prism Scale.

(Refer to Game data→Evolution data for more details.)

Biology

Milotic floating

Milotic is an aquatic, serpentine Pokémon with a primarily cream-colored body. It has red eyes with long, pinkish antennae above them. Additionally, there are long, hair-like fins above its eyes, which begin thin and thicken towards the tips. These eyebrows extend to almost half of Milotic's body length and will be longer on the female than the male. On top of its relatively small head is a straight spike. Running down either side of its neck are three black dots, similar to gills. Its lower body is a pattern of blue and pink, diamond-shaped scales outlined with black. The tail consists of four large, blue fins with pink ovals in their centers. Each of the tail fins overlaps the next slightly, causing it to resemble a fan. Milotic's scales are said to change color depending on the viewing angle, which has so far only been depicted in Pokémon Battle Revolution.

It lives at the bottom of large lakes.

Prior to Generation V, Milotic was the only known Pokémon that could have Marvel Scale as an Ability.

Illumina Pokémon

A special Milotic is worshipped in Lental for being one of the seven guardian Illumina Pokémon. It resides in the Belusylva Island Illumina Spot.

This Illumina Pokémon looked stunning as it swam gracefully through the clear water. I suspect some connection with Meganium stirred Milotic from its sleep.

The Prism Scale, introduced in Generation V, was created due to the fact that there is no legitimate way to raise a Feebas's Beauty in the Generation V games, whereas in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the player could trade Feebas to Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald; and in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, a haircut or grooming by Daisy Oak or the haircut brothers affects Beauty, though this cannot raise Feebas's Beauty if its sheen is too high.

Trophy information

NA: Have you ever noticed how anyone who's seen a Milotic just can't seem to describe how beautiful it is? Words just can't do it justice. Even that says a lot about its appearance, doesn't it? If you really wanted to compliment someone, you could say "You're looking Milotic this fine day!"

PAL: Have you ever noticed how anyone who's seen a Milotic just can't seem to describe how beautiful it is? Maybe words can't do it justice. We'll have to add "Milotic" to the dictionary as a brand-new word. But then...how would you define it? Maybe you'd need an illustrated dictionary...

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Milotic appears as a Spirit.

Trivia

  • In the official Prima Strategy Guide for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Milotic's Ability was mistakenly listed as Torrent.
  • Milotic seems to be a counterpart of Gyarados.
    • Milotic may also be a parallel of Gyarados oriented to Pokémon Contests, since it was introduced in the third generation where Pokémon Contests debuted. This is supported by Milotic's emphasis being on its beauty, while Gyarados' emphasis is on its power. In addition, Milotic is strongly associated with Pokémon Contests in Pokémon the Series; all known male Top Coordinators have a Milotic as their signature Pokémon.
  • Milotic is tied with Gyarados for the greatest increase in base stat total after evolving, at 340 points.
  • Milotic is the only Pokémon in the Mystery Dungeon WiiWare games that is unobtainable without evolving a Pokémon in some way be that by a Feebas getting a KO as an enemy Pokémon or by evolving it normally, if Pal Passwords are excluded.
  • Exclusively in Japanese Platinum, a Shiny female Milotic has blue antennas in its front sprite due to a colouring error. This is corrected in every other version of Platinum. This makes Milotic the only Pokémon to have a gender difference exclusive to its Shiny form.

Origin

Milotic seems to be based on a sea serpent and a mermaid due to its hair-like fins, pale upper body, and scaly lower body. It is also similar to an oarfish, which have very long bodies and red fins. Its gills are similar to those of lampreys and hagfishes. Its tail fin resembles a hand fan, and its colorful scales resemble stained glass. Its feminine appearance and history of being depicted in art indicate that it may be inspired by Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Its drastic transformation after evolving from Feebas may be inspired by the classic fairy tale The Ugly Duckling, where a small and feeble duckling is treated as an outcast by other animals until it eventually grows up to be a beautiful swan.

Name origin

Milotic may be a combination of Venus de Milo (a sculpture known for its beauty) and aquatic, melodic, exotic, or lotic (a river ecosystem).

Milokaross may be a combination of Venus de Milo and κάλλος kállos (Greek for beauty) or Charis (Greek goddesses of grace and beauty).
