Griselle (Japanese: グリーズ Grise) is a former Team Flare member, and a member of Team Flare Nouveau in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. She mainly uses Fire-type Pokémon.

Her partner Pokémon is Pyroar.

In the core series games

Appearance

Griselle is an average-height woman with fair complexion and long, platinum blond hair tied into large twin tails over her head. Parts of her hair, including the tips of her twin tails and parts of some loose strands, are red. She usually sports a dour or nonchalant expression.

Griselle and her comrade Grisham are the owners of and baristas for Nouveau Café, and thus wear the almost the same uniform: white glasses, collared white-and-gray shirts decorated with triangles and rolled-back sleeves, black bowties, red-orange aprons dotted with gray and white triangles and emblazoned with the Team Flare Nouveau logo, and black shoes. Griselle complements her outfit with gray shorts and grayish-white leggings underneath her apron. Both Grisham and Griselle sport gray rings fitted with Key Stones on their left middle finger, seemingly in imitation of how their former boss used to wear his own.

Personality

Griselle is initially presented as the unnamed charismatic barista who takes orders and serves them to customers, including Team MZ, at Centrico Plaza's Nouveau Café.

However, she is also shown to have a more aggressive and rude side, first shown when Lida orders more food during one of Team MZ's visits, which took place right before Lebanne's first appearance, with Griselle angrily telling Team MZ to order everything they wanted from the beginning and not make more work for her.

Once the player discovers Grisham is their opponent in their Z-A Royale promotion match to Rank A, Griselle becomes way more hostile towards the player, since they are associated with AZ, as a member of Team MZ.

Similarly to Grisham, Griselle holds AZ responsible for Team Flare's downfall due to the ultimate weapon being his creation, which led Lysandre astray with his decision to unleash it.

While her hotheaded personality remains, Griselle is shown to be friendly with her allies, including Grisham, whom she is notably close with despite their different personalities, and the player, whom she gains more respect for after losing to them in a Pokémon battle outside of Lysandre Café, where she simmers down and acknowledges her defeat, and fully heals the player's team with Nouveau Café's signature drink, the Ember Roast, for free as a sign of respect.

History

Background

Griselle was a former member of Team Flare, raised as a part of a "new generation" for the organization. She is notably a strong Pokémon Trainer, similarly to Grisham.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The player first encounters Griselle after learning about Grisham's identity from Emma and Mable, as he introduces Griselle shortly after. The player is provided the location of Lysandre Café as an alternative meeting point.

Upon their arrival at the meeting point, Griselle's short fuse and refusal to acknowledge the player as worthy of learning the true history of Team Flare prompts her to challenge them to a Pokémon battle.

Upon Grisham's defeat in his promotion match with the player, he and Griselle acknowledge the player's new status as the strongest Mega Evolution user, and are willing to help the player when they need it.

Griselle and Grisham return during the game's final act. Despite not taking part in the strategy meeting, they participate to ensure the players save travel to Zygarde. After battling three Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon alongside the player, they distract a horde of Mega Pinsir to clear the last part of the path.

Pokémon

Griselle keeps her Pokémon in Quick Balls and will Mega Evolve her Pyroar at the first opportunity.

Trivia

  • Talonflame is the only Pokémon Griselle uses that is not capable of Mega Evolving.
  • When spoken to at the flagship Nouveau Café truck to place an order, Griselle's name does not appear above her text window, even after completing the game.
  • Griselle and Grisham's Pyroar are both respectively the only members of their teams to be of the opposite gender.
  • While Griselle is not stated to specialize in any specific type, three of her five Pokémon are Fire-types (including her partnered Mega Pyroar), which is one of the two most common types used in Team Flare Nouveau, the other being the Dark-type.
    • This indicates that Griselle may have a preference for Fire-types, due to an array of possible factors, such as her former association with Team Flare, hotheaded personality, usage of Quick Balls, and tendency to exclaim words relating to fire during Pokémon battles (similarly to Grisham).
    • While not a Fire-type, Griselle's Aerodactyl is a Fossil Pokémon, which makes it a likely reference to Team Flare's attempt to steal fossils during their first encounter with the player in Pokémon X and Y.
    • While also not a Fire-type, Griselle's Metagross is a Pokémon that is known to have evolved from Beldum and Metang, and these two can be found as wild encounters in the abandoned Lysandre Labs in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
