Leafeon (Japanese: リーフィア Leafia) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

It evolves from Eevee when leveled up near a Moss Rock or when exposed to a Leaf Stone.

It is one of Eevee's final forms, the others being Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon, and Sylveon.

Biology

Leafeon is a mammalian, quadrupedal Pokémon. Its body is tan with dark brown paws. It has a multitude of small green sprouts growing all over its legs, chest, and back, with the longest one on its head, in front of four tan tufts of fur. Leafeon's green ears and tail resemble tattered leaves. It has brown eyes and a small, brown nose.

This Pokémon's cellular structure is similar to plants, which allows it to perform photosynthesis and purify the air around it by sleeping under the sunlight; it gets its energy in this way instead of eating. It is a pacifistic, quiet Pokémon, preferring not to fight, though it will sharpen its hard, leafy tail for the occasions it needs to. The tail's sharpness is said to exceed that of a master-crafted sword, being able to cut down a large tree with one hit. Leafeon's aroma is similar to fresh grass in its youth; as it ages, this fragrance bears more of a resemblance to fallen leaves. The aroma is favored in Galar, where it is used to create a popular perfume. It lives in lush forests that have clean rivers. As mentioned in the Sleep Style Dex, the air produced by a sleeping Leafeon can help any Pokémon sleep deeply.

During the development of Generation II, the earliest iteration of Leafeon was a quadrupedal Grass-type Pokémon with root-like feet, several markings across its body, and a short fringe above its eyes. Its eventual redesign for Generation IV is evidenced by Leafeon's early Japanese name in the data of Pokémon Battle Revolution matching the same name as this early iteration from Generation II, known as Rīfi (リーフィ).

Evolution data

Leafeon evolves from Eevee when exposed to a Moss Rock or, from Generation VIII onwards, when exposed to a Leaf Stone. Eevee will always evolve into Leafeon when leveled up near a Moss Rock, even if the evolutionary conditions for it to evolve into Espeon, Umbreon, or Sylveon have also been met. The Moss Rock is not present in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, Pokémon Sword and Shield, or Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Eevee will never evolve into Leafeon in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, as Leafeon is not present in those games.

Leafeon made its animated series debut in Double-Time Battle Training!, under the ownership of Zoey. It appeared again in Coming Full-Festival Circle! in the Sinnoh Grand Festival, where it was used in a two-on-two Contest Battle alongside Mismagius, going up against Nando's Lopunny and Kricketune.

In Eevee & Friends, a relaxed Leafeon was with an Eevee and its other evolved forms, including the newly introduced Sylveon.

In Turning Heads and Training Hard!, a wild Leafeon was summoned to help Ilima's Eevee perform Extreme Evoboost. In the Poké Problem segment of the next episode, it saw Ilima and Eevee off.

A Leafeon appeared in Suffering the Flings and Arrows!, under the ownership of Erika. It reappeared in flashbacks in Reuniting for the First Time! and Infinite Possibilities!.

Minor appearances

Leafeon debuted in Giratina and the Sky Warrior, where it was together with an Eevee and its other six evolved forms at the time.

Virgil's male Leafeon appeared in Team Eevee and the Pokémon Rescue Squad!, along with an Eevee and her other evolved forms at the time. He reappeared in a flashback in the next episode.

Trophy information

A Fresh Snow Pokémon and a Verdant Pokémon. They are both evolutions of Eevee. Eevee can evolve into seven different Pokémon depending on what it has in its possession and where it is when it evolves. Glaceon is an Ice-type and can freeze all the fur on its body into protective quills. Leafeon is a Grass-type, and the air around it is always fresh and clean.

Leafeon is playable through obtaining a Unite License. It is a melee speedster that starts as Eevee, which evolves into Leafeon at level 4.

Trivia

• Leafeon was designed by Atsuko Nishida.
• According to the Diamond and Pearl Pokédex, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Umbreon have identical footprints.
• As there is no Moss Rock in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, it is impossible to evolve Eevee into a Leafeon in these games. The same applies for Magnezone, Probopass, and Glaceon. All have to be traded from Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum to be obtained.
• Despite Eevee being obtainable before the Pokémon League in Pokémon Black and White Versions 2, it cannot evolve into Leafeon or Glaceon until after the Elite Four is defeated. This is because Pinwheel Forest, where the Moss Rock is located, cannot be reached until that point in the game, as the entrance to the Skyarrow Bridge is blocked.
• Leafeon, along with Glaceon, is the only Eeveelution to not be seen evolving from Eevee onscreen in the animated series.

Origin

Leafeon bears many similarities to cats and foxes, from their appearances, behaviors such as tree climbing, and cries; Leafeon's cry sounds similar to a cat's meow or a fox's chirp. Its coloration appears to be inspired by the markings found on animals like the Siamese cat or the red fox. As it is overgrown with leaves, it also has traits of plants, such as the ability to utilize photosynthesis. The brown marks on its paws give the appearance that they were buried.

Name origin

Leafeon may be a combination of leaf and eon (an immeasurably long period of time, possibly referring to how long evolution takes naturally). Eon is a suffix all Eevee evolutions share and was Eevee's English prototype name.

Leafia may be derived from leaf.
