Glalie (Japanese : オニゴーリ Onigohri ) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III .
It evolves from Snorunt starting at level 42. It is one of Snorunt's final forms, the other being Froslass .
Glalie can Mega Evolve into Mega Glalie using the Glalitite . Mega Glalie was introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire .
Biology
Glalie is a spherical Pokémon that consists of a black rock core covered by ice. The icy covering has several holes and spaces across this Pokémon's body. Blue eyes and a mouth with flat teeth are visible through three of these holes. There are two large, black, conical horns on either side of Glalie's head.
There is a legend that says Glalie was born from a boulder that has absorbed the distress and regrets from any mountaineers that got lost on icy mountains. Glalie's icy body is actually rock that is not particularly hard. When covered in ice, its body becomes harder than steel. It does not melt, and it can control ice by instantly freezing moisture in the air into any desirable shape. This ability is used to drape itself in ice armor and freeze its prey, which it then consumes whole. It prefers consuming Pokémon that are already frozen, such as Vanillite . It can be found in caves , particularly when the outside weather lacks snow.
In the animated series , Glalie is depicted floating in midair and moving freely, similar to flying, and can even be ridden as a form of transport .
Forms
Glalie can Mega Evolve into Mega Glalie.
Mega Glalie's jaw is dislocated because of the overwhelming energy, causing its mouth to extend to the length of its face. The lower jaw is all black except for two light-blue, conical, icy spikes. The pupils in Mega Glalie's eyes are now red instead of black. The horns on top Mega Glalie's head have been partially turned into ice, with the addition of a third horn on its forehead.
Mega Glalie can spill endless blizzards from its broken mouth, though it gets irritated by the fact that it can no longer consume its prey. The areas Mega Glalie often appears in will cause the area to be whited out. Mega Glalie tends to throw foes or prey into its gaping mouth.[ 1] Any prey that it envelopes within its mouth is frozen instantly.
Evolution
Glalie evolves from Snorunt and is one of its final forms, the other being Froslass .

Trivia
Origin
Glalie appears to be based on human features, like those of a cold, distant person or facial expression. It also appears somewhat similar to an ice hockey mask . Due to its Japanese name, horns, and teeth, it may be based on an oni or Tsurube-otoshi . The oni-like features and mask-like appearance may reference the Namahage , demons portrayed by men wearing oni masks and straw capes (mino) as part of a ritual in northern Japan. Glalie's pre-Evolution Snorunt appears to wear a mino. It may also be based on onigiri (rice ball ), as its Japanese name suggests. It also resembles a hailstone .
Mega Glalie appears to wear a beard .
Name origin
Glalie may be a combination of glacier and goalie .
Onigohri is a combination of 鬼 oni (demon), 氷 kōri (ice), and goalie — former Game Freak staff Akihito Tomisawa stated that he coined the name because he thought the Pokémon looked like a goalie mask.[ 2] The name may also be a pun on onigiri .
