Nature Power (Japanese: しぜんのちから Nature Power) is a Normal-type move introduced in Generation III. It was TM96 from Generation VI to Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Effect

This move effect may be in need of research.
Reason: Who is targeted when single-target moves are called in Gens III-V during double and triple battles?
You can discuss this on the talk page.

Nature Power becomes a different damaging move depending on the environment that the battle is being conducted in.

Nature Power gains priority from Prankster, despite always calling a damaging move in games that Prankster exists. Effects that depend on a move's type (such as Pixilate and Gems) will be executed based on the type of the move Nature Power becomes.

Generation III

Nature Power targets the user rather than any specific Pokémon. Therefore, in Double and Triple Battles, because of the inability to select a target, the chosen move always hit the opponent directly opposite the user, except in Pokémon Emerald, where it always targets randomly. If the opponent directly opposite the user had fainted, the move will randomly target one of the other opponents. If in a terrain that calls a move that affects multiple Pokémon, it will target the Pokémon usually targeted by that move.

In Generation III core series, the environment is decided by a series of checks, which include the player's current tile and map, causing it to mostly match with the player's current location, although some quirks arise:

  • While the water in caves has appearance of seawater, it is treated as pond water.
  • Moltres and Ho-Oh are fought in cave environment, despite being located outside.
  • Deoxys is fought in either mountainousFRLG or buildingE environment.
  • As fishing is done from an adjacent tile, it leads to various environments, but never actually water.

In a Pokémon Contest, Nature Power uses AncientPower's animation (but not the effects).

Generation IV

In Generation IV core series, the battle environment is roughly decided as such:

  • Tall grass, sand, snow, ice, water, and marsh apply their own environment, although the last can only be found in the Safari Zone, making its effects unused.
  • Fishing always results in water environment, unlike in Generation III.
  • Honey tree encounters always result in plain environment.
  • Otherwise, game checks the current map. This will result in cave environment, plain environment, rocky environment, tall grass environment, or urban environment. This sometimes leads to apparent mismatch with the current map; for example, Burned Tower, Embedded Tower, and Ilex Forest are treated as caves (but Lost Tower is not), while Cherrygrove City and Azalea Town are not treated as urban (but Route 17 is).
  • In Pokémon Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, there are also special environments for battles against each of the Elite Four and Champion, as well as in Distortion World and each of the Battle Frontier facilities.

There are two unused environments: puddles (as those tiles default to the map's terrain instead), which have the same effects as tall grass, and an unfinished glitchy environment with unique effect, as seen below.

In a Pokémon Super Contest, Nature Power uses Tri Attack's animation (but not the effects).

Nature Power now targets an adjacent Pokémon rather than the user (even if the move it would turn into affects multiple Pokémon). This allows single-target moves called by Nature Power to target an ally, which was not previously possible.

In a Pokémon Contest Spectacular, Nature Power uses Encore's animation (but not the effects).

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

Nature Power becomes a different damaging move depending on the dungeon terrain, which can change in the middle of a dungeon. Despite being classified as a status move, it is not affected by Taunt in the Rescue Team series. This is changed from the Explorers series.

In Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, it is also affected by moves that change terrain.
