Location

Dark Crater (Japanese: やみのかこう Dark Crater) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky in the Volcanic Area. This dungeon has 30 floors, with a waypoint halfway through, and is unlocked by clearing Spacial Rift. This dungeon is where the hero and their partner, accompanied by Cresselia, will fight the final boss of the second storyline, Darkrai.

All stages of the Fire-type first partner Pokémon that have existed as of Generation IV are found in this dungeon.

Gameplay

The jobs are ranked E, ★2, ★3, or ★4 by default, depending on the floor. Deep Dark Crater is ★4, ★5, ★6 and ★7 for purpose of Treasure Boxes.

The dungeon uses three layout types:

  • Most floors are large sized, with the maximum amount of rooms cycling upwards between 9, 10, 11 and 12 (even when this is not the floor layout, going back to 9 after 12). The exception to this is the very last floor of Deep Dark Crater, with only 7 rooms at max.
  • Floors 2 and 4 of Dark Crater have hallways in the center, with rooms on the edge.
  • Floors 7 and 10 of Dark Crater have hallways on the edges with rooms in the center.

There are 2-5 items on the ground between floors 1 and 9 of Dark Crater and 3-6 on later floors. There are also 4-7 items in the walls. There are 2-4 starting enemies on each floor.

The IQ Booster activates on every floor. The turn limit is 1000. Items spawn sticky 5% of the time. The player cannot be rescued if knocked out in Deep Dark Crater. There is light darkness in the dungeon. There is lava on floors 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 of Dark Crater, and 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 13 of Deep Dark Crater. Enemies up to fourth floor of Deep Dark Crater have 150IQ and 331IQ on the later floors of Deep Dark Crater. All Pokémon in the boss fight have 600IQ, granting them various IQ skills.

Pokémon encountered

Dark Crater

Each time player enters floors 4 through 10 of Dark Crater, only 14 of the species that can be found on a given floor will be chosen. The unpicked Pokémon's spawn rate will be added to whichever picked Pokémon is next in the National Dex order, going back to the beginning if needed.
