Shining Sky-High Sync Moves (Japanese: 天に輝くバディーズわざ Buddies Moves Shining in the Sky) was a Neo Champions event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Elio (Champion) & Necrozma and Selene (Champion) & Necrozma.
The "Elio Master Fair" sync pair scout gave players an increased chance of recruiting Elio (Champion) & Necrozma for the duration of the event, and the "Selene Master Fair" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Selene (Champion) & Necrozma starting on June 1, 2025 and lasting until the end of the event.
During this event, players could earn event points by completing battles. Players received rewards based on the number of points accumulated, including 5★ Scout Tickets, a Sprint Move Candy Coin, an Ever Pin, and medals. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day.
The player could battle using Elio (Champion) & Necrozma or Selene (Champion) & Necrozma to obtain +0.6× bonus points; Kukui & Lycanroc, Sygna Suit Gladion & Magearna, or Sygna Suit Hau & Tapu Kokoto obtain +0.4× bonus points; and any unlisted Alola sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus points.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with one or fewer sync pairs fainting and sync pairs with specific theme skills on the team.
Additionally, the music and artwork on the title screen were different than usual. The title screen artwork depicted Elio (Champion) & Necrozma and Selene (Champion) & Necrozma, and the background music was
Battle! (Alola Neo Champion) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). In addition, a special voice-over line of Elio or Selene saying "Pokémon Masters EX" would play as soon as the game's logo appeared on the title screen, chosen at random each time the title screen was loaded. This lasted from the beginning of the event to June 17, 2025.
Plot
At the Champion Stadium, Lance introduces Pasio's newest Neo Champions, Elio and Selene. They pose on the arena's stage in their new Neo Champion outfits with their new partners, a Shiny Dusk Mane Necrozma and a Shiny Dawn Wings Necrozma, respectively. Lance says they earned the title for demonstrating the ultimate sync moves, and Kukui arrives to congratulate the two.
In a flashback, Kukui recalls when the Shiny Necrozma arrived on Pasio, opening a multitude of Ultra Wormholes and allowing Ultra Beasts to invade the island. The two Necrozma easily defeat Guzma's Golisopod, Hau's Alolan Raichu, Gladion's Silvally, and Lillie's Lunala, with even Lusamine's Ultra Necrozma barely putting up a fight. Elio and Selene arrive and suggest to instead give them the light from their sync moves. Despite the fact that the two Necrozma are seemingly unsatiated from the multiple sync moves the quintet had already used, they encourage them to continue, calling on more partner Pokémon to help out.
In the town, the island kahunas are doing their best to stop multiple Ultra Beasts from causing havoc, with Hala and Olivia facing a Blacephalon while Nanu and Hapu deal with two Nihilego. As Kukui clashes against two Poipole with his Lycanroc, he sees the flash of light from the peak of the hill and realizes Elio and Selene have succeeded. In the present, Kukui reveals that seeing that light shining at full power was what inspired him to suggest this Neo Champion Stadium, and also thanks Lance for turning his wish into reality.
As the sun sets, Kukui tells Elio and Selene that though they are now Neo Champions, their journey has only just begun. Since Neo Champions are meant to be a role model for others, and with the two being Alola's first Neo Champions, Selene proposes that the first thing they do should be something unique to them. Elio ponders for a moment, and recalls the time when Mallow and other Trial Captains hosted a series of island challenge-style trials to welcome them when they first arrived, proposing that they do that on a larger scale.
Over the next few days, Elio and Selene go around recruiting the Trial Captains, the Alolan Elite Four and kahunas, and even members of Team Skull to help with their event. Then, the duo announce the Pasio Island Challenge, an event where participants must form teams of two to collect stamps from trials around Pasio and beat the Elite Four, cumulating in a Title Defense challenge against them, so that people can learn about the culture of Alola.
On the day of the Pasio Island Challenge, multiple teams have started. Ilima tells Elaine and Chase that there are Pasio stickers to help them out, with Tina & Paulo having found one nearby. Elsewhere, the player and Lillie encounter Team Skull Grunts, who affirm that this time they've been given permission to serve as interference for all participants.
In the forest, Erika and Jasmine have completed the challenge of the Akala Island Trial Captains, with their dish luring in Lana's Tapu Lele. Elsewhere, Mina oversees another challenge with Burgh and Bugsy, who are observing three Alolan Exeggutor. They notice a Pinsir is hiding in one of them, so Bugsy sends out his Scyther to battle in response.
In the arena, Flint and Volkner face Hala and Kahili, pitting their Magmortar and Electivire against their Crabominable and Toucannon. While Flint is fired up, Volkner cautions him from burning out too early. Hala is amused by their passionate spirit, with Kahili declaring to see who the winds will favour. Agatha and Bertha meanwhile battle against Hapu and Olivia. When Agatha grumbles about the sandstorm, Bertha says it's time for her to step up for their team, and their teamwork surprises Olivia and impresses Hapu. Further ahead, Raihan's Flygon and Gordie's Coalossal find themselves cornered when their Sandstorm strategy is unexpectedly taken advantage by Molayne's Alolan Dugtrio and Sophocles's Alolan Golem; on the other hand, Acerola chastises Nanu for not giving it his all as they battle Shauntal and Lucian. Though he claims serious battles aren't his style, Nanu grumbles he has no choice but to step it up as a kahuna. Shauntal narrates the glint in Nanu's eye, and Lucian declares that they will fight through this trial like the heroes in the climax of a novel.
Up in the Champion Stadium, Selene and Elio ponder that the first challengers who have completed all the trials should be arriving by now. As if on cue, Nemona and Juliana approach them and send out their Scream Tail and Koraidon for battle. Nemona declares to Juliana that they're going to show the Neo Champions their teamwork. Elio is impressed by their strength, but the two aren't done yet. After a fruitful clash, the Champion-ranked Trainers from Paldea are the first to fall. Despite this, both agree that it was so much fun, and they say they'll be back to challenge the Neo Champions again.
As dusk rises, the next pair of challengers to arrive are Rei and Akari, members of the Galaxy Team's Survey Corps. Rei proclaim that he's always out for new experiences, while Akari looks forward to battling them to understand her Pokémon. The two send out their Hisuian Decidueye and Samurott for battle, with Rei acting as a decoy to throw them off guard while Akari leads the offensive. Selene is surprised by the difference of how Hisuian Decideye battle compared to the Alolan ones, and both acknowledge that the two combined their individual battle styles with their teamwork to make a tough opponent. In turn, the Hisuian Trainers are amazed and eventually overwhelmed by the power of the Pokémon who devour light, stronger perhaps than the noble Pokémon they've encountered, but are thankful for the learning experience nonetheless and decide to return later.
When night arrives, the final pair of challengers to arrive are Hau and Gladion, both dressed in their sygna suits, having taken their time to train for a serious battle. Sending out their Tapu Koko and Magearna, respectively, Hau and Gladion devote this battle to their partners and unleash dazzlingly bright moves strong enough to make both Necrozma stagger briefly, much to Elio and Selene's astonishment. That said, both Necrozma are still standing, and the two Neo Champions declare that, on this spot on Pasio, as close to the sun and moon, is where they'll send this full-powered light all the way up to the sky, unleashing a blinding attack that defeats their Alolan rivals. Although they are somewhat disappointed with their loss, both Hau and Gladion promise to return.
Eventually, Elio and Selene gather everyone involved to thank them for participating that day, with the Pasio Island Challenge being a bright success. As everyone unwinds, Elio and Selene are glad to hear everyone was all smiles, but then ponder on what to do next, declaring that their journey as Neo Champions is far from over.

Trivia
- This is the only Neo Champions event to begin with the featured sync pairs receiving the Neo Champion title, rather than ending with it.
- Elio's mention of Mallow hosting trials on Pasio for him and Selene when they first arrived is a reference to the events of Trials on the Isle.
