Tiny Courage, Big Thanks (Japanese: 小さな勇気に感謝の花を Flowers of Gratitude for a Little Courage) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Marley (Palentine's 2025) & Shaymin and Erika (Palentine's 2025) & Lurantis.
The "Marley Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Marley (Palentine's 2025) & Shaymin for the duration of the event, and the "Erika Seasonal Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Erika (Palentine's 2025) & Lurantis starting on February 2, 2025 and lasting until the end of the event.
During this event, players could earn event points by completing battles. Players received rewards based on the number of points accumulated, including 5★ Scout Tickets, a Tech Move Candy Coin, a 5★ Power-Up, and medals. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day.
The player could battle using Marley (Palentine's 2025) & Shaymin or Erika (Palentine's 2025) & Lurantis to obtain +0.6× bonus points; Victor (Palentine's 2024) & Greedent, Candice (Palentine's 2024) & Darmanitan, Mallow (Palentine's 2023) & Appletun, Elesa (Palentine's 2023) & Togetic, Marnie (Palentine's 2022) & Mawile, Bea (Palentine's 2022) & Vanilluxe, Serena (Palentine's 2021) & Whimsicott, or Dawn (Palentine's 2021) & Alcremie to obtain +0.4× bonus points; and any unlisted sync pairs with the
Sinnoh or
Kanto theme skills to obtain +0.2× bonus points.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with one or fewer sync pairs fainting and sync pairs with specific theme skills on the team.
Two special battles, Training with Marley and Looking After Flowers with Erika, were unlocked after completing the main storyline of this event. These battles could only be challenged with a set team consisting of Scottie/Bettie & Pikachu and one of the featured sync pairs. Completing one of these battles three times rewarded the player with a letter from the corresponding Trainer that could be used to unlock a story area, with Marley's letter unlocking A Secret Message and Erika's letter unlocking Flowers and Their Meanings. Completing these areas rewarded the player with Marley's Bouquet and Erika's Bouquet, respectively. If the player had not used the letters by the time the event was finished, they would be automatically exchanged for coins. The bouquets are not automatically exchanged for coins.
Plot
As Palentine's Day approaches, Elesa, Marnie, Bea and Serena have gathered at Centra City to discuss about the amount of snacks they have readied to give out. Nearby, Marley is silently watching the group when Mallow startles her. Marley explains she wants to give Palentine Day gifts to Elesa and Marnie for the times they each helped give her courage, but is at a loss on what gifts she can get outside of snacks.
Thinking for a moment, Mallow has an idea, and brings her to a gathering of Grass-type trainers who are taking care of the flowers there. Marley is intrigued, and comments on one of the flowers, which quickly reveals itself to be Erika's new partner Lurantis, startling her. Erika explains how she met Lurantis as a Fomantis that had arrived along some flowers they brought in, and has been taking care of her since. Ramos and Milo further explain that maintaining Lurantis' vivid colours is a time-consuming task, while Gardenia suggests that the vivacity of Erika's is her way of repaying gratitude, a suggestion that Erika leads on to say that flowers are a great Palentine's Day gift.
After hearing about Marley's wish to repay Elesa and Marnie, Erika gifts Marley an outfit with artificial Gracidea flowers, explaining that bouquets of Gracidea are often given to convey gratitude, and notes that natural ones are hard to procure on Pasio. The group is helping Marley figure out the type of bouquets she wants to make when they hear an odd cry, and spot a small Grass-type Pokemon watching them that Mallow figures out is Shaymin; though Gardenia also points out that it seems different to Rosa's Shaymin, Erika notes she heard that Shaymin have two different forms, and that it's a Pokemon associated with feelings of gratitude. She guesses that it was drawn to Marley, but it quickly makes itself scarce when the latter tries to approach it.
Erika checks in on Marley as she collects the flowers she wanted, though the latter is still pondering about the Shaymin they saw. To their surprise, the Shaymin reappears once more before fleeing. Marley wonders if she should leave it alone, but Erika thinks it's definitely curious about Marley. The next time Shaymin appears, Erika has her Lurantis use a sweet scent to coax Shaymin out to no avail. Marley guesses that this Shaymin could be like how she was some time ago, being too shy and scared of getting its feelings hurt, and decides to be the one to giving courage to Shaymin so it can learn how to be braver.
On Palentine's Day, Marley spots both Elesa and Marnie chatting while Shaymin is watching her nearby. Collecting herself, she approaches the duo, thanking Elesa, who encouraged her to be herself and allowed her to start expressing herself more, and Marnie, who accepted her as she was, and gives them her bouquets. A few days later, Shaymin has also gathered its courage to approach Marley, who has met up with the group to make a flower field. She shyly asks the Gratitude Pokemon if it would like to help out as well, and it happily accepts.
