Shining Heart of Dragons (Japanese: パシオに輝く竜の新星 The Rising Dragon Star Shining in Pasio) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pair Iris (Alt.) & Hydreigon. It also marked the debut of Diantha as an NPC.
The "Iris Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Iris (Alt.) & Hydreigon for the duration of the event.
During this event, players could earn Prize Coins from battles that could be used to draw items from a prize box pool. If the grand prize was drawn from the prize box, players could advance to the next prize pool. Extra Prize Coins were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
This event featured the Full-Force Battle, where players were challenged to defeat a large group of strong opponents. Similar to the Legendary Arena, players could use multiple teams with a limited number of total sync pairs, with the opponents' health carrying over between rounds and with previously used pairs unable to be used again until the challenge is reset. Medals could be earned by completing specific missions.
In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.
First run
The event first ran from March 18 to April 2, 2021. The grand prizes in the prize box included area info for event story areas, 5★ Scout Tickets, Power-Up items, Skill Spheres, a Support Move Candy Coin, and a Tech Move Candy Coin. Event mission rewards included medals, Gems, and sync orbs for Iris (Alt.) & Hydreigon.
All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Challenge the Dragon Sync Pairs, which could only be challenged once per day. The player could battle using Iris (Alt.) & Hydreigon to obtain +0.6× bonus Prize Coins; Hilbert & Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott or Caitlin & Reuniclus to obtain +0.4× bonus Prize Coins; and Iris & Haxorus, Brycen & Cryogonal, Rosa & Snivy/Servine/Serperior, or Skyla & Swanna to obtain +0.2× bonus Prize Coins.
Second run
The event reran from March 10 to 24, 2022. The grand prizes from the prize box included area info for event story areas, Power-Up items, 5★ Unova Scout Tickets, Skill Spheres, and a Support Move Candy Coin. Event mission rewards included medals, Gems, co-op sync orbs, and a Tech Move Candy Coin.
Challenge the Dragon Sync Pairs could still only be challenged once per day. The player could battle using Iris (Alt.) & Hydreigon to obtain +0.6× bonus Prize Coins; Hilbert & Oshawott/Dewott/Samurott or Caitlin & Reuniclus to obtain +0.4× bonus Prize Coins; and any other sync pair with the Unova theme skill to obtain +0.2× bonus Prize Coins.
Third run
The event reran again from November 6 to 20, 2023. Event mission rewards included medals, Gems, and co-op sync orbs. Challenge the Dragon Sync Pairs was renamed to Challenge the Dragon Types, but could still only be challenged once per day. Everything else was the same as the previous run.
Plot
Iris and Brycen greet the player in the Pokémon Center to let them know that an event called the Festival of Champions is being held to celebrate all the Champions on Pasio. The event will feature exhibition matches between the Champions, and Iris, wearing her Champion outfit, is going to represent Unova in these battles.
As the Champions assemble, Iris is excited to greet all the fans. To her disappointment, though, the fans pass her by to fawn over other Champions like Leon and Cynthia. Fortunately, two kids show up and say that Iris is their favorite Champion because she's a kid like them, and she starts talking to them eagerly. Meanwhile, Hilbert and Diantha approach Iris. Hilbert introduces Diantha and Iris to each other, and they chat a little bit before Iris has to run off and get ready for her exhibition match against Lance. As she is getting ready, though, she overhears some people saying that they think Iris is too young and inexperienced to stand a chance against Lance, so she's sure to lose and be an embarrassment to Unova. This makes her even more determined to win and make everyone proud.
As soon as the match begins, however, Iris's Hydreigon suddenly loses control and starts rampaging around the arena. She does not know what is happening, so Lance and Diantha step in and calm it down. Since the damage was minimal, the staff let her off with a warning. However, she still cannot explain why Hydreigon went on a rampage like that. Lance reminds her that she is a representative of Unova and a role model to others, so she has to conduct herself accordingly, and she leaves to go mull things over. She changes out of her Champion outfit and goes to an isolated place, but Diantha followers her. She offers to lend a listening ear, so Iris vents to Diantha about what happened before the match. She says she does not think she is good enough to be a Champion, but Diantha says that instead of comparing herself to other Champions, Iris should think about what they have in common instead. Diantha leaves to let Iris ponder her words, while Lance and Alder watch from afar.
The next day, Iris is still nervous about her next match. On the other side of the arena, Lance and Diantha tell Hilbert that they are both concerned about Iris and want to see her become her best self. Suddenly, a handful of Pokémon around the arena start rampaging, just like Hydreigon did the day before. Some members of Team Break appear and reveal that the rampaging is caused by a machine they created that incites the urge to battle in Pokémon with wild, aggressive natures. More Pokémon start rampaging, including Iris's Hydreigon. Lance tries to attack one of them with Hyper Beam to stop its rampage, but its Trainer protests that she does not want him to hurt her Pokémon, so they have to figure out a less aggressive method of restraining the Pokémon. Hilbert suggests that Iris use Haxorus to stop Hydreigon, but Alder calls out to her and tells her to look into her partner's eyes.
Taking his advice, Iris decides not to bring out Hydreigon and instead senses Hydreigon's feelings, calling out to her that she believes in her. Through the power of friendship, Hydreigon breaks out from the machine's control and destroys it, freeing the other Pokémon from its control as well. Diantha and Lance intimidate Team Break into submission, and Iris promises Lance that she will make sure to pay attention to her Pokémon's feelings from now on. Diantha and Lance marvel at her growth, and Diantha comments that she enjoys the feeling of helping someone else improve and wants to do it more. Later, Iris and Diantha prepare to fight each other in an exhibition match, and the people who were disparaging her the day before are now enthusiastically cheering her on.
