Trivia
- Serena is based on the player character of the Kalos-based games, as she says that she learned about being a Trainer from Calem and has never lost a battle to him. In addition, her first sync pair has the type advantage over Shauna's sync pair.
- The voiceover when leveling up the original version of Serena has an error. Instead of saying "We're getting so strong!", the voiceover starts in the middle and Serena will say "Are getting so strong!"
- All versions of Serena use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Calem, Shauna, Korrina, Diantha, and Professor Sycamore.
- Serena also uses special voice-over lines upon winning a battle with Calem, Shauna, Korrina, or Diantha in the same team.
- When Serena's special voice-over lines were added in version 2.19.0, she did not have a voice-over line for teaming up with Korrina or winning a battle with her; these were added in version 2.27.0. This makes her the only character to have new team-up voice-over lines added for a character that had been in the game since launch.
- Serena is the first player character to form a Master Fair-exclusive sync pair.
Origin
Serena's design is based on her appearance in Pokémon X and Y. Fennekin is one of the starter Pokémon of Kalos in the core series games. As the rival character, Fennekin and its evolutions are Serena's signature Pokémon if the player chooses Chespin as their starter in the Kalos-based core series games. In addition, Fennekin is depicted as Serena's starter Pokémon in the anime. Fennekin, Braixen, and Delphox's Dex entries come from Pokémon X.
Fletchling is a Pokémon owned by the player's mother, Grace, in Pokémon X and Y, who she uses to wake the player up at the beginning of the game. As the rival character, Serena uses a Fletchling to teach the player and Shauna how to catch a Pokémon. In addition, Serena's Pokémon Adventures counterpart had a Fletchling as her first Pokémon, who later evolved into a Fletchinder. Fletchling's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
Serena is not seen to own a Whimsicott outside this game. Whimsicott's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
Zygarde is a Pokémon that can be caught in Pokémon X and Y. Zygarde 50% Forme's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun. Zygarde Complete Forme's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Moon.
Greninja is the final form of Froakie, one of the starter Pokémon of Kalos in the core series games. As the rival character, Greninja is Serena's signature Pokémon if the player chooses Fennekin as their starter in the Kalos-based core series games. In addition, Greninja is depicted as Serena's Pokémon Adventures counterpart's starter Pokémon in the manga. Greninja's Dex entry comes from Pokémon X.
