Nemona (Japanese: ネモ Nemo) is a recurring character in the manga series Pokémon Adventures. She is one of Paldea's Champion-ranked Trainers and has a one-sided rivalry with Scarlet.

Character

Nemona is a very friendly and energetic person, quickly making friends with others and willing to help them with little to no incentive. She can be oblivious to other's feelings, most often seen when she refuses to acknowledge Scarlet's lack of interest in her.

She also has a huge passion for Pokémon battles, challenging different Trainers as she encounters them and seeking out more challenge matches.

History

Nemona debuted in Speeding! Paldea's Prince of Speed!!. During Uva Academy's opening ceremony for the Treasure Hunt, Clavell selected Nemona and another, helmet-wearing student, to have a demonstration battle. The match was interrupted when a student named Violet barged into the courtyard and got into a race with some teachers. Once the race was over, Nemona challenged Violet, claiming that he owed her a battle after his actions caused her previous opponent to run off. Arven told Nemona that she'd be better off looking for her previous opponent before leaving with Violet to search for the Herba Mystica. Nemona later found the helmeted student in the school library, only for them to disappear before she could ask for a rematch.

In Challenge! DJ Giacomo!!, after gathering information from the teaching staff, Nemona successfully uncovered the identity of the helmeted student: a girl named Scarlet. At the Mesagoza south Pokémon Center, she challenged Scarlet to a rematch, but was refused. Scarlet stated that she had no interest in Uva Academy's "make-believe" Treasure Hunt before revealing her profession as an actual treasure hunter. In Skillful! The Mysterious Treasure Hunter!!, fed up with Nemona's constant pestering, Scarlet fled and headed towards South Province (Area Two).

Nemona and Scarlet

Days later, Nemona arrived at Cortondo, hoping to challenge the Gym, only to learn that Scarlet had gotten there first. Scarlet battled and defeated Katy, the Cortondo Gym Leader, but rejected the Badge she was offered. Instead, she requested that Katy provide her with any information on the treasures of ruin that Katy might have. Once Nemona finished her Gym battle, Katy revealed she had no knowledge on the treasures of ruin, but offered to let the Artazon Gym Leader Brassius know what Scarlet was searching for ahead of time. Nemona and Scarlet then left to find a watchtower located in South Province (Area Three). Arven later happened to arrive at the same watchtower, only to find Nemona lying unconscious on top of it.

In Fierce Battle! The Stony Cliff Titan!!, after waking up, Nemona explained that she was attacked by a wild Gimmighoul shortly after climbing the watchtower. Scarlet told Nemona to recover her vitality by resting before heading off to Artazon alone. After learning that Arven was working with Violet to take on the Klawf, the Stony Cliff Titan, Nemona begged the two to let her join them. Nemona and Arven fired a pincer attack at Klawf, forcing it to run into the path of Violet's next attack, defeating it. Afterward, Arven used the Sweet Herba Mystica that Klawf was guarding to make sandwiches for everyone to enjoy.

In Challenge! The Avant-Garde Gym Leader!!, Nemona arrived in Artazon, where she reunited with Scarlet. In order to obtain more information on the treasures of ruin, Scarlet faced Brassius in a Gym battle and won. Although he had little information to provide, Brassius did inform Nemona and Scarlet that the treasures of ruin referred to a group of Pokémon. Nemona and Scarlet left to meet Hassel at the academy, as he was the one who told Brassius about the treasures of ruin in the first place.

In Decisive! The Battle in the Sky!!, Nemona decided to assist Scarlet with her treasure hunting endeavors. While heading to the academy, Scarlet received a call from her client, telling her to meet them in Levincia during the evening. After arriving, Nemona and Scarlet decided to kill time by challenging Iono, the Levincia Gym Leader. To protect Scarlet's identity as a treasure hunter, Nemona had Scarlet wear a disguise and act differently during the battle. After Scarlet emerged victorious, she went ahead to meet her client while Nemona took on Iono.

In PASV14, Nemona went looking for Scarlet when the latter didn't come back. She eventually ended up at East Province (Area One), where she found Violet and Clive in front of the Schedar Squad's Base. A phone call from Arven confirmed that he and Scarlet were in the middle of traveling together, alleviating Nemona's worries. She and Violet teamed up to raid the base, but Nemona's skill as a Champion-ranked Trainer caused her to quickly complete the Star Barrage first. Despite this, the Fire crew's boss, Mela, impatiently decided that because Violet was the one who issued the challenge, he should be brought to her regardless of how many Grunts he had beaten.

In PASV16, once she ran out Grunts to battle, Nemona returned to Violet, where she found him passed out from heat exhaustion. With her Quaxly's Rain Dance, Nemona revived Violet, which in turn caused Quaxly to evolve into Quaxwell. She then determined where the heat source was and had Quaxwell attack the culprits with Surf, revealing them to be a group of Charcadet led by Charlos, another Charcadet Mela had befriended. Mela scolded Charlos for interfering before continuing her battle with Violet, which eventually ended in the latter's victory. With her loss, Mela was forced to step down from her position as squad boss. Nemona and Violet learned from Penny that Arven and Scarlet went to East Province (Area Three) to take on the Lurking Steel Titan and took a Flying Taxi to meet with them.

In PASV18, Nemona and Violet made it to their destination, only to find it littered with giant holes. After locating the culprit, a Titan Orthworm, they immediately launched a combined attack against it. Orthworm ran away into its den, where it ate some Herba Mystica to heal its injuries and make itself more powerful. Before they were defeated, Nemona and Violet were saved by the timely arrival of Scarlet and Arven. Together, the four Trainers used their combined strength to send Orthworm falling down one of its pits, defeating it. While everyone enjoyed some of Arven's Herba Mystica sandwiches, they were interrupted by Cassiopeia, who requested that they raid the Navi Squad's Base.

In PASV19, Cassiopeia explained that a rogue faction of Grunts came up with a plan to raid the remaining bases themselves and take over Team Star. This would allow them to change the rules about stepping down when defeated, making further raids pointless. Violet and Arven wanted to go after the Quaking Earth Titan, so Nemona chose to go with Scarlet and raid the base in their place. Later, Nemona traveled to Tagtree Thicket alongside Scarlet, who had disguised herself as Violet to throw off Team Star. Before they could make it to the base, Nemona and Scarlet found themselves disoriented by Atticus's ninja techniques, causing them to pass out.

In PASV20, Nemona and Scarlet awakened inside the Navi Squad's Base, where they were greeted by Atticus, who had them taken to his quarters. Atticus admitted that while he wanted to protect the base, he wasn't willing to preemptively harm his opponents to do so. When Atticus mistakenly assumed Scarlet was a kunoichi, he became reluctant to battle a fellow ninja fanatic. Scarlet intentionally mocked Atticus's ninja hobby in order to anger him into not giving up the base without a fight. Despite being eager to take on the Star Barrage again, it was called off early due to a lack of available Grunts. Nemona returned to Scarlet, where she found her struggling to see properly due to the effects of another of Atticus's poison traps. Nemona tried helping by lending Clive's glasses to Scarlet, but to no avail. Despite this, Scarlet eventually won the battle once her Palafin changed into its Hero Form and easily took out Atticus and his Starmobile. After Atticus stepped down as squad boss, Nemona and Scarlet left the base, where they each received a phone call from someone asking to meet up with them. As Nemona's request from Geeta was exclusively for Champion-ranked Trainers, she was forced to split up from Scarlet.

In PASV25, Nemona met with Geeta and the Paldea Elite Four in Medali. They all questioned Nemona about what she knew about Scarlet. Reluctant to sell out her friend, Nemona focused on what kind of person she thought Scarlet was, intentionally omitting any information on Scarlet's checkered past. Once they were done, Nemona said her farewells and left. On Glaseado Mountain, Nemona called Scarlet, who was on her way to Montenevera. She mistakenly assumed Scarlet decided to continue challenging Gyms and told her the Pokémon League had set its eyes on her. While on her way to meet up with Scarlet, Nemona happened to see a Flying Taxi pass by containing several Team Star Grunts and a girl. Assuming the girl was Scarlet, she tried calling her Rotom Phone, but when the Grunts saw the caller was a Champion-ranked Trainer, they panicked and immediately tossed the phone out of the car.

The call was picked up by Grusha, who explained that the phone landed in front of his Gym. At Montenevera, Nemona met with Ryme and received Scarlet's phone from Grusha. Cassiopeia called and informed Nemona that Scarlet was taken to the Caph Squad's Base at North Province (Area Two). With no available Flying Taxis to board, Ryme suggested that Grusha help Nemona ride down the mountain's perilous slopes. After they reached the bottom, Grusha warned Nemona about Scarlet, revealing that the Gym Leaders were under orders by the Pokémon League to monitor her, as she was an unidentified person who illegally enrolled into Uva Academy under a false identity. Nemona chose to trust Scarlet despite the allegations put against her, but promised that she would use her strength as a Champion-ranked Trainer to stop Scarlet if she truly harbored any ill intentions toward the region. Later, while she traveled, Nemona received a phone call from an unknown caller. She answered, and to her surprise, it turned out to be Scarlet on the other line.

Later, after defeating the False Dragon Titan, Violet and Arven were called by Nemona, who urgently requested they meet her at the Pokémon Center at North Province (Area Three). At the Pokémon Center, Nemona found Arven waiting for her on his lonesome, which she assumed was because he and Violet had a fight. They both traveled to the Ruchbah Squad's Base to wait for the rebellious Grunts to launch their coup, only to be interrupted by Violet, who revealed that he wished to protect his acquaintance, Ortega, the Ruchbach Squad boss. Despite being frustrated by Violet's recklessness, Nemona assured Arven that it was alright since they all wanted to stop the Grunts' plans.
