Tyson (Japanese: テツヤ Tetsuya) is a Pokémon Trainer from Mauville City who became the champion of the Ever Grande Conference. He appeared between the episodes Like a Meowth to a Flame and Choose It or Lose It!.
Tyson first appeared in Like a Meowth to a Flame. He used his Meowth to rescue Ash and his friends from a flock of Murkrow, and they quickly became friends; as it turned out, they had all heading to the same place to eat. Tyson also has a certain fondness for food like May.
He then ran out in a hurry because he was supposed to be the torch-runner for the Conference. Ash and his friends later caught up with him talking to Mr. Goodshow, where he found out that Ash and Brock were also torch-runners in the past. Later, he helped in recovering the stolen flames of Moltres. He used his Metagross and its Confusion to stop Team Rocket's balloon. He also used his Meowth's Thunderbolt to send them away.
He was shown to be a powerful Trainer and, with his Meowth, he was able to make it into the top eight before battling Ash in Choose It or Lose It! and At the End of the Fray. Tyson won the match and soon made it to the finals, winning it and becoming the winner of the tournament.
