Grass Pledge (Japanese: くさのちかい Grass Oath) is a damage-dealing Grass-type move introduced in Generation V. Prior to Generation VII, only Grass-type first partner Pokémon and their evolutions could learn this move. It is TM146 in Generation IX.
Effect
This move effect may be in need of research. Reason: Does it work in tera raid battles? You can discuss this on the talk page. |
Grass Pledge inflicts damage.
When two allies attempt to use Grass Pledge and either Fire Pledge or Water Pledge on the same turn, the ally moving first will not itself use a move, but instead the ally moving second will use a combined attack with a power of 150 and an additional effect immediately after it:
- If Grass Pledge and Fire Pledge are used in the same turn, the ally moving second will use Fire Pledge with a power of 150, and create a sea of fire on the target's side of the field for four turns. The sea of fire damages all non-Fire-type Pokémon on that side of the field for 1/8 of their maximum HP at the end of each turn.
- If Grass Pledge and Water Pledge are used in the same turn, the ally moving second will use Grass Pledge with a power of 150, and create a swamp on the target's side of the field for four turns. This swamp quarters the Speed of all Pokémon on that side of the field.
If a Pokémon uses one Pledge move and a partner has selected another Pledge move, but none of its partners are able to use their selected Pledge move that turn (e.g. paralysis, Sky Drop, etc.), no move will be executed.
Grass Pledge is unaffected by a held Grass Gem (and will not consume it). If a combined move is used, it will always receive the same-type attack bonus no matter which Pokémon is the one executing it, or what type the combined move is.
Grass Pledge does not work in Sky Battles.
Generation V
It has a regular power of 50.
Generation VI onwards
Grass Pledge's regular power changed from 50 to 80.
Generation VIII
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Grass Pledge cannot be selected in a battle.

Various Move Tutors can teach Grass Pledge to any Grass-type first partner Pokémon of any evolutionary stage. From Generation VII onward, Move Tutors will also teach Grass Pledge to the Grass-type elemental monkeys, and starting in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, to Silvally. From Generation V to VII, Move Tutors will only teach this move to Pokémon with maximized friendship.
The Move Tutors who teach this move are:
- BW: a man in the house to the right of the market in Driftveil City.
- B2W2: a man outside of the Pokémon World Tournament building.
- XY: a man in Laverre City.
- ORAS: a man in a shop in Mauville City.
- SMUSUM: a man on the second level of Hau'oli City's mall.
- SwSh: a man in Hammerlocke.

Trivia
- Starting in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Silvally can be taught Grass Pledge, Fire Pledge, and Water Pledge via move tutor. However, due to a programming error, the Move Tutor will only offer to teach it Grass Pledge, making the other two moves unobtainable.
