Briar (Japanese: ブライア Briar) is a character introduced in The Teal Mask in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. She is a teacher at Blueberry Academy, the descendant of historian Heath, and also the one in possession of the original Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV.
In the core series games
Briar first appears after the Treasure Hunt main story starts. The player learns that Briar is a descendant of Heath, the author of the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV.[1] She owns the original copy of the book, which contains unredacted information on the Pokémon Terapagos.[2] As Heath was discredited for his writings in the book, Briar seeks to find Terapagos to prove Heath's theories correct. While waiting for her request to enter Area Zero to be approved, she leads the player and several other students on a class trip to Kitakami.
During The Teal Mask story, Briar does research on the land while Carmine, Kieran, the player, and other students explore Kitakami. Briar appears at Crystal Pool after the player and Carmine defeats a Milotic. She explains that the crystals found in Kitakami emit energy similar to Terastal energy found in Paldea. Briar believes she can find a way to use the Terastal phenomenon usable outside of Paldea, bringing her closer to finding Terapagos. After the player defeats Carmine, Briar calls Carmine and the player to meet up in the community center. Briar reveals that she, Carmine, and Kieran are returning to Blueberry Academy earlier due to a development at the Great Crater of Paldea. Due to this, the trip to Kitakami ends earlier. Between the end of The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, Briar has traveled to many different regions with Carmine assisting her. Eventually, she was able to create a special "Terarium Core" that hung on the top of the Terarium, allowing Terstalization to occur in Blueberry Academy.
Briar returns in The Indigo Disk after the player defeats Kieran. She later was permitted by Geeta to finally start a new expedition to Area Zero alongside the player, Kieran, and Carmine. During the trip, she discovers the Area Zero Underdepths and the 19th Tera Type, Stellar-type. After reaching the deepest part of the Area Zero Underdepths, she and Kieran awaken Terapagos. After Kieran captures Terapagos, she encourages him and the player to fight to see Terapagos's true power. After Kieran loses, Briar suggests he Terastallize Terapagos to see its full power. Upon seeing Terapagos Stellar Form, she declares this is the Hidden treasure of Area Zero. However, this causes Terapagos to lose control and cause havoc. She then watches the player, Carmine, and Kieran defeat Terapagos, resulting in the player's capturing of it. She then apologized for her reckless behavior and obsession. Upon talking to the player in Classroom 1-4, she apologies and reveals that the player, Carmine, and Kieran's Tera Orbs have been powered up due to Terapagos, allowing them to Terastalize without the need to recharge.
