Terminology
Lucas (Japanese: コウキ Kouki) is his name when he appears as a non-player character in the core series games, and is also the name of Lucas in Pokémon Masters EX.

Some screenshots of Platinum on the Japanese Nintendo website refer to Lucas as プラット (Plat). A trailer for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl refers to Lucas in English as "Koki", his Japanese official name.

Lucas lives in Twinleaf Town with his mother and dreams big, so he and his Barry (and soon-to-be rival) have high hopes of catching the Mesprit of their nearby lake. After meeting Professor Rowan and his assistant Dawn, they are attacked by wild Starly and, as a last resort, use the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. After bringing the Pokémon back Lucas receives the Pokémon he used as well as a Pokédex and goes on to gather the eight Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic and conquer the Pokémon League all before taking on the Battle Tower.
Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Lucas lives in Twinleaf Town with his mother. Lucas and Barry both see a television program about a red Gyarados, so the two head to the nearby Lake Verity in search of a similar Pokémon. As the enter the lake area, Professor Rowan and his assistant Dawn are leaving, but have inadvertently left a briefcase behind. Lucas and Barry wander into the tall grass, but are suddenly attacked by wild Starly; as a last resort, they each use one of the Pokémon in the briefcase the Professor has forgotten. The two take their Pokémon to Sandgem Town to return them to Professor Rowan, but Rowan decides to let the two keep their Pokémon, and also gives them each a Pokédex.

In Platinum, Lucas and Barry instead go to visit Professor Rowan at his lab rather than go to the lake in search of a Pokémon of the same rarity as a red Gyarados. They receive their Pokémon on 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon as to attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.
Lucas goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. He has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either Dialga or Palkia to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.

In Pokémon Platinum, Team Galactic attempts to use both Dialga and Palkia, but they are stopped by Giratina. Finally, Lucas has to go to the Distortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.

Years later, his exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who defeated her.

In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the player character from Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and their exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who had defeated her.

If the player chooses Dawn, he will become Rowan's assistant for the game. Lucas lives in Sandgem Town with his little sister, grandfather, and father—who works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. He is already the Professor's assistant at the beginning of the game. He has already received his starter Pokémon before the player (a Turtwig, Chimchar or Piplup, whichever is weak to the player's starter). He also demonstrates to the player how to capture Pokémon by capturing a wild Bidoof.
If the player chooses Dawn, Lucas appears in the game as an NPC. He serves as Professor Rowan's assistant. He lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who also works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. He received his first partner Pokémon before the player, having either a Turtwig, Chimchar or Piplup—the Pokémon he has is always the one that has a type disadvantage against the player's first partner Pokémon.

He demonstrates how to catch Pokémon to the player by catching a wild Bidoof.

Lucas (Japanese: コウキ Kouki) is the male player character of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum and their Generation VIII remakes Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. His female counterpart is Dawn.

Terminology

Lucas (Japanese: コウキ Kouki) is his name when he appears as a non-player character in the core series games, and is also the name of his counterpart in Pokémon Masters EX.

Some screenshots of Pokémon Platinum on the Japanese Nintendo website refer to Lucas as プラット (Plat).[2] A trailer for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl refers to Lucas in English as "Koki", his Japanese official name.

In the core series games

As the protagonist

Lucas goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. He has to stop Team Galactic from trying to use either DialgaDBD or PalkiaPSP to destroy the entire universe in order to create a new one.

Pokémon Platinum

Lucas lives in Twinleaf Town with his mother. Lucas and Barry both see a television program about Professor Rowan, so the two head to Sandgem Town to visit Professor Rowan at his lab to get some Pokémon of their own. They receive their Pokémon on Route 201 when Professor Rowan realizes that they are so dedicated to Pokémon that they would attempt to travel from Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town through the tall grass without any Pokémon of their own.

Lucas goes on to gather the eight Gym Badges of Sinnoh, defeat Team Galactic, and conquer the Pokémon League. He has to go to the Distortion World and face Giratina, in order to stop both worlds from destroying each other.

Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2

In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the player character from Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and their exploits are referenced by Cynthia, who remembers a young Trainer who had defeated her.

As a non-playable character

If the player chooses Dawn, Lucas appears in the game as an NPC. He serves as Professor Rowan's assistant. He lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father—who also works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. He received his first partner Pokémon before the player, having either a Turtwig, Chimchar or Piplup—the Pokémon he has is always the one that has a type disadvantage against the player's first partner Pokémon.

He demonstrates how to catch Pokémon to the player by catching a wild Bidoof.
