Meganium is a quadrupedal, pale-green reptilianPokémon that resembles a sauropoddinosaur. It has a long neck, yellow eyes, a pair of stamen-like feelers, and a short, blunt snout. The feelers are shorter on a female than on a male. Around Meganium's neck is a large pink flower with six petals ending in a frilly white edge, with a short, spiky, yellow pattern on the center. It has a stubby tail and three claws on each foot.
Meganium's petals release an aroma that calms aggressive feelings, and its breath has the power to revive dead grass and plants. Its soothing, regenerative powers can even affect those who stand nearby. Meganium tends to be very docile and has been portrayed as a peacemaker in the Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire episode Odd Pokémon Out!. It can rarely be found living in grasslands. As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, many Pokémon tend to sleep peacefully side-by-side with Meganium.[1] The reason is fragrance given off by Meganium's flower soothes and calms emotions of any Pokémon fighting near it.
As a result of Mega Evolution, Mega Meganium underwent rapid growth,[2] making its body bigger and increasing the number of large flowers around its neck to four. The flowers are noticeably thicker than on regular Meganium, have each a different color (from top to bottom: red, dark pink, light pink, and white), and have six petals ending in a pointy tip, with a spiky pattern branching radially from the center on three of these petals. This pattern is red on the white flower and white in all of the others. Mega Meganium's stamen-like feelers branch from a single point as a V-shape and curl onto themselves near the tip. Its tail has grown, and the bottom of each of its legs is covered in dark green frills that resemble foliage.
Mega Meganium can detect changes in the weather with its feelers, allowing it to seek out places where it can photosynthesize more efficiently. Accordingly, its four flowers store up massive amounts of solar energy, producing a fragrant substance that, depending on the dosage inhaled, can either calm down or cause agitation on those who smell it. The accumulated solar power also allows Mega Meganium to unleash powerful Solar Beams instantly from its four flowers, a move also known as "Mega Sol Cannon". Due to its larger body, Mega Meganium's physical capabilities have been improved, and it tramples foes when its Solar Beams prove to not be very effective, which is said to be due to Mega Evolution making its fighting style bolder.[2]

Meganium's evolutionary line are the only first partner Pokémon evolutionary line to keep their Japanese voices in the English dub of the animated series. This is due to them having nearly identical names in English and Japanese (with Meganium even being spelled identically to its official Japanese romanization).
Meganium's design has slightly changed over the years. Its original design in Gold and Silver had orange petals, round green inner petals, and florets around the base of the neck. In Crystal Version, Meganium's flower was changed to be closer to the modern design, save for a pair of stripes on each petal. These stripes would remain until their removal in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Origin
Hanamogura (ハナモグラ)
Meganium has the appearance of a sauropod, particularly an Apatosaurus. Its flower seems to be based on a type of hybrid daylily with ruffled edges and its long neck makes it similar to the titan arum. It may also draw inspiration from geraniums, as suggested by its name. Meganium's design may have also been influenced by Aachenosaurus, an ancient plant whose fossils were once believed to belong to a dinosaur. Its proportions and face resemble those of the herbivorous Galápagos tortoises, with its neck flower resembling the way their shells open at the front.
