Crabominable (Japanese: ケケンカニ Kekenkani) is a dual-type Fighting/Ice Pokémon introduced in Generation VII.

It evolves from Crabrawler when leveled up at Mount Lanakila or when exposed to an Ice Stone.

Biology

Crabominable is a crustacean Pokémon that resembles a yeti crab. Its body is ovoid and mostly covered in white fur, which is particularly fluffy under its mouth, around its shoulders, and near the tip of its pincers. Some parts of its body remain exposed, namely its face, chest, abdomen, the tip of its legs, and small, oval areas on its arms and back. The exposed areas on its chest, arms, abdomen, and back have a desaturated dark purple color, with the abdomen also having light blue stripes, and resemble developed, bulging muscles. Its face is blue, featuring two circular eyes with slanted black pupils and a large mouth with two blunt, square teeth always visible. On top of its head, there is a patch of yellow fur with two tufts extending upwards. It has three pairs of legs: the foremost one is the largest, segmented into three parts that grow in size as they distance from the body, and ends in a large, rounded, light blue pincer with a desaturated dark purple, pawprint-shaped marking on the tip, while the remaining pairs are shorter and end in a light blue tip.

Its Evolution and newly-developed fur are said to be the result of its adaptation to the bitter cold of snowy mountains after it got lost while attemping to climb one. Its pincers can store cold energy and, as seen in Pokémon Refresh, are freezing to the touch; the same thing happens for the tips of its smaller legs. Crabominable is described as impulsive, with a tendency to act before thinking, but the blows it deals with its pincers are powerful enough to smash ice walls or halt avalanches. It moves about sluggishly and, to counteract this, fires icy bubbles from its mouth to freeze its opponents in place. In desperate times, it can even fire off its pincers like rockets at opponents. The detached pincers are said to have a delicious taste, and some Trainers even venture into the mountains with Lechonk just to find them.

Prior to Generation IX, Crabominable was the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Ice Hammer.

Crabominable can Mega Evolve into Mega Crabominable.

As a result of Mega Evolution, Mega Crabominable has grown significantly bulkier. Despite this, it now stands only on its rearmost pair of legs, which have been encased in a long, sharp, blue icicle. The fur near the tip of its pincers has turned a desaturated dark purple, and the tips themselves have been covered in a dense layer of ice with five spikes, similar to a mace. Crabominable's patch of yellow hair has turned mostly white, with only some highlights and a single tuft being yellow, and grown in all directions over its head, including over its face, which is obscured in darkness with only its glowing eyes visible. The hair also extends down its back, reaching all the way to the tip of its rearmost legs. Mega Crabominable has longer fur under its shoulders and chest, as well as completely blank eyes.

Mega Crabominable is powerful enough to pulverize reinforced concrete with just a light swing of its ice-covered pincers. It can also use its pincers to help it move forward along with its powerful legs. In case two Mega Crabominable meet, the ensuing battle poses a potential risk of destroying the area where they engage in combat.

Crabominable debuted in Thieving and Boss Crabominable as the leader of a group of Crabrawler. They attacked Sun on Poni Island when he tried to retrieve the Mirage Berry they stole from him. He later joined Sun's team and was nicknamed Loot.

• Crabominable is the only Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII (outside of regional forms).
• No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Crabominable.
• Crabominable and its pre-evolved form are the only Fighting-type Pokémon with an insectoid body, and the only Fighting-type Pokémon in the Water 3 Egg Group.
  • Additionally, Crabominable is the only Ice-type Pokémon to have an insectoid body.
• Crabominable is the only Ice-type Pokémon introduced prior to Generation VIII that cannot be obtained in any Generation VIII game.
• Mega Crabominable is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 578.

Origin

Crabominable may be based on a horsehair crab. Additionally, some of its traits are reminiscent of coconut crabs, professional boxers, and the mythical yeti. The very nature of its design may be an allusion to yeti crabs.

Name origin

Crabominable may be a combination of crab and abominable snowman.

Kekenkani may be a combination of 毛蟹 kegani (horsehair crab) and 喧嘩 kenka (fight).
