Missions (Japanese: ミッション mission) are quests in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. There are three distinct classifications of tasks in the game: main missions (Japanese: メインミッション main mission), which are main quests required to progress the base game's story, hyperspace missions (Japanese: 異次元ミッション otherdimensional missions), which are main quests required to progress the story of the Mega Dimension DLC, and side missions (Japanese: サイドミッション side missions), which are sidequests that do not play major roles in the main story but offer material rewards to the player.

Each task has several objectives. When the player completes the listed objective, either they will receive new objectives or the task will be marked as complete.

Main missions

Main missions are the main story quests in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Main missions are usually completed in sequential order, though occasionally the player will have access to multiple main missions at once that can be completed in any order. Additionally, it is possible to complete Mission 42: To Keep the World in Balance before Mission 39: The Infinite Z-A Royale.

The credits roll at the end of main mission 37; as such, main missions 38-42 are considered postgame. Mission 38: The Future of Lumiose City is the only postgame main mission that is required to be completed in order to unlock the Mega Dimension DLC. Main mission objectives are visible on the map with a yellow hexagonal symbol.

  • Choose a Pokémon to help you out!
  • Order your Pokémon to use its moves on Pancham so you can defeat it!
 Leave the Gare de Lumiose.
02 Escape from the Battle Zone! The city changes a lot when the sun goes down. Find your way out of this "battle zone" and retreat to safety of Hotel Z with the help of your new friend Urbain/Taunie.
  • Head to the safe spot that Urbain/Taunie said he/she knows of.
  • Go into Hotel Z.
  • Get checked in to Hotel Z at the front counter.
  • Take the elevator up and find room 202.
  • Lie down on your bed and get a good night’s sleep at last.
  • Answer the door to see what Urbain/Taunie wants.
 Complete Mission 1: "Get Your Travel Bag Back!"
03 A New Life in Lumiose City It's been one unexpected development after another, bit your new life in Lumiose is off to an exciting start. Have your new friend Urbain/Taunie show you the ropes.
  • Meet up with your new friend in the lobby.
  • Have a Pokémon battle with Urbain/Taunie in front of the hotel.
  • Visit the Pokémon Center in front of the Gare de Lumiose.
  • Learn all about Pokémon Centers.
  • Visit a wild zone to catch Pokémon.
  • Throw a Poké Ball to catch Fletchling!
  • Use your Pokémon’s moves to reduce Bunnelby’s HP, then throw a Poké Ball at it to try to catch it.
  • Register at least five species of Pokémon in your Pokédex, then head to the Pokémon Research Lab for your reward.
  • Go report your Pokédex-filling success at the Pokémon Research Lab.
  • Open the main menu to check out your research requests from Mable.
  • Return to Hotel Z to meet up with Urbain/Taunie.
 Complete Mission 2: "Escape from the Battle Zone!"
04 Battling the Z-A Royale To take part in a promotion match, you must first take on other Trainers in the battle zone to earn yourself a ticket. Clear this initial hurdle, then reach Rank Y!
  • Learn about the Z A Royale from Urbain/Taunie.
  • Earn Ticket Points by battling Trainers in the battle zone.
  • Meet up with Urbain/Taunie at the nearby Pokémon Center.
  • Find Zach at the taxi lot for your promotion match.
 Complete Mission 3: "A New Life in Lumiose City"
05 The City in the Shadow of Prism Tower Urbain/Taunie is here to show you more facets of Lumiose City. What kinds of experiences await you in this lively metropolis?
  • Head down to the lobby on 1F.
  • Head outside.
  • Learn the “secret shortcut” from Urbain/Taunie.
  • Smash the Mega Crystals using one of your Pokémon’s moves.
  • Take the secret route over the rooftops with Urbain/Taunie.
  • Take a leap of faith down to Urbain/Taunie.
  • Meet up with Urbain/Taunie at the Nouveau Café truck near Centrico Plaza.
  • Head to Emma’s detective agency with Urbain/Taunie.
  • Complete three side missions, using the icons on your map as your guide.
  • Report to Emma that you completed all three side missions.
  • Learn about Mega Evolution from Emma.
 Complete Mission 4: "Battling the Z-A Royale"
06 Reaching Rank X Your opponent for your next promotion match has been decided: an office worker named Yvon. Earn points and get yourself a ticket so you can aim for Rank X!
  • Get a Challenger’s Ticket, then find Yvon for your promotion match.
 Complete Mission 5: "The City in the Shadow of Prism Tower"
07 Reaching Rank W Your opponent for your next promotion match has been decided: a grade-schooler named Xavi. Earn points and get yourself a ticket so you can aim for Rank W!
  • Battle Naveen in front of Hotel Z.
  • Get a Challenger’s Ticket, then find Xavi for your promotion match.
 Complete Mission 6: "Reaching Rank X"
08 Reaching Rank V Your opponent for your next promotion match has been decided: a waiter named Rintaro. Earn points and get yourself a ticket so you can aim for Rank V!
  • Find Lida to give her the things she left behind at the hotel.
  • Battle Lida in the empty lot where she practices among the back streets.
  • Get a Challenger’s Ticket, then find Rintaro for your promotion match.

09 Chase That Mysterious Pokémon! A mysterious Pokémon appeared before you, and it seems to want you to follow it...
  • Chase after Zygarde! Don’t lose sight of it!

10 The Secrets of Mega Evolution Mega Rings, Mega Stones, and bonds with your Pokémon... It seems there is much for you to learn before you'll truly understand Mega Evolution.
  • Talk to Urbain/Taunie, then set out for the offices of Quasartico Inc.
  • Give Absol a Mega Stone to hold, then battle Urbain/Taunie!
  • Go to Quasartico Inc. to meet Vinnie.
  • Go to the battle court to see what Vinnie has to say.
  • Get a Challenger’s Ticket, then return to Vinnie for your promotion match.
  • Head into the Quasartico Inc. office building to learn the whole story from Vinnie.
  • Leave the Quasartico Inc. building for now.
  • Stop by Nouveau Café for refreshments.
  • Return to Hotel Z for a strategy meeting.
  • Take care of all three cases of Rogue Mega Evolution.
  • Return to Hotel Z.

  • Battle the Racine Construction worker.

14 Reaching Rank E Your opponent for your next promotion match has been decided: the wildly popular streamer Canari. You’ll have to track her down and defeat her to move up a rank!
  • Battle Naveen to get the information you need about Canari.
  • Get a Challenger’s Ticket, then talk to Naveen for your next steps.
  • Meet up with Naveen at the site of the Canari Quiz Whiz Contest.
  • Enter the Canari Quiz Whiz Contest!
  • The claim: Canari is crazy good at falling- block puzzle games. Head to the ✓ area if you think it’s true or the × area if false!
  • The claim: Macarons are Canari’s favorite food. Head to the ✓ area if you think it’s true or the × area if false!

  • Head to Racine Construction, following the instructions you got from Canari.
  • Investigate the small room in the garage at the Racine Construction headquarters.
  • Face off against Canari in your promotion match.

15 A Job for Team MZ! Vinnie has alerted you to three more cases of Rogue Mega Evolution. Take care of them all to keep Lumiose City safe!
  • Begin another Team MZ strategy meeting.
  • Go join Urbain/Taunie on the rooftops behind Hotel Z.
  • Use Roto-Glide to make your way across the rooftops.
  • Take care of all three cases of Rogue Mega Evolution.
  • Return to Hotel Z.

16 A Rogue Mega Beedrill A high concentration of Mega Power has been detected around a Beedrill in the Vert District. Face it in battle using the Mega Ring you were granted!

  • Follow Ivor to the Looker Bureau.
  • Go to city hall to try to find Ivor’s little sister, Gwynn.
  • Question bystanders around city hall to try to figure out where Gwynn has gone.
  • Head to Nouveau Café in the hope of catching Gwynn there.
  • Talk to Canari to figure out where Gwynn might have been heading.
  • Head to the courtyard that features a Clawitzer fountain to try to find Gwynn.
  • Fire off the Ice-type move Ice Beam at the Clawitzer fountain.
  • Enter the sewers from the door near the Clawitzer fountain.
  • Make your way deeper into the sewers in search of Gwynn.
  • Examine the lock that seems to block your way through the sewers.
  • Chase after the Pokémon Klefki, with its many keys!
  • Catch the Klefki that seems likely to be holding the key you need.
  • Make your way deeper into the sewers in search of Gwynn.

  • Investigate all the suspicious-looking spots to find a way out of this seeming dead end.
  • Pass through the illusory wall to continue deeper into the sewers.

20 A Request from the Rust Syndicate It's come to light that Urbain/Taunie has gotten deep into debt with the Rust Syndicate. Team MZ needs to fix this disaster—the sooner, the better!
  • Head to the Rust Syndicate headquarters.
  • Battle Philippe of the Rust Syndicate.
  • Have a calm, rational discussion at the Rust Syndicate headquarters.
  • Return to Hotel Z to tell the others about what happened with the Rust Syndicate.
  • Begin another Team MZ strategy meeting.
  • Take care of all three cases of Rogue Mega Evolution.
  • Return to Hotel Z.
  • Take care of the “troublemakers” holed up in the shady old building.
  • Clear all the Pokémon out of the rundown old building and report back to the requester.
  • Tidy up “undesirable elements” that have accumulated in the city’s shadowy corners.
  • Smash all the Mega Crystals underground, then report back to the Rust Syndicate grunt.
  • Clear up the trouble with the “outsiders” the Rust Syndicate wants you to deal with.
  • Battle the Trainers from the Lumiose Society of Battle Connoisseurs.
  • Go with Corbeau to check out the commotion in front of the bank.
  • Return to Hotel Z.
  • Go to meet Corbeau at the Rust Syndicate headquarters.

  • Visit the ultra-exclusive Boutique Couture.
  • Defeat the designer in battle while your Pokémon is Mega Evolved.
  • Head to Hotel Richissime, where the party is to be held.
  • Speak to Lebanne, who is in charge of the party reception at Hotel Richissime.
  • Return to Hotel Z for a strategy meeting.
  • Begin another Team MZ strategy meeting.
  • Take care of all three cases of Rogue Mega Evolution.
  • Return to Hotel Z.

  • Go to the Pokémon Research Lab to ask Mable about Grisham.
  • Order up a promotion match at the Nouveau Café truck.
  • Go to meet Grisham at the location you were sent.
  • Battle Griselle.
  • Enter the abandoned café.
  • Take the hidden passage to enter Lysandre Labs.
  • Search Lysandre Labs to find the Elevator Key you need.
  • Use the elevator to reach Lysandre Labs’ B3F.
  • Go to the research lab in Lysandre Labs’ B3F.
  • Talk to Grisham again in Lysandre Café.
  • Hear what AZ has to say, then decide how you will move forward.
  • Get a Challenger’s Ticket, then find Grisham for your promotion match.

  • Head out to see what in the world is going on!
  • Meet the others in front of Prism Tower.
  • Have a final battle against Urbain/Taunie.
  • Talk to Vinnie about Team MZ’s last big job.
  • Climb down from the rooftops and see how the situation is on the ground.
 Complete Mission 35: "Reaching Rank A"
37 Operation Protect Lumiose Throw aside past rivalries and work together to save the city and your friends! You know your destination—now go find Zygarde where it waits for you!
  • Head for the spot where you’re supposed to meet Ivor and Gwynn.
  • Continue onward with Ivor.
  • Head for the spot where you’re supposed to meet Canari and her crew.
  • Overcome the maze of scaffolding to continue onward.
  • Head for the spot where you’re supposed to meet Jacinthe and Lebanne.
  • Head for the spot where you’re supposed to meet Corbeau and his crew.
  • Continue on to meet up with Corbeau and his crew.
  • Climb the human ladder to reach the rooftops.
  • Get across the rooftops to reach your final destination.
  • Make your way to your final destination with Zygarde.
 Complete Mission 36: "Prism Tower's Dark Turn"
38 The Future of Lumiose City Things are beginning to return to normal in Lumiose after the trouble at the tower. What will you and Urbain/Taunie decide to do with the wishes you earned by reaching Rank A?

  • Go talk to Vinnie and the others in Centrico Plaza.
 Complete Mission 37: "Operation Protect Lumiose" and watch the credits roll
39 The Infinite Z-A Royale The curtains have drawn back on the Infinite Z-A Royale! Collect Challenger's Tickets so you can take part in reward matches for the fabulous prizes they offer!
  • Try your hand at the Infinite Z-A Royale.
  • Return to Hotel Z to hear what Lida needs from you.
  • Keep on battling in the Infinite Z-A Royale!
  • Head to the offices of Quasartico Inc.
  • Keep on battling in the Infinite Z-A Royale!
    • After completing the mission, this becomes a permanent objective on the Menu screen.
 Complete Mission 38: "The Future of Lumiose City"
40 The One That Gives Work together with Mable, who was once a member of Team Flare, to protect Lumiose City from the threat of "the one that gives."
  • Talk to Mable to learn more about “the one that gives.”
  • Complete Mable’s research task about the anomalous alpha Pokémon, and find out what her analysis reveals.
  • Search for Xerneas in Wild Zone 11.
  • Catch Xerneas!
 Hotel Z Complete Mission 38: "The Future of Lumiose City"
41 The One That Takes Work together with Grisham and Vinnie to protect Lumiose City from the threat of "the one that takes."
  • Talk to Grisham to learn more about “the one that takes.”
  • Meet up with Grisham at the offices of Quasartico Inc.
  • Defeat every Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon in everybody’s favorite Rogue Mega Evolution Simulator 3000.
  • Search for Yveltal on the roof of the Galerie de la Lune in the Rouge District.

Hyperspace missions

Hyperspace missions are analogous to main missions, but are exclusive to the Mega Dimension DLC.

The credits roll at the end of Hyperspace mission 11; as such, Hyperspace missions 12-14 are considered postgame. Hyperspace mission objectives are visible on the map with a blue-purple diamond symbol.

Side missions are sidequests in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Requests are offered by characters around the Lumiose City and marked by blue circles. Some side missions have certain prerequisites that need to be met before they become available. Extra side missions (Japanese: ＥＸサイドミッション EX side missions) are unlocked through Mystery Gift. While most side missions are optional, the first three are required to complete Main Mission 5: "The City in the Shadow of Prism Tower", and side mission 120 is required to initiate the Mega Dimension DLC.
