In the core series games

Mega Shards can be found by having Pokémon break clusters of Mega Crystals scattered around Lumiose City or Hyperspace wild zones.

Effect

Mega Shards can be exchanged for Mega Stones, Exp. Candies, and Power items at the Quasartico Inc. headquarters. Five can be used at the Rust Syndicate to reset a chosen Pokémon's base points to zero for all of its stats.

In the Mega Dimension DLC, they can also be exchanged at the Mega Shard Exchange in Vert Sector 7 for TMs, Feathers and Genesect's Drives. 999 are required to get Magearna and its Mega Stone.

Games Description ZA A mysterious shard that can be found after smashing Mega Crystals using Pokémon moves. It seems that some people collect these shards.

• Despite the fact that it is used as a currency, players can only have 9,999 Mega Shards at any given time.
  • Prior to Version 2.0.1, the maximum amount of Mega Shards a player could have was 999, matching the maximum capacity of any other item.
• Mega Shards are the only item in Pokémon Legends: Z-A with a maximum capacity of 9,999, let alone at least 1,000.
