The Protein (Japanese: タウリン Taurine vitamin introduced in Generation I . It increases the Attack of a Pokémon.
In the core series games Price In Pokémon Crystal , Protein costs $ Goldenrod Department Store rooftop sale . In Hoenn , Protein costs $ Energy Guru sale.
At Join Avenue 's Market, Protein can be bought in dozens at $ $
Effect Generation I to II When used from the Bag on a Pokémon, adds 2560 Attack Stat Experience to the target Pokémon per use, until it has 25600 Attack Stat Experience. In Generation II , it also increases the Pokémon's friendship a little.
The Protein is consumed upon use and cannot be used in battle.
Generation III to VII When used from the Bag on a Pokémon, adds 10 Attack EVs to the target Pokémon per use, until it has 100 Attack EVs. It also increases the Pokémon's friendship a little.
The Protein is consumed upon use and cannot be used in battle.
Generation VIII onward Protein can now be used even on a Pokémon that has 100 Attack EVs or more, allowing the Attack EVs to be raised to the single-stat cap of 252 or the total cap of 510 this way.

Price Effect A consumable item that raises the Attack of Pokémon that ingests it by 3, or 2 starting in Gates to Infinity. It also restores 5 Belly in the Rescue Team and Explorers games, or 2 in Super Mystery Dungeon. The stat cannot be increased beyond 255.
If thrown, it will grant the same effect as if it was consumed by the Pokémon it hits (it cannot be caught); if it is sticky , it will also deal 2 damage. Protein can be blended into a drink at Spinda's Juice Bar , although it has no special effects.
