The Sail Fossil (Japanese: ヒレのカセキFin Fossil) is a fossil introduced in Generation VI that can be regenerated into Amaura. It is the counterpart of the Jaw Fossil.
A Sail Fossil made a brief appearance in a flashback in Coming Back into the Cold!. It was discovered from a glacier by a group of researchers from the Ambrette Town Fossil Lab, and it was eventually revived into two Amaura, one of which later evolved into an Aurorus.
The Sail Fossil was introduced as an Item card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game in the Furious Fists expansion, first released in the Japanese Rising Fist expansion. It allows players to look at the bottom seven cards of their deck, reveal an Amaura they find there, and put it onto their Bench. The other six cards are then shuffled back into the deck.
The Mega Evolution Series saw the release of Antique Sail Fossil in the Perfect Order expansion, first released in the Japanese Nihil Zero expansion. This card is unlike the previous Sail Fossil card and more in line with other Item cards depicting Fossils, allowing the player to play it onto the Bench as if it were a Colorless-typeBasic Pokémon. It has an Ability that prevents all effects of Supporter cards played from the opponent's hand done to it.
A Sail Fossil is also featured on Unidentified Fossil cards. These cards are played as if they were Basic Pokémon and can evolve into Amaura.
