Gorebyss (Japanese: サクラビス Sakurabyss) is a Water Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Gorebyss (Japanese: サクラビス Sakurabyss) is a Water Pokémon.
It evolves from Clamperl when Trade while holding a Deep Sea Scale. It is one of Clamperl's final forms, the other being Huntail.

It evolves from Clamperl via trade with a Evolution-inducing held item. It is one of Clamperl two final forms.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Gorebyss is a pink, serpentine Pokémon with a long, thin mouth. This pointed mouth is used to stab prey and drain their body fluids. However, it has also been known to feed on seaweed that grows between stones. Its pink skin becomes brighter in the spring and after it has fed. Its body color changes with water temperature, with Gorebyss found in Alola having blindingly vivid coloration. A long, purple-tipped fin extends from the top of its head, and there is a thin, pointed fin extending beneath its head. There are two purple shells on its chest, causing it to somewhat resemble a mermaid. The tail has a purple, circular fin at the tip, and two white bands near its base.
Gorebyss resembles a pink eel-like creature with a long thin mouth, and two shell-like structures on its chest which makes it resemble a mermaid. Gorebyss also has a purple-tipped antenna-like fin on top of its head, a similar, if shorter fin below its mouth, and two small eyelashes on each eye. Gorebyss's tail has two bands of lighter coloration, and at the tip of it is a rounded purple fin. Gorebyss's shape suggests that it was modeled after a Pipefish or Snipe eel.

Gender differences
This Pokémon's body is durable enough to withstand high-pressure levels in the deep List of Pokémon by habitat, where it lives. Additionally, this adaptation allows it to withstand powerful attacks.
None.

Special abilities
Evolution
Its body is extremely durable, so as to withstand the extreme hydrostatic pressures exercised to it at such a depth, which explains its high Defense stat.
Gorebyss evolves from Clamperl and is one of its final forms, the other being Huntail.

It also uses its thin mouth to pick food from small openings. Its mouth can also serve as a strong spear-like weapon when it's hunting down prey. Gorebyss's light pink body color becomes more vivid after feeding on prey, and also becomes more vivid in the springtime for some reason.
(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

Behavior
{{Evobox-2
Despite its elegant and beautiful appearance, Gorebyss can seem very cruel when it comes to hunting and battle, not hesitating to use its sharp, thin mouth to stab its prey into submission.

Habitat
Gorebyss lives deep under the seas, and it can withstand the immense pressure that can be found at such extreme depths.
Diet
Pokémon food
Gorebyss is an omnivore, and its basic diet consists of seaweed found in between rocks. It also uses its needle-like mouth to stab its prey, and then it proceeds to suck out its internal fluids.
In the anime
Gorebyss first appeared alongside Huntail in The Evolutionary War, where residents of a trio of islands cannot agree on which of Clamperl's two evolutions are better.
A Gorebyss appeared in Up Close and Personable!.

Trivia
Trivia
* Gorebyss's Pokédex entry in states that it is a carnivorous hunter; however, its  entry also states that it is herbivorous.
* Despite being a pure Water Pokémon, Gorebyss bears a Psychic Poké Assist in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.
** It is possible, however, that Gorebyss is an omnivore, for neither entry states it eats only plants/meat.
* From Generations IV to VII, Gorebyss is unable to learn Iron Defense via Move Tutor, while its pre-evolution can.
* Gorebyss is stated to suck the fluids out of its victim. However, it's unable to learn Leech Life or Giga Drain.
* Despite being a pure Water Pokémon, it bears a Psychic Poké Assist in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.
*Gorebyss has the second highest Special Attack of all non legendary Water-types, being just one point below Omastar's.
**Therefore, Gorebyss has the highest Special Attack of all the pure, non-legendary Water-types

Name origin
Name origin
Gorebyss's name is a combination of gore, to stab, and abyss; byss could also be referring to the byssal threads mussels use to attach themselves to rocks. Its name could also possibly be a play on gorgeous. Gorebyss's descriptions seem to confirm this view.
Gorebyss may be a combination of gore (bloodshed; to pierce), gorgeous, and abyss.

Its Japanese name is derived from the Japanese 桜 sakura, cherry blossom, possibly referring to its pink color, and the aforementioned byss.

Gorebyss (Japanese: サクラビス Sakurabyss) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Clamperl when traded while holding a Deep Sea Scale. It is one of Clamperl's final forms, the other being Huntail.

Biology

This Pokémon's body is durable enough to withstand high-pressure levels in the deep sea, where it lives. Additionally, this adaptation allows it to withstand powerful attacks.

Evolution

Gorebyss evolves from Clamperl and is one of its final forms, the other being Huntail.

(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)
