Dude (Japanese: おにいさん Dude) is a Trainer on Route 29 right outside New Bark Town in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. He notices the player pass by a few times and decides to teach them how to catch Pokémon. He is the Generation II equivalent of the old man and was replaced with Lyra or Ethan in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

The battle screen also shows that he has a single, unseen, Pokémon on his team during the capture tutorial.
Quotes

- After talk with Policeman and Prof. Elm
- "I've seen you a couple times. How many Pokémon have you caught? Would you like me to show you how to catch Pokémon?"
- No
- "Oh, fine then. Anyway, if you want to catch Pokémon, you have to walk a lot."
- If talked to again
- "Huh? You want me to show you how to catch Pokémon?"
- No
- "Oh, fine then. Anyway, if you want to catch Pokémon, you have to walk a lot."
- Yes (same as saying yes the first time)
- (Shows how to catch Pokémon) "That's how you do it. If you weaken them first, Pokémon are easier to catch."
- If talked to again
- "Pokémon hide in the grass. Who knows when they'll pop out..."

Trivia
- He, the old man, and Primo are the only NPCs to receive a back sprite but not a front one.
- In the German version of Crystal, if both the player's party and the current PC Box are full, the player will receive a large amount of money from the dude. If done so on the Virtual Console release, the tutorial will freeze the game.
