Description | This friendly Pokémon Professor from Lumiose City in Kalos is researching the mysteries of Mega Evolution. His hobby is sampling food from cafés while walking around town. |
Professor Sycamore (Japanese: プラターヌ Platane) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series. He forms a sync pair with Xerneas. This sync pair was first made available on February 11, 2021. The pair's potential can be upgraded to 6★ EX from January 12, 2023, which unlocks Professor Sycamore's EX style. However, unlike most sync pairs, this pair cannot be upgraded with Champion Spirits - only Custom Legendary Spirits from the villain event Battle! Friends from Kalos can be used.
Professor Sycamore also forms a sync pair with his Bulbasaur. This pair can be obtained by reaching Friendship Level 100 with Professor Sycamore in the Trainer Lodge. This pair could be raised to 6★ EX beginning on March 29, 2023, though this pair lacks an EX style.
Professor Sycamore in his Holiday 2023 attire forms a sync pair with his Gogoat. This pair can be obtained through a Seasonal sync pair scout beginning on December 14, 2023. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX since it first released.
Xerneas
Raising this sync pair to 6★ EX will unlock Song Key 06007, which allows "Battle! (Professor Sycamore) (Pokémon Masters EX Version)" to be played in the Jukebox.

Trivia
- Professor Sycamore & Xerneas are the only sync pair obtained through Legendary Adventures that level up at the same rate as other sync pairs; all other Legendary Adventures sync pairs have a much slower leveling rate.
- All versions of Professor Sycamore use special voice-over lines upon entering a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon) and victory with them. Those Trainers include Calem, Serena, Shauna, Tierno, Lysandre, and Cynthia.
- In his holiday outfit, Professor Sycamore's full name is Sycamore (Holiday 2023), despite his dialogue boxes being labeled Professor Sycamore. This is most likely due to size constraints on menus and other UI elements.
- Professor Sycamore & Gogoat are the first sync pair to be able to raise a sync pair's type rebuff, despite being added more than a year after the mechanic was introduced.
Origin
Professor Sycamore's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon X and Y. Xerneas is a Legendary Pokémon that Sycamore is not seen owning in the core series games. His pairing with Xerneas, however, does parallel Lysandre's partner Yveltal, Xerneas's counterpart. Xerneas's Dex entry comes from Pokémon X.
Bulbasaur is a Pokémon that Professor Sycamore can gift to the player in Pokémon X and Y. He also uses it alongside the other Kanto first partner Pokémon to battle the player. Bulbasaur's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
While Professor Sycamore is not seen owning a Gogoat outside this game, he is seen sending out a Skiddo during the intro of Pokémon X and Y. It is also a common form of transportation in his hometown of Lumiose City through the Gogoat Shuttle service. Gogoat's Dex entry comes from Pokémon X.
