A Team Star Grunt (Japanese: スターだんのしたっぱ Star Gang Underling) is a type of Pokémon Trainer introduced in Generation IX. They are delinquent students of Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV who have joined Team Star, and their uniforms vary by game. Team Star Grunts generally gather in Squads, which each Squad's Grunts specializing in the same type as their Boss.

Pokémon Adventures
Team Star Grunts debuted in the Battle! Team Star, the Delinquents!!. At West Province (Area One), a pair of Grunts cornered Penny, hoping to recruit her into their ranks despite her repeated refusal. Having overheard the commotion, Violet stepped in to defend Penny and defeated the Grunts with his Fuecoco. The Grunts fled, promising to inform their boss of what happened.
In Raid! The Dark Crew Base!!, Violet and Arven were contacted and recruited by Cassiopeia, the mysterious mastermind behind Operation Starfall, a plan to force Team Star to disband by defeating each of its five bosses. Clavell happened to overhear this discussion and chose to also participate while disguised as a student named Clive.
Segin Squad
In Raid! The Dark Crew Base!!, Violet, Arven, and Clive traveled to the Segin Squad's Base to raid it. There, a pair of Grunts informed them about the Star Barrage. In the following chapter, Violet and Arven battled many Grunts in the Star Barrage, but only Violet managed to defeat the required number of Pokémon before the time limit expired. Afterward, Violet battled the Dark crew's boss, Giacomo, and won, forcing the Segin Squad to disband.

Murkrow was seen alongside a female Grunt guarding the entrance of Segin Squad's Base.

Schedar Squad
In Abduction! The Target is Miraidon!!, while traveling through East Province (Area One), Violet was attacked by several Grunts. Though he managed to win, the sheer number of opponents left his Pokémon too exhausted to continue fighting. In order to fool the Grunts, Violet donned a disguise by traveling to Levincia, changing his uniform, and having his hair styled at a salon.
In Charge! The Second Base!!, Violet, Nemona, and Clive raided the Schedar Squad's Base. Due to her status as a Champion-ranked Trainer, Nemona easily defeated the required number of Grunts in the Star Barrage much faster than Violet did. Despite this, Mela impatiently demanded the Grunts bring Violet to her, as he was the one who issued the challenge to begin with. Later, after Mela was defeated, the Grunts worried that they would be forced to leave the base and return home. In an act of kindness, Violet purchased the land the base was built on, allowing the Grunts to stay as long as they wished.
In PASV17, Clive interrogated some Grunts, who informed him that most members of Team Star joined to escape being mocked and bullied at school. They also explained that Team Star's recent, more aggressive behavior, was due to people who joined purely to be part of a strong organization.
Later, one of the Grunts took residence at the Caph Squad's Base, where she informed Eri about the other Grunts' coup.
Pokémon
Rellor was used by a male Grunt to battle Violet in an attempt to dissuade him from raiding the Schedar Squad's Base, but it was quickly defeated by Violet's Crocalor.

Bramblin was used by a male Grunt to battle Violet in an attempt to dissuade him from raiding the Schedar Squad's Base, but it was quickly defeated by Violet's Nymble.

A male Grunt from the Navi Squad appeared in Battle! Team Star, the Delinquents!!. He and another Grunt tried recruiting Penny into Team Star. They were defeated by Violet and forced to run away. In Skillful! The Mysterious Treasure Hunter!!, the male Grunt and several others were seen in a flashback to previous moment where they tried getting Penny to join. This time, it was Scarlet who defeated them.
In PASV17, some Grunts had a meeting at the Treasure Eatery, unaware that Penny was also there listening in. They discussed how both the Dark and Fire crews had already been defeated. Concerned that if Team Star lost another crew, people would stop fearing them, the Grunts decided to raid Team Star themselves and take it over. Upon hearing this, Penny immediately fled, only for the Grunts to surround her once they realized she was eavesdropping. Before they could do something to silence Penny, Larry appeared to return a Rotom Phone Penny had left behind. The Grunts tried attacking Larry, but were easily defeated, giving Penny the opportunity to escape.
Later, one of the Grunts took residence at the Caph Squad's Base, where she informed Eri about the other Grunts' coup.

Yungoos was used by a male Grunt to battle Violet. Despite teaming up with the female Grunt's Shroodle, it was eventually defeated by Violet's Fuecoco.
Yungoos's only known move is Super Fang.

Caph Squad
Two Caph Squad Grunts named Tonko and Patra were first seen keeping an eye on Penny after she had been kidnapped and held prisoner. Unbeknownst to them, the person they captured was actually Scarlet, who had disguised herself as Penny and feigned weakness in order to infiltrate the Caph Squad's Base.
Later, the rebellious members of the group launched an attack on the base in order to defeat Eri and take over Team Star. They and members of the Ruchbah Squad led a simultaneous attack on their respective bases under the belief that if Violet tried to perform a raid at that moment, he'd only be able to take down one of them. To their shock and confusion, Violet somehow appeared in both the Caph and Ruchbah bases at the exact same time. In reality, Scarlet disguised herself as Violet while the real Violet challenged the Ruchbah base. When Eri told the Grunts she would fight to protect their home, some of the rebellious Grunts accepted that the coup failed and chose to follow Eri instead.

Ruchbah Squad
The Ruchbah Squad were first seen launching an attack on the Ruchbah Squad's Base in order to defeat Ortega and take over Team Star. They and members of the Caph Squad led a simultaneous attack on their respective bases under the belief that if Violet tried to perform a raid at that moment, he'd only be able to take down one of them. The Grunts attacked Ortega and cornered him inside a nearby lighthouse, but his skill as a Trainer meant he was far too powerful for them to actually defeat.
Refusing to back down, the Grunts stated that if Team Star kept losing their bases to Violet's raid, then the entire group's reputation as something to be feared would be tarnished. Ortega stated he would be fine with stepping down as squad boss, but only on the condition that he'd be allowed to take his belongings with him. The Grunts accepted these terms, but to their confusion, Ortega called down a construction crew, which quickly began stripping the base clean. Ortega noted the materials used to build the area all belonged to him, meaning if the Grunts wanted to make a new Team Star that wouldn't be looked down on, they'd have to do it themselves.
Defeated, the rebellious Grunts gave up and left without a fight. The loyal Grunts who stayed behind became worried, as they no longer had a place to stay. Ortega clarified that he never truly intended on stepping down and had the construction crew stop their work. He assured the Grunts that the base would always be their home.

A Mimikyu, Marill, Florges, Wigglytuff, Jigglypuff, Kirlia, Fidough, Azumarill, Gardevoir, and Tinkatuff were among some of the Pokémon used by Grunts who attempted to launch a coup against Ortega. A Tinkaton, Fidough, Dachsbun, Morgrem, Florges, Azumarill, Florges, and Tinkatuff, were used to face Nemona in a Star Barrage.

Team Star Grunt was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the Japanese Scarlet ex expansion and the English Scarlet & Violet expansion, with artwork by nagimiso. An ultra rare version of the card with artwork by the same illustrator was also released in these sets. Both prints feature a male and female Team Star Grunt as they appear in Pokémon Scarlet. The card lets the player put an Energy card attached to their opponent's Active Pokémon on top of the opponent's deck.
