Scald (Japanese: ねっとう Boiling Water) is a damage-dealing Water-type move introduced in Generation V. It has been TM55 since Generation V.
Effect
Generation V
Scald inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of causing a burn. Upon execution, Scald will thaw the user if frozen, regardless of the success of the move. This means that Scald thaws the user even if the move misses or is rendered useless by Detect, Protect, Storm Drain, or Water Absorb.
Generation VI
Scald now thaws a frozen target if it hits and deals damage.

Trivia
- Scald is one of two non-Fire-type moves (along with Steam Eruption) that thaws out frozen Pokémon it is used against. Both moves will also thaw the user.
- The only dual Water-type Pokémon that cannot learn Scald are part Ice-type.
- Prior to the release of Pokémon X and Y, a banner at Summer 2013 World Hobby Fair showed Lapras using Scald. However, Lapras cannot learn Scald in the final release of the game.
